Help with dragonfly 6 sounder/gps

Hi Everyone,   (raymarine Dragonfly 6 green plug)

My unit is 1.5 years old and has stopped working and out of warranty(1 year only). If i press the button to turn it on i just hear a beep and screen remains black. I have done a little googling and also rang raymarine. It is either the pins which are fine from inspection or the main power/ transduscer wiring that is faulty (as per tech raymarine).

Anyway options are throw in the bin and get a new one.

Buy a new cable/transducer $150 and hope that was the issue.

I can send the unit to raymarine but have to pay for tech and postage(not keen im stubborn unit should be working after 1.5 years not abused well looked after).

Or if possible if anyone has this unit with the green plug whether i could meet with them somewhere and just plug it in and diagnose if the cable/wiring was the issue and then i'll know for sure.

If anyone is able to help please pm me and i will be very grateful.

Will obviously sort out with carton of beer of choice.

If not no worries happy fishing and i will bin the unit and replace with another brand, any recommendations around the $1000 mark must have sounder/gps combo and preferrably touch screen.

Thanks Harry

Gnaraloo report 2017

So a bit of a delayed report but here it is.

As with other reports lately the wind was a big killer for us but we managed to get the first two days in and it was action packed, the fish were on the chew everywhere we went. It's a shame we couldn't have had a third day to top it off. Anyway as the pics show below a PB Baldy for me of 4.8kg and a PB Rankin of 9.5KG on Plastic with my Gomoku and 4k Stella. We caught 9 reds in two days and as you can see  an assortment of other things. The Macks were red hot just out of the bay and one of thos efunny stories where the boys in the other boat were about to pull their jet lure out of the water when it got taken by about a 10 kg Spaniard.

Good to see fellow memeber Nick82 up there with his mate Shane0, he's a bloody charachter Nick if you're reading this. The boys came up for beers about 4.30 one arvo and left around 10 lol so it was shrivelled Lasagna for tea, but a top talking, drinking and laughing Sesh.

We took my mate's dad Peter up there who's never done this kind of fishing before and it blew him away. He had some awesome yarns to tell about his travels as I think he's visited just about every station up this coast.

Went for a big walk around the station dumping grounds and the workshop areas etc, it's a real shame that the place is so run down and really needs a big clean up and some TLC

Anyway it's booked again for next year and I'll keep going back there as it's in my opinion the best fishing this state has to offer. It  takes a bit of an effort to get in there and is hard on the car and boat trailer, but if you prepare well you'll have no dramas.

Launching Gracetown

Hi fellow fishos, In the next few weeks I wanna try and head out of gracetown for the first time. I usually launch in the geo bay but wanna try and launch closer to Margies. I believe it is pretty unforgiving launching from this boat ramp. Can anyone give me some advise on conditions, which route to head out with? I have an18ft runabout. Thanks in advance

Market Fresh Bait from Shore Catch

In order to supply our customers with high quality products, both retail and wholesale, Shore Catch can buy at auction from the Perth Fish Market.

The lots are generally small (20-200kg) directly from the fishing boats and comprise just about every commercially valuable species caught in WA. The product is fresh food grade but, as we know, there is no real value in using substandard baits when you have invested lots of time, energy and money to get to the water.

Our main species will be storm garfish, mullet, sardines (mulies & scalies), whiting, trevally, assorted bait fish and anything else customers request

Available species, volume and cost is of course highly seasonal, but we are in a position to take orders on this basis. You need to specify type, weight, packing requirements and maximum cost and we will tell you when, and if, you can collect bulk orders.

Our retail outlet in Wangara stocks our full range of bait and burley products and is open between 10am and 6pm weekdays. Shore Catch products are also stocked in quality tackle shops across the Perth and surrounding region.

Please contact us if you are interested in discussing your requirements.

**Future Solar WA** Do you have Solar Power yet?

G’day all

Firstly let me introduce myself.

I am a long time member of Fishwrecked, having been here for over seven years under the tag of “Stax”. I am quite well known amongst the Shark Bay-Steep Point-Dirk Hartog regulars as Steep Point is my favoured fishing spot.

I worked at Campbell’s Pro Tackle, in Leederville for a few years and there I met many a keen angler and Campbell’s reputation for being “Steep Point Central” was well known.

Now it is time to support the website that has supported me for the past seven years.

I am now working with a locally owned and operated solar company called Future Solar WA.

We are in the business of selling fully installed Solar systems to residential and commercial properties.

At Future Solar WA we sell a complete range of inverters including the most popular brands such as Fronius, SMA, ABB, GoodWe, SunGrow and Solaredge.

We believe we are very competitive in the market place and if you are considering the purchase of a Solar System, we would be more than happy to help you out with your questions and to furbish you with a quotation.

Our entry level smaller Solar Systems start at just $1,499 fully installed, for a 2KW, 8 panel system.

The more popular 5KW Fronius (Austrian made) system with 6.5KW of panels starts at $4,299 with 23 x ET260W panels.

As you will all be aware you power bill has been on the rise for the last 10 years, doubling in price since 2006. If you would like to see the savings that can be made on your power bill please let me know and we can do a site visit (to ensure there are no hidden costs) and answer all of your questions.

You can PM me if you wish, however an email to mark@futuresolarwa.com.au would be replied to more swiftly.

You can also call me on 0404045106

Thanks for your interest.

Soft Plastic jig head weights

Hi, I am heading up to Exmouth and going to try my luck at softplastics. I am going to use the following Zman plastics

5" Streakz, 5" paddlerz, 5" Jerkshad, 7" Jerkshad, 6" Swimmerz, 8" streakz and 10" Heroz.

I have the range of hook size's I need from tackle tactics but just wondering what sort of jig head weights I should use. I will be mainly deep sea if the weather is good.

Should I get a whole heap of different weights and give them a go?

Your thoughts.

 Hi Folks,

chasing your thoughts & opinions on an older hull.

A 5.6m Pacemaker with a 115Hp Yammy 2 stroke compared with a 5.6m Voyager with a 145Hp 2 stroke Merc.

I know the Merc is bigger but mainly interested in the hull comparison for ride & strength.

Appreciate your input.

support - non fishing 2nd attemp

 Hello fello fishos,

Admin feel free to delete if required .

learnings from last attemp; dont post from phone as it is a challenge . 2nd learning; dont be a twat and try it again from the phone and fail, wasting more time!

I was writing to remind all out there that this friday is purple bra day which is fundraising for the Breast cancer care WA. Our family found out the hard way with my wife being diagnosed 11 months ago at the age of 33 years young. Since we were drawn into this space i was amazed to see/hear of the amount of young women and families going through this as I grew up thinking it was an older person illness.

Fortunatly my wife is now doing well and probably strong enough to outfish me again! We were very fortunate to have the support from Breast Cancer Care WA throughout the wash of surgery and treatment with small things that make a big differance.

So this is where i ask if anyone out there is in a position to support then please do and those who cant or dont want to, thanks for taking the time to read my dribble.

All this month we are donating $5 from every job in our business and if you want , you can go to our website www.amanathand.com.au and there is a link for purple bra donations or just go direct to Breast Cancer Care WA.

Thanks in advance peeps!

Regards

Leon

 Hi everyone

I was hoping to get some intel on some spots to wet a line shore based in Port Denison/Dongara area.

Any suggestions would be great Cheers !!

Northerly current

Was out yesterday in amazing conditions in areas on the 40 metre contour, but the Northerly current was absolutely ripping. We anchored using our newly installed Minn Kota trolling motor and it was like anchoring in a fast flowing channel. Baits ended up 20 metres befind the boat even though we were locked in with the Minn Kota. Fishing was very slow with almost no bites and baits were coming up untouched even though we were seeing heaps on the sounder. Only managed one nice baldie for the day and released 3 small dhuies and 1 small pinky. Did anyone else out there yesterday experience similiar ?

direction bank

want to do our first trip out past the 3 mile and are looking at heading out to direction bank when the weather is good and trying to find some new ground any tips on direction bank and how long will it take to get out there and can you see shore etc any help is apprecatied cheers

Carnarvon channel?

Heading to Carnarvon next week but have heard there are issues with the channel leading from town out to the channel markers, anybody able to give us an update? thanks

Releasing fish when Gut hooked

he guys,

anyone know what the best thing to do is when you gut hook a fish? Gut hooked a good dhu today but was already at quota. Hooked with gang hooks as I was anchored trying to catch pinkies. If I tried to get hooks out probably would of just fucked him up so decided to cut the line at the top hook. Thought it could give him a fighting chance. Really disappoints me when this happens just feels so wasted. Any thoughts or advice would be good. Cheers

Squid fishing

Hi everyone, I am not experienced at doing land based squid fishing, so can anyone help me.

I live North of the river but dont  mind travelling to get a feed, so can anyone tell me where

to find these little suckers and what are the best times.

Also if anyone is going out to do some land based squid fishing do you mind if I tag along.

Hillarys Dhus

Took my brother out today to hit some promising ground we sounded out in the 40s two weeks ago and there were fish down there but we couldn't even raise a bite. Tonnes of birds smashing so we chucked out the bird exciter and trolled a deep diver and a jelly baby and even went straight through a basketball size bustup and couldn't hook up. Tried a few more coral patches around the 40-43m mark and it was looking like another one of those days. 2.5 hours fishing without a decent bite.

It was 4:30 by this stage so we decided to head back to the 3 Mile in time for sunset and berley up for snapper but I made a quick detour via the spot in the 30s we caught some Sgt Bakers on our last trip and where the Mrs and I caught a tonne of undersized snapper and a nice Blackarse.

Drove over it and the screen lit up like Ben Cousins on a glass pipe so we set the drift and I was onto a decent fish only to lose it from a cut line. I think I was gilled raked.

Set up a second drift and I was on again and my bro was on too and I pulled up a dhu double header 46 and 52 and he pulled up a 58. We had our bag but with the dhus on the chew I threw caution to the wind and released both mine and chucked on a Lamble and went round again and after about 5 jigs I was on again and after a decent fight I raised a 71cm beauty.

Amazing how you can go from boiled lollies to choclates in the blink of an eye out there!

leaving fuel in underfloor tank

Hi, have never had a boat with an underfloor tank but have one now, I have around half a tank (30 lt) of premium unleaded, sitting in my boat tank and have not been out in the boat for 5 weeks, but have ran the motor on rabbit ears in between, do I drain the tank if I am not going to use the boat for a while, or just top up with fuel next time I take the boat out?

Mal.
