Broome boat launch

Hey Guys, thinking of taking the Coraline to Broome for 8days. I have an extendable drawbar but not sure it's enough for the big tides for beach launching in Broome. Not at all keen on getting my Cruiser wet. Any Broome fishos with local knowledge launching 6m boats, like to hear your views.

Busselton

Will be down Busselton this weekend to spend the weekend with my wife while she does her midwifery practice at Busselton hospital, I will be down Friday and will have a few hours to fish. Was thinking busso jetty, is it worth it or am I better off trying somewhere else.

Denmark boating

Hey guys, planning a a 2 week trip to Denmark in October. Can anyone advise if its worth taking a 22ft boat, not sure if it will be waste of time as it looks like it would be pretty hairy trying to get out into the Ocean ( looking at Google Earth )

Should i just stick to Land Based Fishing down there ??

Calamari Classic

How did everyone go? Are there any pictures/results?

FG knot failures

I had two FG knot failures in less than a week.

1) 10 lb Sunline braid into 12 lb Fluorocarbon.  Caught a few fish, then went to cast (small 1/12 oz jig head) and had the whole lure and fluoro depart.  Maybe I had the bail arm over or something, but the fg knot separated.

2)  65 lb whiplash braid into 50 lb Penn SuperX shock leader.  My mate was using this rod, he hooked a big stingray and hauled it to the edge of the sand.  I walked down to the waterline, grabbed the leader right near the knot, (knot was inside my hand), started hauling thisray out and the FG knot separated.

In both cases the braid was still 100% intact, but the mono just slipped out of the crossed over loops.

Granted, I'm an idiot and can't follow youtube videos to save myself, but seriously I'm having trouble with this knot.  For something that is supposed to be 100% line strength I've found it to be far less than ideal.

Does anyone else have any trouble with the FG knot?

Crimping tools ,

Does anyone know where I can get a pair of Centro crimp tool ?

Stickbaits advice

 Hi guys

As the salmon season is fast approaching l have been preparing all my gear for the season any way this year l want to give stick baits and other hard body lures a shot my question is does using snap swivels effect the way the lure swims should l just tie the Uni straight to the lure or is there other better methods for attaching lures to your leader like using a swivel to a split ring? Also the stickbait l am using is a halco c-gar in the back black colour what type of retrieve should l use?

Thanks in advance

NZ Charters

The deckie and i are planning a month in NZ from mid August and we're looking for reccomendations for a good salt water charter or any other useful info.

Hi People, last year the family and i took the boat 5.8m to Coral bay but it blew for the entire time we were there so didnt get out.

But this year we are camping in the Exmouth national park for the first time.

Is there anyone else fishing exmouth over easter that wouldnt mind if we tagged along for a day or two in our boat to get a feel of the area? not after any secret spots just would like to get a feel of the area.

Any help would be greatly appreciated even if its just simple advice.

Thanks in advance.

HELP calamari classic

35 boats past me . I was 100 meters inside ban zone. They where heading towards mewstone . Carnac . And windmills. All Out of bounds.( my main ground also) In respect to complete angler rocko who sponred me and my boys we stayed. Poor form . No sour grapes ,but so much for watching. Picked up an NS Blackhole Demersal Explorer for a good price - Now a reel

I had some vouchers for one of the large supermarket chain fishing stores who have a 20% off sale this weekend. The Joondalup store has some OH NS Blackhole Demersal Explorer rods in PE 2 & 3 on clearance for $150 minus a further 20%.

Looking for an OH rod anyway and seeing some positive feedback on this forum on these rods I thought this was a good use of the vouchers. I took the PE 3 Jig weight 40 - 180g. I was planning to put an old school calcutta 700 (I know too heavy) on the rod until I find the right reel however the reel seat is too large for the rod. I have a plan B with an Abu Garcia reel.

I have not looked at new overhead reels much until now. Does anyone have an Overhead Blackhole explorer and what reel have you matched with it? Is it a tight fit to get the reel seat into the rod?

Any trimmers here?

Looking to get a custom made fish weighing sling made up seeing as I can't really find anything suitable on the market.

Anyone here do this sort of thing?

Salmon busting up on surface this afternoon- Palm Beach.

Yep- Big school this afternoon (2.20 o'clock) In close, watched from jetty as they got closer. Birds were going beserk.

Not a fishing rod in sight(included me).

FishRanger Closing Down

I just checked Fishranger to look at the forecast for the weekend.

A pop up message appeared to say it is closing down in the next few weeks as it was "not able to get a business on board". They are setting up a Go Fund Me page as a last resort.

Sad news as I have been finding that the info is the most accurate of the wind sites that present the forecast in a user friendly fashion... as it reads from BOM.

It will be interesting to know how much they need to raise to keep the site active.

Bumper salmon season expected for WA,??

interesting article , over the years salmon have always turned up on the capes around the 10-12 march in numbers ..hopefully this season will be agood one
hezzy
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-03-08/salmon-on-parry-beach/9529742

A bumper salmon season is on the cards for WA, according to the state's peak angling body, with an early start likely because of cooler ocean currents along the west coast.

If the season goes as expected, it would follow on from two other exceptional years, where the sheer volume of salmon saw swimmers in Perth and Rockingham ducking to avoid leaping schools of fish.

Recfishwest spokesman Tim Grose said salmon have already been spotted along the south coast near Esperance and Albany.

"We've seen already through social media there are some schools starting to form and move," Mr Grose said.

"Less warm water pushing down from the north and more of that cool water coming in from the south means we're seeing fish start their run early, so the time is now for fishers to get their gear ready."

Mr Grose said the best place to catch salmon was from the beach, and Recfishwest would be distributing a map detailing the top fishing locations.

"Albany's Cheynes Beach on the South Coast and Injidup Beach, Hamelin Bay and Bunker Bay in the South West are excellent and safe spots to go south of Perth," he said.

Changing weather helps fish

Oceanographers say the early salmon run is not surprising, with a change in weather systems bringing cooler ocean currents to the west coast in recent years.

UWA Professor of Coastal Oceanography Charitha Pattiaratchi said the usual summer pattern was for high pressure systems to linger in the Bight, bringing easterly winds and hot weather.

Photo: It will be the third consecutive bumper salmon system, if the forecasts are accurate. (ABC News)

But he said these high pressure systems have been failing to stay put, pushing southerly winds over the ocean and cooling it down.

"For the last maybe three or four years we've seen a similar pattern," Mr Pattiaratchi said.

"2016 was the warmest year on record globally, and during that time there were only three places in the world where it was cooler — the northern Atlantic off Greenland, in the South Atlantic and in Australia's south west.

"The same pattern was there in 2017 also, but it was not as cool as the year before."

Mr Pattiaratchi said the southerly winds had also been pushing water offshore, bringing cold water to the surface — a process known as upwelling.

He said water rising from the ocean floor contained more nutrients, which meant more food for fish, explaining an increase in numbers.

"We all like the colder and milder weather, but from an ocean point of view, it increases the productivity, particularly in terms of fish," he said.

Raymarine Axiom

Owners or Axiom units and prospective purchasers be advised that Raymarine has produced a series of videos on how to use thier units for the best results. Several owners have posted thier dissapointment in using these units. The auto settings do not produce the best results and owners need to customise diplays for best results. I have used my 12 inch unit for the past 9 months and after many hours of use and adjustment have it dialed in for excellent results . There is a learning curve and owners need to put in hours of use to get best results. No manufacturers units work perfectly out of the box in auto mode without proper hands on tuning. The new tips and tricks videos from Raymarine will help new users if they can be bothered to make an effort to learn how thier  units work best. I find with any unit they need to be adjusted differently for daily conditions especially depth. One frustrated owner posted that he was not happy that fish were displayed as icons in the 3d mode rather than as in standard mode. Had they been bothered to read the specifications and instruction manual they would have known this prior to purchase. The mighty Furuno dff3d equivelent does the same but at double the price. It also has to be adjusted for best display. No i do not work for raymarine neither do i get a kick back from them for this post. It just frustrates me when people bag a unit when they cant be bothered to make an effort on how to learn new technology. The videos can be found at    www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcDVq5a_62M     or on the Raymarine website. I hope Axiom owners can enhance thier units performance for best results. This can be achieved IF owners make the effort.

Friday Funnys

Enjoy

Tomorrow's forecast

Just curious if anyone else had very little wind showing for tomorrow over the last two days?

I just checked it tonight and saw its actually very windy... can't understand how it was so wrong as I refreshed it a few times over the last two days.

Had it set to Ocean reef marina... usually I find that is very reliable.

So guess not going out on the boat tomorrow :(

Polarised Bifocals

Hey,

I'm hoping to find some cheap polarised bifocals for fishing out on the boat, reading sounder, chartplotter etc without having to swap to my reading glasses. I'm after about 2x magnification.

Has anyone had any experiences?

Many thanks,

Come on WA Government

In both NSW and Victoria if you are a pensioner you do not need to hold a fishing licence yet in WA whilst we get a discount we are still required to hold a licence.......time WA recognised us OAP's and copied the eastern states lead What do you think?
