went for a fish today off warnbro with one of my sons. not a bad day. noice pinky, sambo a few skippy, herring a seargant baker and a coupla rays to boot.

Headed down to Brockman dam midday Saturday to find a very empty dam. Looked around for a fishy looking area,pick out a spot and setup camp for the night. Sun was out and not a cloud in sight. (Ok maybe a couple)

No ski boats to destroy the serenity or make waves.Cracked me first beer and headed down to the waters edge and flicked a variety of lures and spinners around. My son had a few followers but not takers. After a few hours with no luck we changed tack and sent out a couple of baits, within no time at all my son got the first rainbow trout not size but it was a start.

More were to follow in a steady procession all about 200-250 mm, good to see some healthy fish but we wanted some size ones.

After I was nil, son 1 and cousin 2 it was time to step up. Like usual the banter had started, but i was after quality. Cousin is to far away from his rod when he gets a strike ah well I'll take that one but still under size.

Well time for another beer and a bit more patience then finally i get a good hit and I'm on, not much of a fight but in comes a size rainbow. Well bragging rights are mine.(well for now that is).

Not huge but nice and healthy. Fished till early evening with no more fish landed.                                                                                                      Time to sit around a warm fire, have a hearty feed and settle down for a chilly night. Woke up to a clear morning and time to have another shot. 3 small ones landed but that's it for the day.

Time to packup and head home. Another magic trip out in our picturesque country. Looking forward to another session in the near future.

hey all went out yesterday avo for a look anchored on our pinkie lump berleyed up pretty soon the kgs turned up nice to 50cm then hooked something big one short run line went slack then all hell broke loose mako came flying out of water gettin heaps of air but jumping towards the boat and in the semi light pretty freaky it just kept getting closer and higher finally got it boatside but what a buzz ,top avo sess and a first for me

We are heading to Nornalup & Walpole the first week of September. We have a little tinny with a 2HP motor, and we were hoping for a heads up on some bream or any fish action around that area please.

Went out early this morning in the hope of finding some inshore snapper. Got to our spot and water was green as but started the burley trail anyway.. Spent about 2 hours there for no reward so we decided to move closer in, a few hundred metres off the beach, to get some whiting (for bait). DIdnt take long for the whiting to come on the bite, they were all good sized 25-32cm so kept them for the table. Ended up with a good 15 or so..we drifted into some very random broken ground in the middle of sand.. Kept persisting with the whiting rigs and up came a bigger darker spottier whiting, woohoo! a King george in very unsuspecting ground, kept going and another 6 soon followed but lost plenty more due to the baitchasers straightening.. Biggest KG went 43cm, good size for a few hundred metres off the beach. Hopefully we have found a reliable spot for KG's especially with the demersal ban looming.

A few mates and I headed up past wedge last weekend and really enjoyed some land based fishing (outside the marine park).. After months and months of reading up and going through online posts we finally caught our first Mulloways.. Unfortunately they were pretty small but we caught a boot load of them all the same.. All up I think we caught about 9 Mulla between 45-60cm and returned them all.. couldn't seem to find thier big brother but maybe next time. Thanks heaps to anyone thats posted info on them in the past I'm sure it helped.. Anyone who's got any tips on how to catch bigger Mullaway feel free to share..

Managed to also catch a few skippy, wrasse and managed to hook some sort of shark, maybe 5ft, saw it thrashing around before it cut/snapped the line. We're definately beginners so were really happy with the day...   

Anyways, this is my first post.. be gentle

 Gday left sunday morn 6am from rocky arrived at first spot with plenty of fish showing on the sounder,first drift got a nice dhuie on a jig also a nice kgw.For the next hour or so caught another size dhuie few undersize snapper,dhus,skippy and blackarses then close to high tide deckie hooked up onto a good fish and up comes a blue groper never seen or caught one on boat before cool anyway back to jigging no hits so started pulling it up and a couple metres from the boat hooked up took off like a rocket thinking maybe spanish mackeral the way it run got it boatside think its a shark mackeral correct me if im wrong.Was a good days fishing for metro also seen small school of tuna busting up on the way in 35m trolled for bit but no hits.Cheers Nick

Finally got my first size dhuie after nearly 2 years of trying, didnt land my 1st until thursday... went out from hillarys on thursday turned out to be a really good day, a little bit of swell but very little wind. We hit a patch in about 27mtrs of water where we were catching skippy one after another so we kep a couple of the bigger ones (6 in total) and decided to sound around a little bit, found some more good ground then pulled my fist dhufish 48cm!! Nearly there but not quite, reeled him in slow and he looked ok but I still used my release weight to be sure... pulled up two more of his smaller buddys all in all a good day but still not my 1st size dhu.. So not one to give up I went out agian saturday this time the weather appeared to be better on seabreeze but it was alot rougher due to the winds until about lunch time. I went out with two boats, we left two rocks around 6am & headed out about 20Nm to direction bank... The other boys were all doing well dhuies, snapper, blackass and all I could manged was two monster flathead 55cm! I knew I must have drifted over sandy areas so we moved a bit and tried a new drift pattern... Late In the day just before packup my reel went off, I though this is it finally!!! but it was a North west blowie much to the amusement of my fellow fishers, I dropped again and bang this time a dhuie 67cm 4-5kgs.... Alot of time and effort went into getting this guy and finally my missus can stop giving me shit when I get home from fishing....

 Any news on where the flathead are atm?

I have a 4.2m center consol with a 30hp on it, im after some tips and spots if possible leaving from port kenedy ramp, looking for pinkies. i still have not had the pleaseure of pulling up a 50cm and i have sworn not buy any more gear till i do, so any help will be greatly appreciated. :)

Just watched footage yesterday of a mate staying in Cape range Nat park hooking up and bringing aboard a sail in a 4m inflatable ! He did it on his own and did bloody well to get some great footage . A few tense moments when he brings it on and then releasing it ,but he said it took off strong and no punctures ! Sorry can,t put up til he gets back 3-4 wks . Its bloody awesome !

Sat 18  weather forecast wasn't as forecast wind was suppose to die at 9.00 which messed up the out wide trip fishing  trip had to settle for closer in grounds 45 large sand whiting, 500 mm King George, 2x Breaksea, cuttlefish undersize Duhue { I pulled him up slow so was in really good shape to swim back)  600mm Samson fish swam back too. So it was no failure as fishing trips go....would have loved to go deep

Hey readers , up in Exi at the moment and went out with these guys ,they have only been operating a month or so .  They run a brand new 8m Leisure cat and only 4-5 guys .Fish , spear or what ever you want to do , I was lucky ,only guy booked but they were going out anyway , so got to make the call on what to do ! Choices choices !

Was a great day out . Got to troll first up for macks with 3 coming on board and the suprise of a good rankin trolling 20-30 m ,all in the first hr ! From there head for a bottom drop on some good ground , good fish , but as usual , sharks ruined it ! Made the call to go out to 100m mark , for goldband and assorted but was a bit quiet , but Mick the owner was onto it , move on to other spots in same depth . Did this the rest of day , ended up with a good haul of another rankin , plus goldband , pearl perch  ,robinsons seabream , a nice spangi and other assorted stuff .

Bummer some obviously great fish were lost to sharks , got two to the boat which from 100m I'm paying for now ! On top of all that saw a couple of sails going nuts jumping at least 6 times and whales everywhere with one hanging at the boat for ten minutes even rubbing past the lines ! Fantastic day out and would recommend them any day of the week . Was $ 350 , but only because it was myself , $ 330 if 2-4 people . That is pick up , lunch , snacks , cooldrink , not to mention coming back with a mountain of fillets of half doz quality fish !

And no , I am not getting anything from these guys , just beats going with 12 or more on a ex cray boat and gettin 2 fish and shit service . If you think its too much $$ , think of what it takes to tow your own boat , costs gear , fuel , etc . I'm off to rotto Saturday just for a day trip but im gonna have to take the rods and have a bit of a play any ideas just fir a bit of fun fishing prob around Thomson bay area thanx guys 

First time out behind rotto (fished out unless you no what ur doing) 300m 600m chasing blue eye,grey band etc all we got were sharks every drift(3 circle rig 1.5kg sinker) looked every where first time out that deep..

First drop 3 F**K Sharks better than nothing but. As far as i now the the sharks we were getting are spiny dogfish plus one sliced my arm. mother f**ker but that was it tryed ever where. I know fishing is called fishing for a reason. We tryed we didnt fall (sort off) i cant wait to get back out there. Might need to go deeper or further away from perth. I would love to catch a couple of rubys

Headed out saturday morning. 1st spot was to check out the barges and managed couple of good size skippy. We then decided to try a spot in the 100's and managed a pinky on a fanky and couple of size black arse on bait.

Moved in closer to try our luck for some fish for the dinner table, i came up to a spot which i havnt fished in a while, set up drift and only managed couple of sargeant bakers and small pinkies, as we were drifting we came across a good looking spot with fish on the sounder 1st drop resulted 12kg 90cm dhui 

Moved to another spot and decided to drop a 7inch mcarthy down, within a few seconds it got hit and after a short fight up came a new PB 91cm dhui of 13kg

Been a while since I last posted a report as I have been very busy making a reef fishing DVD over here on the east coast. I made this DVD to be a learning tool for fishermen across Austrailia and many aspects of it can be used just about anywhere. It was an expensive exercise but I'm happy to help others achieve their very own trophy fish.

The filming could not have been captured at a better time with some real trophy fish being caught including Red Emperor over 15kg, Large Mouth Nannygai over 14kg, Snapper, big reef Mangrove Jacks, Samson, Blue Moari Cod and the list goes on. In total 20 different species were captured in 3 trips.

I also experimented with an underwater camera dropping it down on the fishing spots in depths of 45-65mtrs. The footage captured is truley amazing and really adds a whole new dimension to fishing. I have combined the underwater footage with sounder readings at the exact time to give people a better understanding of what they see on the sounder.

I won't put a million photos up of the fish we have been catching but just some of the better quality fish we encounted aswell as screen shots from the video camera of some sounder readings and underwater footage.

After having a pretty lean year to date and not really catching a good demersal fish for quite a while, as well as having my jigging technique rubbished I was keen to break the drought.

We left the ramp at 6 and was at the first spot by about 7. The sounder was looking promising and on the first drift I got onto something that felt decent, with plenty of headshakes suggesting possibly a pinky. To my surprise when the fish surfaced it was a nice red coloured baldy of about 40cm or so which was my first baldy on a jig. After a few high fives the fish was dispatched and into the esky - drought broken!

We moved on to the next spot to some ground that has produced some great dhu's including a couple in the 90's to Chrisp and a fish around the metre mark to JohnF. The sounder was looking amazing, with what appeared to be a school of dhu's a few metres off the bottom. We set up the first drift and pretty soon it was a triple hook-up! Both John and Daz got their fish up easily, both undersize dhu's. Mine took a bit longer and after a decent fight a 65cm dhu was on deck.

We setup another drift and after a while I hooked onto something that felt solid. The next 10 minutes or so were pretty tense, with me getting line on the fish only for it to power back to the bottom, must have been touch and go for getting bricked at least 5 times. Eventually the fish was worn out, and a monster dhu was on the surface at 90cm and my new pb. We spent at least 5 minutes trying to revive the fish including swimming the fish with the motor running to no avail, the fight had taken its toll.

As we had just about filled the esky and got our boat limit of dhu's we headed off for some sambo action. Numerous fish were caught, including a few big ones before we lost the school. The weather had started to blow up a bit, so we decided to head in. All in all a great day's jigging!

with the weather looking the goods we took off from hillarys at 6:15 to head to rotto and chase some sambos the plan was to hit some spots in the 40-50m mark. after an awesome sunrise we arrived at the first spot and had 3 drifts with no luck. on heading to another spot i came across a nice bit of ground holding a good school of sambos so we very hastily dropped the sea anchor and down went the jigs after about 10 seconds we had a triple hook up unfortunately i got busted off and so did mate trent so it was up to matt to boat a fish.up came a very nice sambo and it was high 5's all round and back down went the jigs and more hook ups. i boated my first of the day on the next drift and was pretty stoked matt pulled up another on the same drift after a few more drifts and a few more fish the school moved on so we decided to head out deeper in search of more fish after trying a few spots with out any luck we decided to go back and hit the spot again. after doing a bit of driving around the spot we located the school and again had a triploe hook up we boated a few more fish then decided to head in at 3:30. all up boated about 10 sambos and lost about the same had an awesome day with trent and matt both catching their first sambos on jigs and both christening their new jigging master combos.thanks for reading

Had an annual leave day Thursday so decided to have a solo session out from woodies, didn't leave the ramp till about 7.30am out and anchored on spot by just after 8.00am and got berly pot into the water and two rods out, was going abit quiet till finally first rod buckles over 70cm juvi sambo comes aboard and then released, second rod gets a hit and a nice sized skippy comes over the side a short while later and first rod gets a big hit and after a little fight another juvi sambo comes onto the deck again around the 70cm mark and again released

Managed to get another nice skippy both went just over 50cm, it was now 11.30 and I had just about decided it was time to pull the anchor and move in to the squid grounds, by this time I had only one rod out after being busted off by something I couldn't stop was tidying the boat up abit when noticed a tug on the rod removed the rod from the holder and took the slack out of the line felt some weight so struck and instantly felt the head shakes after a nice little fight a nice fat 64cm pinky was laying on the deck not my biggest but a nice healthy looking fish, not much happened after that so pulled the anchor and headed in and got 6 nice squid for a nice feed very enjoyable morning out back at the ramp by 2.00pm.

Have also put up a couple of pics from last weekend out from woodies with Dirt my PB sambo busted my arse in 6 metres of water awsome fight was abit of a struggle to hold him up for the pic, and Dirt with a very healthy looking pinky 70+ cm.

What can I say ??? The more challenging the terrains, it bring out the best of me in fishing.
Giant Snakehead at times are usually found in near seaweeds and  underwater branches  N structures terrains.

At time, when we come to those places where there is no boat to charter, we 'll use smaller boat thus make toman fishing overalls difficult for any angler...

Mind you , these giant snakehead fishes by far the strongest freshwater fish in asia. It has once pulled a 70KG angler into the water from the boat. ( I witnessed myself) To be able to fish on  such a  smaller boat, you need to be very calm and quick of mind in order to land this monster fish.

Told the boys(who work for me) if we finished the job early enough I would take them fishing. Went out fron Cockburn yesterday for a couple of hours. Fished ground from 30 -40 m behind Garden Is. Conditions were pretty good. 5 - 8 kn SE. Caught a good mixed bag. Biggest KG went 53cm, smallest 47cm. Pinky was 58cm. Queenie hit the scales at 6.5kg (biggest ive caught to date). Nice to know you can still catch a feed off metro waters.

Been a while since I'de been out on the old kayak so headed out from Hillaries to some inshore reefs this morning. In close not much was happening, and there were a lot of boats dropping baits for a while 5 mins before moving, seemed pretty pointless??

Any-who, found a suitable bit of reef, anchored up nice and close and let the burying begin. After a few wrasse on the light stuff nothing had touched my drifting mulie. Not long after nearly got smoked by some sort of pelagic on my light gear probably smallish sambo but he snicked my braid on the reef.

The skippy started up soon after and bagged out with a few upgrades. They seem to be very thick at the moment. Along with a few released tarwhine, and with the water near glassing off turned out the be a good morning.

Plenty of boats out and about, hope they got stuck into some bigger fish!

This was a few months back now, me and my mate headed to our inshore snapper spot around kwinana. We had no action for the first hour or so just casting out whole squid as drift baits on stradic ci4000 and talica 12 .After that my mates ci4000 screamed after a 10 minute fight a 7-8kg snapper surfaced just as that came up the talica ran and another 8kg snapper surfaced.

Heading out behind garden island tomorow, thinking about going out into the 40's plus searching for some ground for dhufish and snapper. Can anyone give me some advice on how far out we should be heading and maybe some coordinates to your favourite lumps
