coral bay week 1

Not a lot to report on the fishing front. Weather has been breezy to say the least and today was the first day we could get out into deep water. Fished 90m and managed some good Goldband to 5 kgs and some reasonable reds. We also picked up some very welcome pearl perch. Fish for dinner tonight. Ill put some pics up later as I have to transfer from Iphone to tablet. Weather looking very good over the next couple of days so time to make hay while the sun shines cos it gets windy again Monday onwards. More to follow later.

cheers

just had to post this one. Eldest boy blooded his new venom and talica on a stonker red

North West Trip Report

Hi all, I have been a member of the site for quite a while now and though it was about time I posted a report from one of my recent trips up north with a mate.

We left Perth in the early hours of Monday Morning with hope to get up to Quobba in the early afternoon for an afternoon fish. We arrived at around 2:30 and were greated with a high swell which wasnt ideal as we had hoped to spin for a few days before heading further north.

We headed straight to Camp Rock and after about 20min of collecting crabs for bait we were fishing with the hope of a nice Baldie for the table. After being busted off by something large I managed to land a nice Baldie which was quickly dispatched to the fridge.

We continued to fish up to sunset being busted off a number of times by some larger models.

We woke the next morning to a 5m swell which made fishing almost impossible so we made a decision to head further north. We headed towards Coral Bay and ended up going into Waroora Station to stay the night and have a fish in the morning. We managed a decent Spangled Emperor a few small Trevally and a massive Buff bream which my freind foul hooked in the side, it was fair to say we were just slightly dissapointed when he landed it as we had hoped for a more prized fish!

That afternoon we headed up to Coral Bay where we were able to get a spot on a freinds boat which was great. we headed out the north passage and had a troll for a while and had no luck so we decided to go inside the reef to about 4m of water and have a go with the light rods and the plastics.

We managed a few small Spangos in the first half hour and then something larger took my 3 inch paddeltail plastic and went for a serious run which had us all calling it to be a turtle. After about a 20 minute fight a massive Chinaman Fish revealed itself. After 20 minutes of tense times with the net we managed to land it. I didnt get a measurement but it would have been upwards of 15kg and on 15lb braid I was pretty exited to say the least.

That night we headed up to Exmouth and spend the next 5 days there. With the lack of baitfish close to shore the fishing was tough and we struggled with the Queenies ect but we had some good luck each night at Mildura Wreck on the Spangled Emperor and Yellow tailed Emperor on the low tide in the evening.

One morning we waked across the road from the caravan park and fished Hunters and I managed to land this nice Spangled Emperor which pulled some string!

After the 5 days that we spent in Exmouth we decided to head out on a charter down in Coral Bay so we packed up and spent a couple of nights at the carvan park dopwn there. The day before the charter we again went out in the boat and ended up with 18 Squid in about an hour which made for some great times.

Our last day in coral bay ws spent on the Mahi Mahi 3, we headed out of the south passage into 100m of water and as soon as we got out there everyone was hooking up. Plenty of Reds and Goldband were landed at that spot leaving everyone with smiles from ear to ear. We then headed out to 150m in search of some Bigger Goldband and the spot didnt dissapoint! The sounder lit up and I couldnt get the bait in the water quick enough.

Both me and my freind got out limit of goldband and other tasty fish which was awesome and someone even managed to land a Marlin on the way back in!

Couple of Nice Goldies.

Marlin Shot.

Another shot of the Marlin Boat Side.

All in All fantastic trip and we headed back to Perth and the cold gloomy weather that day.

Thanks for reading!

Broome Jetty Queenies

was up in broome for my missus 30th bday over the weekend. I was sternly told before we left that 'this is not a fishing trip', however managed to get a small amount of fishing in around her birthday festivities.

headed out on the jetty and the queenies were absolutely everywhere... pretty much everyone was pulling them up- most were small approx 2kg skinnies but a few larger 5+kg models were caught. I got a couple on plastics, larger sinking skirts where also doing the damage casted along the side of the jetty and retrieved / jigged with a bit of pace. Seeing as nothing else was on the bite a lot of crew were keeping them to eat..... they are ok fresh but nothing to speak of.

here's a quick video of some of the action- apologies for the quality (note my hand in the way from time to time- i didnt want to drop my phone in the drink!

another bloke was a bit too slow reeling a fish in and one of the resident gropers / cod had a good feed.

Lano Wrap up.

I realized I forgot to finish our Lano report. So the first half was about a month or so ago and we finally got out to the Key Biscayne and although there were no big Sambos around I managed to finally get a decent Dhu on a jig !! The skippy were going nuts as well and we bagged out, they were even smashing 300g jigs ! Here's a couple more photos plus a we bonus laugh when my rod went off whilst I was gearing up for blast on my mates MX bike ! Cheers

Jurien Bay Report

Just been up in Jurien for the last week.

During the day blowies were about all that was happening with the odd whiting and tiny pinky biting.

The marina as per usual was swamped with blowies and a few small flatties.

Fished the jetty late every night, only ended up landing a few rays, hooked a few very large unstoppables (not sure what they were but thinking shovelnose or sharks) on a mixture of live herring and yakkas which were more than plentiful, and also got haunted by the elusive mulloway with a couple good hookups called with headshakes etc. which unfortunately didnt stick.

Was a good week overall, just wish we landed a couple good fish.

Cheers

Spot the Ocea Jigger between the Sambos

RIP my favourite PE3 combo (Ocea Jigger NR1500PG and Hearty Rise 5ft 8 rod) which just met a watery demise.......the one and only design flaw with the Ocea Jigger, the handle turning by itself and engaging the gears, resulted in the jig coming to an abrupt stop after casting forward of the boat, ripping my favourite outfit from my hands........had it not been for the great white lurking below that had just nabbed a sambo I may have jumped in.........

Happier memories from last year......

RIP my little friend.

The Mighty Bucaneer Hori falls video added!

For the last 8 days i have been lucky enough to have been at the Bucaneer Archipeligo off Derby with 3 mates.

What can i say what a amazing place, the pictures and videos i have do not do it justice, ( more to follow when i go through them)

We went from fishing 40m deep water to flicking at cliff faces to trolling in mangroves to snorkelling in pristine untouched coral to swimming in freshwater waterfalls withing a few kms of each other. Amazing scenery I did a snorkel in the middle of a mangrove and it was like being in a large aquarium. The tides were huge and lucky to be with a mate that has done it a few times in his boat. Pretty amazing to to whirpool drops in the middle of deep water. Would be a pretty dangerous trip to unexperinced people.

The fishing was amazing but very hard at the same time. Tides and getting fish away from the rocks was the biggest factor. I lost a few good fish but landed more fish than ever before mainly on light gear. Goldens, gts, queenies, jacks, tarpon, fingermark, bluebone, tuna, estuary cod, qld groper, bream, salmon, mackies, trout and a few more.

We spent 7 nights sleeping on the boat and we still had ice the day we got home. We went as far as Horizontal waterfalls and then turned around and came home. The weather was a bit rough at times but there was always a island to tuck behind.

Can't wait to do more offshore trips !

A video of Hori falls, was Low tide but you can still see the awesome power:

Salmon still around

G'day

Just a quick report.

I hadn't been out fishing in a boat for a little while, me and a mate packed up his tinny and headed out to try find some inshore snapper. Like everyone knows, fishing is never predictable. We set the anchor and only managed an undersized snapper and a couple nice skippy as well as a couple unstoppables on the light gear; most likely sambos.

My mate then spotted a few birds dive bombing in the distance, not a massive amount of birds but they were definitely interested in something. Headed over there and manged to wrangle one nice sized bonito trolling around the birds. The school quickly disappeared though. Thinking what would be our next move I noticed a small school of fish in a wave, of course my mate didn't beleive me. So we both had a cast, I landed a nice salmon and my mate some how pulled a nice skippy out of a school of salmon.

Eventually found the birds again, this time it was more sizeable, with a huge school of salmon boiling up the surface pretty hard. I got the 1.5-3kg rod out with my ci4 2500 with 8lb braid and had some fun. Never seen a reel scream so hard, great fun, all my salmon were caught on a Maria stickbait. The school went missing so we moved onto fishing a near by reef for some herring on lures, then called it a day.

The numbers in the school was comparable to 4-6weeks ago, but the size of the fish was generally smaller. Didn't manage any snapper, but still had a great morning on the water... and good to see the salmon are still kicking around.

cracker of a day goes sour

had the oppurtunity to sneak out for a fish from mindarie today, cant believe i almost accepted the weather forcast and not go. started of around 9am in the shallows just messing about with plastics and found some good ground north. well it didnt take long up came a blackass 35cm released and a couple of whitting.

i hadnt planned on going out deep but i was keen once on the water, shot out to a couple of my spots for a placcy bash, good idea i reckon. i released 4 undersize dhuies 1 sized, 3 sized snapper and a sambo that surpassed my 120cm brag mat. kept 2 snapper one at 62cm and the other at 75cm, the 75cm snapper was missing half his tale so it debatable the actual size.

impressive ride home too

on a sour note my new favourite placcy combo thought it could swim and is now a the bottom of the indian ocean courtesy of the sea anchor rope . broke my knife and didnt raise the outboard leaving ramp  oh well s@#t happens still breathing and drinking beer

big cheers to the lad that yelled out to me about my outboard before any damage was done

heres a few picks i managed but as iam normally a solo fisher these pics are hard to get good.

thats the combo in the snapper pic

Winter Metro Tailor

Went out early afternoon today NOR for a couple hours with Matt. Trolled in the wash behind an inshore reef for a total of ~7 hookups but only 3 (tailor) landed going 43, 45 and 49cm.

Also got a couple hours of footage only to have it somehow become corrupted after over 4 hours of editing

Other than a treble through my finger nail not much else to report

Cheers

south coast jigging

Went out on saturday with mates Ryan and Charlie for a jig. the mission for the day was to just take jigs with no bait allowed and target sambos or kingys a few km ofshore. the plan worked sort of, we got both kings and sambos but also ended up with a big bag of demersals and the release weight working overtime to drop fish back down. fished depths from 30-70m and would of been lucky to be 6km from the boat launch spot.

tally for the day all on jigs was 20-30 rat kingys, 5 rat sambos, 1 dhuie, 2 nannys, 1 big queeny, 3 harlequin fish, 10 or so breaksea cod, well over 50 skippy, a few bonito, 1 huge bronzie that we got boatside after having a sambo sharked, heaps of random reef fish and a few absolute smokings thown in to the mix. we all used pe2 setups for the day with myself and ryan running jigging master pe2 overhead setups and charlie on spin. jigs we used where mostly FCL SLZ's, Duel allie flash, current zeek and peggy, damiki backdrops and a few others

Lastnight north mole

Did anyone brave the hail n rain lastnight at the mole. If so how did ya go?

sharkbay/peron report

did a quick 3 dayer up to shark bay with the boys last weekend came back with a freezer full of fish, the pinkies are rampant up there at the moment.

went out with mack attack on the first day and all caught our bag even though the weather was crap. bagged out on pinkies in 6 - 10 metres of ater placcies were dynamite

also got a few mulloway, and a nice golden trev about 12kg on 15 lb line

spent a night up at bottle bay which is just another magic place on the WA coast line (apart from the bloody sand flies which we are all still suffering from) got out in the tinny and bagged out on pinkies again along with some smallish blackies, flag and mulloway, plenty of good ground around the tip of peron if your heading up that way sudden drop offs 6 - 14 metres,

weirdest drifting i have ever experienced one drift we wouldnt move at all the next drift in the same spot we would drift at 3 knots go back again and we would drift in the opposite direction all together.

after returning in the tinny we leanrt one of the old boys had put out a live whiting on the beach and turned his back only to see the rod skipping  across the surface never to be seen again, that provided plenty of ribbing and laughs.

the last morning we caught a bucketfull of yellow fin whiting which are the best eating of all if you ask me

cheers to the caretaker for helping us out with a loaf of bread even if it did cost a couple of pinkie fillets haha.

all in all it was just good to getaway with no kids and wives in tow shame it wasnt longer

sorry about te pics too busy fihsing or drinking most of the time

Hunting Silver (aka the elusive Sea Bass)

During my last 6 months in the UK, I've become a fairly avid reader of the various UK fishing forums.

During the time I've been reading them, I've heard time and time again stories of the hard fighting (and delicious) silver fish known as the Sea Bass.

Because of that, when a friend Maurice and his brother Stephan who I met through my business Adventure Angler invited me to come and fish for Sea Bass on their boat in Rotterdam, it didn't take me too long to say yes! I've heard that these fish love to hit lures, including surface lures, and I couldn't wait to get out and have a go at them.

On Friday night I flew to Rotterdam where we made some last minute preparations before setting our alarms super early (or was it so early it was still late?!) and went down to the marina. After 30 minutes or so of steaming we were at the spot, and the first casts were made. Because Rotterdam is a built up area, sometimes you are fishing around a lot of man made structure. This was the case with our first spot - fishing under a large concrete platform. It took me a little while to get my eye in to cast under these low platforms but we got there in the end - albeit we did lose one Jackson Pintail along the way, when it exploded after my questionable cast sent it sailing into the concrete :-(

We then went out near some channel markers and switched to soft baits, after which Maurice landed a couple of nice bass in quick succession.

Throughout the day we tried a number of locations and caught fish on a range of different lures including various diving minnows and soft baits. We did put in some casts with the surface sticks also, but on this day they were not behaving on the top water.

After we had finished with the Sea Bass for the day, we started heading back for the dock when Maurice made the call to try for some Snoek Bass (aka Walleye) in the fresh water parts of the river. We saw some nice marks on the sounder, and it didn't take long for Stephan to land a nice one on soft plastic.

On the second day we did much of the same, but an even earlier start. Thankfully though, it was all worth it. Stephen had landed one or two bass first up, but then I got a really nice hit on a soft plastic. The fish put up a solid fight, and I ended up landing the largest bass for the trip - which weighed in at a little over 7 pounds. A good result for my first tour!

After that we thought we'd try a quick jig. Stephan managed to jig two crabs in a row. I have never seen this before, but the jigs were in their mouths - not foul hooked. So was pretty impressive! Then he jigged a Pollock and Maurice and I jigged a junior sized cod each (another first for me), before we decided to return to the bass.

We then fished on and it went quiet for a while, but then towards the end of our day had a great session with most drifts resulting in a hit or two on diving minnows and plenty of nice bass landed included a double header.

All in all it was a really fun trip. Got to meet some new fishing addicts, catch 2 new species, and try out some new gear. Even better, there's been an invite to come and catch the bigger bass that run in September / October - so stay tuned :-)

A range of gear used, including:
Temple Reef Stealth STK 72M
Jigging Master Evolution Titanium 150gr
Yamaga Blanks Blue Sniper 77/3
Stella 5000, Twinpower 5000, Stradic 3000, Ocea Jigger 1500NR

My 6 month in 2014 metro efforts

G'day guys just thought I would post a little bit of a 6 month perth metro report.
January- Well I still hadn't owned the boat a year yet after buying it late February 2013, but already having clocked up 110 hours, it was getting well used to say the least. I got out for 5 metro trips in Jan. Spent quite some time teaching my bro n the old man plus some mates the basics on jigging for demersals, as I was sick of messy bait users on every trip! There were a hell of a lot of small 420-490mm dhufish around this time of year but we were struggling to find to many good ones. There were quite a few nice size blackass around too, and as aggressive as always. With the temps soaring on the land there were a few hours put on the clock just sipping coldies and trolling the coast, the bait had not quite pushed inshore at this time of year and hence results were slow, I was noticing a lot of bait starting to stack up further of the coast in over 30m. My best day came in mid January. We left hillarys at 5am, plan was to head to the north of rotto and look for the bait and hopefully jig some predators off it. We motored over an area in the 40s on the way to another mark and bang the sounder lit up with bait and some better fish deeper. We stopped, did a drift, landed a double of 8-9kg sambos, then another drift, another double hookup, one fish buried the angler on the bottom, the other got taken by a large shark. Re tie rigs, sound around find the fish again, do our drop n another double of sambos, I still hadn't hooked up and I'm thinking what the hell is going on!? The other boys were on as soon as we hit the edge of the school each time. In frustration I let my jig hit the bottom and ripped it straight up as quik as I could, I was pretty stoked 10 mins later with a 12 kg yellowfin hitting the deck. My first metro and on jig, christened the new N-S too. It was a great day with another tuna hooked n dropped (by me) and a variety of dhuies and sambos for the day. Ended up with 21 undersized dhuies throughout January and only 2 size!

February- Only managed the 4 trips in Feb. Well much like January the warmer currents were flowing from the north and with it some interesting sightings and catches around perth were being reported. There was bait just everywhere off the coast n all the marks were lighting up every time we visited them, some times frustrating as often it didn't end in fish, just lit up sounder screens and lots and lots of bait. By late Feb the back of the 3 mile from hillarys to staggies was teaming with bait and along with it the birds, all the signs were good, I am quietly praying for my first metro mack.We had a ball catching the watsons leaping bonito on light gear and small divers, and picked up some small yellowtail kings. No mackerel. With one more day out up my sleeve for February, I decided on a hunt around on the first bank in 31-38m, found some nice ground and picked up a 60cm dhu on jig, marked up a lot of new stuff but got no more fish. By now I'm convinced that there is too much bait, it's like the fish had really shut down to the jigs in February, could the amount of bait have been responsible in some way? We trolled in for 8 miles on the way home before the rod went off, good first run, I was sure I had my mack, but after a short fight and a final dive under the boat I got colour, my spaniard had morphed into a sambo! Bugger! Trolled the rest of the way home for no more results. My mate did manage a nice 12kg macky on the jig in February but it happened on a day out with my cousin and his boat. All in all February was very hard work I found on the demersals and perhaps should have spent the time to try something else.

March- With all the bait off the coast I decided to take advantage very early in March and do my first solo mission with the tub to do some bait collecting. The water was quite dirty on this day so I continued south past some of my squid grounds and towards the shipping channel, I found water to 24.8c and with it the bait, sabiki jigs are great and in no time I had my bait freezer full for most of March. Spent the next day trolling the south side of rottnest at sunrise, conditions were unbelievable, glass off. Too good as it turned out, no fish, disappointing because again all the signs looked good with water of 23.8, plenty of bait and a few birds, plus the first light and early start. Gave up trolling by 11 and headed west of rotto too a few marks, had a drift here and there but all was very quiet except for a healthy blackass to my bro on the bait outfit. Next trip out was a squid bash which was slow but steady and resulted in 10 good sized squid with a few tubes going over 300mm. The herring turned up whilst we were squidding so on went a couple of metal slices rigged with singles and we had some fun mostly catch n release but kept a couple each in the live bait tank so we could slow troll them behind the reef, or set some live baits through the afternoon. We tried these options till late arvo early evening but still I couldn't entice my first metro mack! The next and last trip for March was just a short, late arvo squid on the high tide which resulted with 7 nice squid.

April- By late march and into April there was a lot of weed washed into the metro area which made trolling very tedious. I managed 6 trips in April, most late April, doing my usual favourites. The squid were a no show due to some big swells stirring the water up and making it very dirty. So next trip I headed to some ground I had off Ocean reef in about 38m, got a few black bums in one hole, but decided to move and search for new areas when my mate jigged up a nor west blowie. The sounder found something that looked promising and 2 drifts later a slow day had all turned around. We bagged out with a nice little dhuie and pinkie to add to the 2 blackass, also picked up a good kg. Home by 2.30. Next trip was another successful one. Launched ocean reef n went to some new ground about 16 mile out, first drift resulted in two small dhus, 58 and 55cm, the rest of the day was spent sounding new areas, we picked up 2 good black bums to finish the bag and a nice big cuttlefish for a bonus. In late April we had some weather and swell stir things up a bit, snapper was the go as soon as the opportunity came. With a high tide in the early morn, light winds but still a fair bit of swell, we headed to our stomping ground and set the burley trail. Was a little slow at first with some big skippy showing up first and a little while later the pinkies, we ended up with some nice fish to 75cm. Also picked up a little gummy for our efforts.

May- Well we had had a few days of clear weather between my last trip out in April and into early May. I was a bit sceptical as to whether or not the snapper would still be in close, but decided to give it a go. By 11 it was clear they were not going to show up. We pulled anchor and as we did we noticed some disturbance on the surface, bait. I had 2 casting rods ready with stick baits rigged. Next minute the surface exploded with salmon, and a couple of casts were fired out for a solid double hookup. Two nice fish hit the deck, around the 5kg mark. After releasing the fish and looking around again for any commotion I fired a blind cast out the back of the boat, the bait and salmon had dived at this point. I let the stick bait slowly sink for about 20 seconds before starting a slowish twitch and retrieve. I got a hook up almost instantly but the fish felt different to the salmon. At first he swam straight to the back of the boat and then he took off on a run that left me with 20m of backing. My mate had fired a cast out too and as I asked him to start the boat and chase my fish he starts ripping the lure in, all of a sudden with a big flash of electric blue his lure is engulfed by another big fish. His fight lasted 3-4 mins before teeth found his leader. Luckily I just managed to get the fish turned on my 20lb outfit (certate 2500 did the job,) and 10 mins later I was the happiest bloke on the planet with a beautiful Spanish mackerel lying on the deck. To land him on such light tackle with no wire after working for one for months made it so much more satisfying. He bottomed my scales out at 20kg, wouldn't have been too much over but it was a solid fish, couldn't have been more stoked. My next day out on was a trip over to rotto trolling and casting the reef systems on the south side and west end. We saw some other guys fishing a similar style but no one could find the salmon, which is why we were there. The day was spent mainly catch n release on herring. Fortunately the derby was on in the arvo so the quokka arms was our next stop seen as the fishing wasn't going to light up. Only managed 2 more trips out in May one was spent with lures hanging out the back whilst marking ground off ocean reef and mindarie. No fish on this day, but plenty of ground being mapped for future trips. The last was a late arvo squidding session, conditions were good with clean water and a big high tide, we managed 12, which I was pleased with because often with a sou westerly wind blowing I have been left disappointed on the squid.

June- This ended up being a quiet month for me due to an injury. I managed 1 trip early on with a day off two rocks. Beautiful conditions but the slowest day I have ever had up there. We boated just 2 undersized dhus, 1 little pinky and a few horrible nor westers. Disappointing after waiting so long to get up there.

Looking forward to the next 6 months now. Tight lines, cheers for reading.

Beginners luck running low?

Itching for a fish all weekend, I ummed and ahhh'd about heading out today to have another go. With the forecast for 15kn+ but seabreeze showing lower numbers, a peek at the beach cams showed not much surf so thought I would give it a crack. It is about 40 mins from my place to the marina so I try to be sure it is workable for making the trip. I arrived about 2:20 and started getting the fishing machine ready as the conditions looked great. As stated before, the boat isn't a glamour at the moment, but it floats and carries my rods!

Once underway the conditions were excellent with a variable NE to NNE wind around 10 knots and dropping so the cruise out was uneventful and I headed for the spot I found last time. I didn't try anything new today as I had limited time to make sure I was back and tied up before dark. With the cloud cover it was already looking pretty dark as it was! Still no sounder fitted yet either. In case you're wondering, yes that is the anchor rope. After once having to traverse to the bow to free a stuck rope, I now feed the rope out through the cabin so I can keep it from bunching up when the winch is pulling it up. I can also help pull it up if it is a bit snagged. The anchor locker is a joke for a boat this size, but that's a project for another day.

Today was a day to try the soft plastic everyone said I should throw out while bait fishing. I rigged up a 5" Nuclear Chicken on a 5/0 Owner jig head. I think the 5/0 would have been better with the 7" as it seemed a bit big for the 5". Anyway, I rigged an octopus skirt to the top to try and hide the hook a bit as well. So with the anchor set, the berley pot soaking here goes nothing - first drop, nibble nibble and I think I'm a genius (well, your ideas and methods from this site made me a genius)! Up pops a small Dhu but it seemed the method got the result. I was stoked. Measure (I remembered this time), photo and back in the drink to grow up a bit.

A couple of small pinks on the bait also made for entertainment (I know I should post photos of bigger fish but this was the best I could do today!! ha ha). They all swam away well which is a benefit of fishing the shallow water I guess.

On the way back in the starboard engine suffered some pretty bad cavitation. Hopefully just a product of the dirty hull that is in desperate need of some antifoul. The boat will come out of the water soon for some rebuilt stern drives and transom assemblies and some rework of a few things with the layout. I need a bit more fishing space! Hope you don't mind my blathering with a report about small fish - I just thought it right to report back and hopefully someone else can try what I have learned. Hopefully the beginners luck hasn't run out completely with just a few small fish today.

Fishing Video !!! Monster 4KG Catch Hampala Barb Sebarau (Jungle Perch) Wild Fishing Thailand- BKKGUY

Hampala is a genus of ray-finned fish in the Cyprinidae family found in South-East Asia.
The common name frequently use is Sebarau or jungle perch.

IGFA World Record for Hampala is 6.5KG, landed in malaysia.

My recent dam fishing trip last week, I managed to land a surprise whoppy 4KG.

The fights just as strong as toman.
Maybe due to its fork tail , it initial run is equally strong.

Sebarau (jungle perch) was known to have crushed angler's treble hooks due to it strong jaws.

Let me continue my catch report.......

It was a bright and sunny thursday, I managed to convince my little girl Catherine to follow us (My wife- Bkklady and myself) for 1 day of scenery fishing trip to teh nearyby dam .

The main target for this wild fishing trip is to target the sebarau or the common name as jungle perch.

Sebarau fishing is seasonal. The best period is from late dec to july.
As from jun to july period, these fishes are waiting to swim upstream to lay their eggs thus the chances of concentration of big fishes in 1 spot are higher.

Here the full actions packed video clip of this wild sebarau fishing trip.

Hope you guys enjoys my youtube clip.

Fishing in Chiang Mai- Mekong Catfish

Hi Guys I haven't posted a report for a while, probably because I've had nothing to report about but I'm here in Chiang Mai on a family holiday and the missus let me go on a day’s fishing so I thought I'd show you all what it was like

Now I know fishing at a well stocked lake isn't really sporting but none the less I had such a great day that I had to post this report for anybody planning to come to Chiang Mai so they know what is available.

So here are the pics, only Mekong catfish caught, overall probably caught 30+ fish, smallest about 5 kg biggest about 40kg. And yes each pic is a different fish.

Enjoy

Trout report - North Island NZ.

All,

well i had a pretty epic weekend just gone on the trout

day 1: undisclosed location , for all that you know the most i will say its in the king country.

Headed to my favourite patch of water in a paticular area solo and in pooring rain.....i roughly walk a stretch of 4 kms over a day fishing and proceeded to land 9 rainbows and 3 browns to 6 pound. All on nymph. it seems each pool is starting to stock up with fish for spawning season on this paticualy system. with one pool highlighting 7 fish from it.

Day 2 again undisclosed location and i wont even give a hint.

This is my favourite stretch of water and if i fish the main system it where i got my 2 trohpies 2 years ago (mind you on the same day)....i decided to check out a spawning stream running into this system from higher up in the mountains. As this systems closes for 3 months for that paticualr reason.

and unfortantely mother nature played its part today with some awsome experieinces albiet only 4 fish landed.... here we go. fish generally wont get smaller then 7 pound in this area and its a very very secret area. and while heading up stream i had ladned a couple 7 pound fish in very poor condition due to breeding then all of a sudden standing at the back fo this pool, these 2 MONSTER BROWNS (im talking 12 +) just cruised up, one actuelly went so close to my legs (so much for senting)  i could of stepped on it. i watched them cruise deep into a pool and started throwing numerious flys at them nothing.....then they both moove up into about 7 inches water doing there thing...they did not want a bar of any fly till i foul hooked one, and it took me straight to a log. concentrations levels were at a all time low. Then on the same stretch of water a 10+ pound rainbow comes out and just chills there, like its feeding but it wasnt. again i threw numerous nymphs on these guys and nothing. ended up getting a different brown of about 7 pound.

i mooved up the stretch the same sets of shallows less then 7 inches deeps to come across another breeding pair of browns. One would of gone about 8 and the other 11. at one stage the fins of the larger male were out of the water as it did its thing on the eggs.....again throwing numerous nymphs to try and piss it off enough that it would take one and nothing. 10 mins later standing in that same positions the pair deceided to start mooving towards me, and litrally within seconds i had the female , one US size 12 boot away from and the male another....i was gobsmacked i could of picked the girl up by the tail! then all of a sudden one of the browns from the lower stretch of the shallow decided to pop on up get in between the pair and they started "argueing".......in the end the 12+ pround grabbed the other male by the tail and took him down stream to leave the girl up there by her self. at this stage she was so spooked by what had just happened she darted off under some grass....when the large brown did this his entire head plus the tail end of the other brown was hanging out of the water like he just got some pray for roguhly 5-7 m down into the deeper sections. i was gobsmacked as to what i had just seen, for all this time i thought they were eels doing it to the trout where in fact its trout doing it to trout. If any of you have dealt with spawning season here you pull some pretty poorly condtioned trout from all this spawning!!

over the day we couned 5 trohpies and numerous 8-10 pound fish. but today it was for me and mother nature had them doing what they do best and put on a pretty amazing show. Mind you this river never gets any more wider then 3-4 m wide and involves an hour of quad biking and a further hour of hiking down gorges to get there..

BRING ON OCTOBER 1!

photos to come pitty i didnt have my GOPRO!

Quick trip report

Just a quick trip report from Two Rocks a couple weeks ago before the recent bad run of weather. First time out from two rocks since the reopening of the boat ramp and first time out with my boat this year due to a hectic work schedule.

The girlfriend and I did an allnighter last Sunday, having finished work at 4am in the morning and getting to the two rocks ramp early in anticipation for an early bite and make the most of the predicted 6 knots with no swell. Unfortunately forecast was wrong and we were greeted with a sloppy start to the day, a fresh 15-20 knot easterly making it quite brisk and uncomfortable till 11am.

With no hesitation from all onboard we decided to stay in close and fish the 30-40s to test out the light gear in the hope of getting her onto her first WA dhufish. A few small undersize dhufish were accounted for and dropped back on the release weight in the morning, great to see such a healthy fishery. The only fish of significance to be a nice 6kg dhu on a smith meijuime jig from my brother, which was quickly dispatched on ice.

The wind swung from the north coming toward the afternoon, hence shut the fish down making Jana's chance at that dhu a bit more tricky. Decided to come in a bit closer to the coast which payed off. Dave again managed a nice keeper with a Breaksea on the same jig he was using in the morning.

Hit a nice showing on the sounder in 28m and Dave once again hooks onto a small sampsonfish bringing up with it a few of his mates. With this I tell Jana to jig her plastic up the water column a bit quicker to entice a seriola species on her 10lb outfit for a bit of fun. I manage to get onto a small model myself before Jana's rod comes up solid also.
With a small hard first run followed by a few head shakes it had us guessing whether she had a sampsonfish. After handling the light gear with impressive technique for a beginner, up popped another size dhufish to our suprise. Careful not to snap the scuffed up 30lb flourocarbon leader we manage to boat her first Dhufish, and on a plastic too. Smiles and hi fives all round. Can safely say she's got the fishing bug and now I have the impossible task of trying to find more time to take her out for a jig.

Great day had by all we decided to head back in by 3pm cruising at 30 knots on what turned out to be a glassy afternoon on the water with the sun shining on a successful first outing.

Thanks for reading.

River birds 23-6

View from the office window this morning. Birds working the water in front of Elizabeth Quay. Looks like maybe tailor and dolphins chasing the bait up. Sorry about the dodgy phone pic quality.
