hi guys, was hoping to fish out from Manduarah on the weekend. I am planning on heading out past the James Service reef about 7ks to the next conture line of 30mtrs.

Swan River Crabs

Thinking about giving it another shot next week after a few attempts in years gone by with no sucess. Any decent catches as i have seen a lot of boats crabbing latley?

Fish from the weekend

Made the most of the good weather this weekend and got the boat out both days. Saturday started with some bluefin, took 1 for bait and 1 for a feed then released 5 or 6. That was enough of that so off for a bottom bash, picked up a double header of dhus both 60ish on the first mark. I was pretty happy to get them both in after untangling them from a line and the sea anchor. Then went to have a jig but found some new ground on the way, 3 drops and we filled our bag with 2 reds and 2 blackass. Top day and 2 pbs upped for myself

Today started much the same grabbing one tuna for bait and releasing a couple then straight to the ground I'd found yesterday. The fish were on the chew again and we picked up some more reds a pink and another blackass. Highlight of the day was the 2.5m shark we had chasing most of our fish up, almost had his head in the net while chasing one of the reds. If only the weather was like this every weekend.

Yesterday's Run

Headed out on what was meant to be a nice Easterly only to be greeted with shiteful strong southerlys. Anyway we endured and pushed ahead, and the result is what happens when your son has now out PB'd me witha 13.5kg beast. He also picked up a nice whiskery of 10kg. His day for sure.

Still geeting reasonable bags of crays and they are still whitish.

Quick Jurien run

Towed the Barcrusher to Jurien Friday night with a mate and headed out yesterday morning, After 3 nor west blowies, a whaler , hammerhead and a Tiger Shark we got a nice bag of demersals including my PB baldie, lost what I think was a big dhu when a 7/0 gamakatsu straightened - bugger! Good day out despite the wind .

out with BJ today for a baitless fish

left at sparrows,Looked for sbt, then ended up out from south side of rotto, comenced a long drift and BJ nailed this very nice dhu on a 8 oz bullet head jig with large grub tail.big boy went 101 cm.He had earlier nailed a big sambo on the same jig. seemed quiet so joined the queue to pull the boat out at hillays.

Launching at Cape Preston for the Monties

I'm in the very early stages of planning for a trip to the Monties, in company with another bloke who's done it a few times. Trying to work out the dates, WRT to tides. Obviously want to fish the neaps.  Does anyone have an hard info re the level of tide you need for a) crossing the creek and b) actually launching. He's a bit vague on what constitutes high and low enough. ie, cross the creek at 1.6m without having to drown the vehicle? launch at anything over 2m, or does it need 3 metres? He's only normally lauching his 615BC, and says the higher the better? But what would be a minimum? Tides for the estimated departure date.

Not ever having been there, my plan was to drive the 950 k to the Fortescue roadhouse the day before, accom for the night, get up early to be at the creek crossing at low, then wait for the tide to rise enough to launch? His approach is to drive over from Tom price overnight, cross the creek in the dark, then launch on high the next morning. But we'd have to wait until around the 16th to do that, and we are getting back into the big tides shortly after. any opinions?

trolling for tuna.

hey guys.

given the good weatehr tomorrow, im gonna try head out a bit deeper after some of these tuna people keep thinking about. heading out form hillarys.

when trolling, just wondering what speeds people would suggest?

heading to about 30m depth, gonna try a combo of lures, and have a few of the x-raps to cast as well as small metal slices. any other suggestions?

Rod rebuild

  Hi guys,

I have a couple of rods that need a rebuild-great blanks but the guides on them are really crap.  They are basically 6–10 kg rods with single foot guides for casting.   They each have eight guards plus the tip. If I want sic guides, does anyone have any idea what it might cost me to get new ones put on these? I’ve never had this done before.
 Thanks in advance

City Fishing

Fishing Cocos Islands

Lost values

Nothing has been learned by the Australians post the ball tampering fiasco. win at any cost remains supreme thought.

On the news last night there it is for all to see, what a great display of sportsmanship,...Not
An extra ball (which IMO) should have been called a no-ball or what ever is bowled and the batsman is caught out on it. With any self value there is no way the wicket should have been claimed or taken.

Australian cricketers have sold there honesty and respect for the all mighty dollar, and this is what our young up and coming sports people are watching/ So please don't use the words Australian cricketer and sportsman in the same sentence because it's a bloody contradiction.

Totally discussted with it and won't be watching any cricket of any persuasion with Australians involved.

Tamala Station Crabbing

Anybody had success chasing blue mannas at Tamala? Have caught plenty at Monkey Mia but don’t know if they are that far down the bay?

Yamaha outboard servicing

Just wondering who everyone uses in Perth for their logbook services, cheers in advance

can anyone help me with finding a set of footrests for my boat, please see attached photo, something like this or even a fibreglass type

interior upgrade

hey guys, i decided to update my tired looking interior.

After trying to find seat boxes on the net that were very bloody expensive & small-ish for what i wanted, i decided to make my own from marine ply. Inside & base of seat boxes has been sealed with a water proof membrane. Built in the 2 x compartments, 1 holds 4 x table trays & the smaller on is for keys, phone, camera's ect. Made a more " safety friendly " location in the passenger seat for my "Life Bouy" which will now just float out in case of an emergency

then, it was time to takle the floor, so down went new carpet as well.

Just need to have the tired old uphosltery on side panels done to match the new seats & we are done.

All up, it has cost me about $800.00, which is what 1 fibreglass seat box would have cost me

4 Ton Tri Axle Overhaul

As promised some time back are pictures of my 1993 Trailit 4 ton tri axle before and after rebuild. If I’d paid a company to do the complete job it would border line on cost of a new trailer. Trailer parts supplied all the parts. Brakes West supplied New pistons and seals and replaced 3 seized bleed nipples. Hartways did the galvanizing, I did not have the draw bar done as it was in good shape. Shane a Fremantle trailers installed new spring hangers, stainless brake lines and commissioned the braking system, they also put a GVM upgrade to just under 4.5T.

Trailer maintenance

Doing some major maintenance on my trailer and decided to share some of my experiences so far

First, further to a recent post about removing stuck pistons, a picture showing my setup in action

Next, my reasons for never buyong anything galvanised if stainless is available. I have had the slides that stuck that only an oxy torch could remove them resulting in their destruction anyway

This picture shows the stainless slide completely clean and ready to be re-inserted wheras the non stainless was rusted and partly stuck. Was difficult to remove and will have to be sanded clean and the bore will have to be cleaned and honed

Lastly the moving part of the slide

This picture shows the moving arm and the seal grove which will have to be completelycleaned and sanded to make it servicable.

After the last few years of trailer maintenance I would strongly recommend anyone buying a new trailer to spend the extra $$$ and go stainless.

Hope article not too long and boring

Cheers

Eric

Keeping Ice on fishing trips

Chasing a little info from the forum on  keeping ice whilst on extended fishing trips where Ice is hard to come by or make.

I've done a bit of reading on the use of dry ice, and how this can be used to extend the life of normal ice. From what I've read this is done by covering the bottom of the esky with dry ice sheets, then putting a thin insulating barrier of alfoil over the dry ice and placing block ice on top. The key is apparently you cannot have any real areas of 'air' inside the esky, so if you remove a block of ice it needs to be replaced with scrunched up news paper or somethnig of the like. Also cover the esky with a insulation blacket of some sort. The main esky is purely ice storage only

Has anyone tried this process? Did a trip for a few days last year, and really struggled with ice up the north, even with fairly large blocks.

Interested to hear what other do

Cheers

Early morning starts

Made the most of reasonable mornings this week,on the water at 4:am both Wednesday and Friday.got my mates onto monster dhuies on wed and both had tackle failure after being hooked up for 10 minutes, they were both pretty sad,I made sure it didn’t happen to me and got this 91cm beauty,Friday was tough getting out to the bank and took nearly 2 hours, bite was on and off but Eric was on fire and caught a couple of nice bangers early.was good to be out there, home both days by lunch as the southerlies were cranking.
