Make your own soft plastics
Submitted by kknlk on Sat, 2017-07-08 10:00Anybody try doing this with silicone sealant? and if so do you catch anything with it? Seems easy enough to make maggots and worms although will take a while to set.

? for Black Jew gurus in Port Hedland
Submitted by Just1morecast on Thu, 2017-07-06 17:24Hey all,
just a quick question for the black jew gurus in PH. Going to try and give it a crack out of the tinny on Sunday night. Full moon and a tide change from low to high co-inciding with the moon rise. Is this worth a shot? Also being a fisho that tends to only use lures. Will soft placcy entice them? Or should I stick to a strip bait, running ball sinker rig? Any help will be greatly appreciated as im a newby to this style and species.

Slide baiting reels
Submitted by sheldoncy23 on Thu, 2017-07-06 16:21gday fellas
with tax time coming up I'm looking into getting a slide bait setup to target sharks mullas etc... I'm pretty clued up about rods but I have no idea about Reels and reel/spoil sizes and the best way to spool them with the lengths of brain vs mono and what breaking strain and diameter. Also I've never learned to cast and overhead reel so that's something to take into account too
Cost isn't really an issue here so any and all suggestions are welcome

Jurien winter pelagics
Submitted by Jmac on Thu, 2017-07-06 10:24Hey all,
wondering if there is much point trolling this time of year at Jurien bay.
I imagine there may be some small Southern Bluefin Tuna around, would there still be a chance of a Spaniard or Yellowfin?

Non Fishing Related - Spare Key
Submitted by Uluabuster on Wed, 2017-07-05 10:27Hi everyone,
This is non-fishing related but I was hoping someone can assist me with this query.
I bought a used CX5 recently for the missus from someone in carsales.com.au.
After payment and exchange of paperwork and signatures, when we were about to drive the car the owner then confessed to losing the spare key. She wanted to go half on the spare but I insisted that she should bear the cost.
This is one of the those keyless entry key fob whereby the engine is started by a push button so the replacement will be costly.
Eventually she agreed to get a replacement for me but I am still to hear from her as she said she need to speak to the dealer from which she bought her car from.
My question is:
- Is it my right to request for spare key from the seller ? I would think it is part of the whole car package. In other words, it is the seller's duty to ensure the spare key is available.
- She wasn't entirely upfront with this and only told us when we asked for the spare key before driving off.
- If she keeps dodging my calls, can I rock up at her house to demand for the key ? I know where she lives.
- I called up the dealer and was quoted $500+!!! Does anyone ever replaced their spare keys and are there any after market ones ?
Thanks
Uluabuster

Looking to find out if anyone knows the current status of access to white point? I haven't been down there in a few years and the last report I'd heard is that it had been closed again due to idiots leaving rubbish and doing the wrong thing again.
Hoping to head down for a night or so in a couple weeks.

Exmouth advice?
Submitted by sackshaker on Mon, 2017-07-03 07:14Hi all. I will be arriving in exmouth today on our family holiday. Will be there for the next ten days and have the 5.2m tinny in tow. We have been up a couple times before but never with the boat. We are staying at the lighthouse so happy to launch either side.
Ive got all the usual setups for trolling, jigging and bottom fishing.
Would love to get onto some demersals and im keen to fish inside and outside the reef. I see the wind forecast is up slightly for the next few days so inside the reef or on the gulf side may be an early option??
Would love to get my son into some good fish.
All advice ive been given about exmouth to date is "ya can't go wrong up there" id hate to be the one that proves that theory wrong.
Cheers for any help in advance
Mick and Cattle dog.

Hillarys post storm pinks
Submitted by z00m on Sun, 2017-07-02 21:44I had been checking the weather overnight and saw the wind had dropped away from the forecast around midnight and looking at the beach cams this morning it was looking like a fish might be possible. I pinged MickC to see what he was up to and he was thinking the same thing so a plan was hatched. We left Hilarys about 1:30pm and the ramp was a pretty lonely place.
We headed out About 2 miles to a spot we have explored before inside the reefs and we had a look around for another lump and see if we could get that firing. We initially caught a couple of small pinks and then it went completely dead. We had drifted off the spot a little as the anchor was dragging in the confused conditions. Left over swell, some rebound swell and the current, all had the boat moving around a bit.
We decided to move near a place that has worked for inshore pinks before but found a new lump to try. Again, a couple of small fish but the sounder was at least looking better than the other spot. We berleyed and cubed and threw every combination of bait out we could think of.
Then mick remembered he had one of his ShoreCatch combo berley packs in the esky so at about 4:30 it went into the water in it's self contained onion bag. The cloud of berley and the slick produced was sensational. The mulie shred created an instant slick and got a lot of berley into the water quickly, and then the fish based berley kept the trail going for about 90 minutes.
I landed a small pinky, and then in almost frustration I put a combo of squid, mulie, skippy and bonito on the hook and sent it down. Combo berley pack and combo bait seemed to do the trick and after the determined fish had 5 goes at getting hooked, this 55cm pinky came over the side.

We were on the board. The ground we were fishing was really rugged and we both lost a few rigs to the reef. Persitence paid off though and using the smallest weight I could to get the bait down but not get wedged into the reef and I was on to another fish. This one was the twin of the first one and it too was 55cm and into the ice it went.

We were only in 10 metres of water, so I sent down another bait and a little while later I was on to number 3 for the night. This one was sent back very healthy and it swam off strong. Tripplets!

Now I have had to sit and watch Mick boat a number of pinks in my time and sometimes he is throwing them back and I haven't even had one to take home so I was only feeling 'slightly' guilty that he hadn't caught one. I convinced him to match the berley and send a smorgasboard bait down to the bottom. Not long afterwards, and on his tiny Gomoku rod, he was on. This fish peeled line from his little outfit and I was sure he would get bricked. Some fine angling saw a much larger model come into the net (I had a 20 tries to net it!) and after a quick photo it was also sent back to the reef to play again another day. Mick still had a freezer full of reef fish from the Abrolhos trip he went on recently so there was no need to kill this one.

He was pleased with both the fish and the release I think. Once it started to rain we decided to pull up stumps and head in.
While it was hard trying to find the right combinations to make it work today, persistence and doing the right things at the right times really made the catches a bit more special. We were back at the ramp before 7pm and glad to get somewhere warm.

Storm Garfish Season Starting
Submitted by Mick C on Sun, 2017-07-02 11:40It is the time of year when storm garfish are starting to become available at market. The numbers are fairly low now (Friday's image below), but should increase in the coming months.

Based on previous experience, demand for big storm gardies significantly exceeds supply. They are not generally caught by professional fisherman in large enough volume for pallet lots, so the number of suppliers become limited and there is little availability.
Shore Catch is offering a service where you can pre-order storm garfish and we will supply when they become available. We are currently keeping a list of customers on a “first in first served” basis and you just need to contact us to be added to the list. There is no guarantee of exactly when we will be able to supply but we will communicate with you about your order.
All fish are purchased market fresh, graded, vacuum sealed (100 micron bags) and snap frozen. They are currently in 2 size classes – XL (3-5 fish per kg) and L (6-8 fish per kg), which are packed in 1kg lots and price is $25. If stored appropriately the packs will last for a few years.
We trust this is a service that will be of value, and look forward to working with you for your high quality storm garfish needs.
Mick

Need to take Burley or just Drift is better?
Thanks in advance. Hopefully the weather plays nice.
