Woodman Point
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2008-02-06 10:07I don't know if anyone has posted this info yet, but I picked up the press release from the WA Govt. All the best Colin Hay
31/01/08
Woodman Point will become a major focus for recreational sailors, with four new public boat ramps and boat stacking capacity for more than 300 vessels.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the Government expected to release tenders for building the boat ramps and would invite expressions of interest in constructing and operating a boat stacking facility during February.
Ms MacTiernan said the Woodman Point Recreational Boating Precinct would help meet rapidly growing demand for storage and launching facilities on the metropolitan coast.
“As well as eight boat ramp lanes, a service jetty and the boat stacker, the harbour will offer more than 350 car/trailer bays and additional public car parking.
“Future plans being considered for the precinct include the development of boating related retail space and industrial areas, and possibly the addition of boat pens.
“With the south-west metropolitan population growing rapidly, demand for these facilities can only get stronger.
“Construction of the new boat ramps and car parks could begin as soon as the middle of the year.
“Timing for the boat stacker and associated facilities will depend on the timetable of the successful tender, but obviously we will be favouring proposals that deliver early completion.”
The Minister said the planned expansion would not intrude upon facilities leased and operated by the Cockburn Powerboat Club and an existing boat storage operation.

IGFA PRETESTED LINES
Submitted by tangles on Tue, 2008-02-05 22:07hey guys, ive already had a quick spit on koac thread but for everyone to see, Mr steve wiseman who is in so called charge of the kaoc has said that only 2 types of lines are allowed in comps for line class that is platypus and black magic. No berkley trilene or sren gold or any other IGFA rated or tested line is allowed because as he reckons, each spool is not tested so therefore is not a valid line. Im rather concerned as i went to great lengths last year to get info on this from berkley and even though they sent me an email stating that all there lines are factory tested, our Mr wiseman wouldnt allow these lines to be used! Im only new to the whole pretest light line comp stuff but i find it pretty concerning when one man can basically say that only those 2 lines are valid lines, what about the records that are held on trilene around the world, would that make them illegal and invalid captures. Just be warned if you come up for the classice on 29thfeb,1-2mar dont have anything but those 2 lines or you will be disquallifed. Your opinions on this would be greatly appreciated cos stopping short of telling him where to shove it I really dont know what to do. If i can get some valid proof that he cant argue im sure he will choke on his words and i know alot of you out there are into your line class fishing for major comps. cheers people. tangles

Port Gregory boat ramp
Submitted by bouttime on Mon, 2008-02-04 17:31LOCATION/Sub Location/Facility - Port Gregory, Access to Abrohlos Islands/ North island
LAUNCH TYPE/Facilities - PUBLIC RAMP - Beach launch
INSIGHTS:
- Not a well used ramp, shelter from the ocean with a reef for protection
- Dirt carpark to park car and trailer
- Soft sand so will need ramps to assist when pulling the boat out.
- Unmarked chanel but with an up to date chart you can see the enterance
- Care must be taken when launching/retreiving due to soft sand. Check first to make sure
EMERGENCY COVERAGE - Contact either Geralton or Kalbarri by phone as not to sure about radio coverage.
There is a small shop for food and drinks and a caravan park for fuel. It is best to take everything you need.
Thoughts folks?

charter fishing
Submitted by mike79 on Sun, 2008-02-03 14:58went out on Aqualib charter form mandurah yesterday with a group of guys form dads work and had a ball out there. i must say that stephen was a great skipper and tried to put us on alot of fish. He even helped a few of us out on sounder readings and a few other tips. the boat ended up with dhuies, a load of black ass a few nice red snapper, a massive baldchin, king george and a 5ft gummy shark which by the way tastes awsome. I will definitly be heading back out with him again. We even found new ground too whihc produced alot of the days catch which is now marked for next yeras trip out for us.

White Hills
Submitted by Colin Hay on Sun, 2008-02-03 11:20My wife organised for me to go on a 4wd fishing trip with Bruce at Gone Fishin Safaris for my birthday yesterday.
We were taken down to Bruce's spot at White Hills and had a great day. Due to a late cancellation, there was only myself and a keen young guy on the trip and between us we caught about 30 tailor, lost count of the herring, a skippy and a whiting.
Most of the tailor were just under size, but we managed to catch enough legal ones for a feed for our families.
If you were chasing herring you could have pulled them in one after the other.
Anyway, what I am trying to say is, that White Hills is definately worth a fish for tailor at the moment and if your a herring man or woman, get down there.
Oh, and if you are like me and you don't have a 4wd and you want to go fishing with a nice guy who really knows his landbased fishing, then give Bruce a try.
Sorry, forgot to take my camera, so I can't show you any pics.
All the best Colin Hay

Floreat Drain
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2008-01-31 11:27Went for a quick fish at Floreat Drain before work this morning. Beautiful morning and quite a few other anglers were taking advantage of the weather. Caught and released a few small tailor (really small) and a few others were doing the same.
Could be worth an afternoon fish (when hopefully the bigger fish will come in withe the seabreeze) for anyonme chasing Metro tailor at the moment.
All the best, Colin Hay

Crays
Submitted by Bodie on Tue, 2008-01-29 14:18Hi all
Looks like the Crays could be on the move from the deeper water.
Professionals have moved a lot of pots in closer around the 3-6 mile out now.... 12-16m of water
We got 3 Yesterday...but its looking the good at the moment.
Cheers.
Remember...the professionals dont like you potting too close to theirs, and will more times than not just run yours over with their monster boats.

GPS
Submitted by Steve Richards on Sun, 2008-01-27 12:03Hi everyone, bought a GPS chart plotter yesterday NAVMAN 5507 with the whole of OZ C-map. My question is in the instructions ( yes i have read them, or at least some of them, lol), it says that the external areial has to be 10ft from any other radio signal. Which is a bit of a problem seeing as i've got my 27meg radio(existing) and an AM-FM radio that also has to go in. I wanted to put the areial on the dash to protect it and the instructions say not to mount it too high because of boat roll, any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.PS, where's all the topics and last posts gone.
