Shark Shield subsidy
Submitted by paulbazza on Mon, 2014-02-17 09:21I see Mark McGowan wants to offer a subsidy on the purchase of shark shields.
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/21500029/shark-shields-safer-than-drum-lines-labor/
I wouldnt mind a subsidy on my epirb, life jackets, flares, marine radio.........
They should place signs along the entire coast "use at own risk!"

G'Day
Submitted by Stevie on Mon, 2014-02-17 06:00G'day all
Thought i would drop by and say hello, I have been reading the forums for a while now and decided it was time to sign up.
My girlfriend and I have recently arrived in Perth from Scotland and I am looking to get involved in some of the amazing fishing you guys have out here. I used to fish back in Scotland but it was mostly freshwater for Pike as the seafishing around where I lived was generally rubbish! I am a keen lure fisherman and while I don't mind bait fishing every now and then i personally believe there is nothing like the buzz you get when a fish attacks a surface lure, it still makes me giggle like a kid.
Starting the long process of upgrading my gear as i don't think most of my stuff from the UK will be up to task, not to mention it is still bobbing around on a container ship somewhere.
Would quite like to meet a few folk to go fishing with so if anyone wouldn't mind some company either shore fishing or has a boat and would like a deckie, I am more than happy to pay my way. I am house trained
would just need a few pointers with the tactics out here. I work offshore on a 28 on/off rota so on my time off would be available for midweek fishing.
Tight Lines

monkey mia - squid on the weed banks?
Submitted by randall df223 on Sun, 2014-02-16 19:48Anyone fished for squid on the weed banks off monkey mia? I am wondering if it is worthwhile stopping on the way out and trying for some squid to use as live bait.
I have only tried squidding a couple of times off monkey mia, and only caught one :(
I know there are good squid over on the denham side, but its a bit impossible to keep them live on the drive back to monkey mia! :/
What are your experiences with squidding at monkey mia?

Thevenard
Submitted by fab on Sun, 2014-02-16 14:20Just wondering if anyone has been to thevenard since things changed a little, with the chevron miners using the majority of the cabins? I know you can still get one of the bigger cabins. Is Drew still working there? Great bloke!!
Is the games room and shop still open to the fishos? We were going every year, untill they stopped hireing out the smaller cabins as there are only the two of us. If all goes well, we may get a few more blokes together and hire out a cabin and share the cost, as they are $575 a night now.
Any feedback would be awsome. Cheers Fab

Karratha water in fuel
Submitted by pale ale on Sun, 2014-02-16 12:00Got my boat serviced last week as it was not achieving full revs.
Went to the local service joint and first thing he asked "Where do you buy fuel"
I told him and he shook his head and said "Had heaps of boats lately with dodgy fuel from there"
So anyway, cost a bit more than usual to drain fuel system and service. There was heaps of water. Now I have 80 litres of shit fuel to burn in my VT
I always bought fuel at the place where most people do (not gonna name them, but we all know where most people go). Now I will have to drive into town and refuel after every second trip. Apparently Shell has the newest best tanks.

Fair price FADS & Marlin charters
Submitted by seaswirl on Sun, 2014-02-16 08:17Just wondering what you think a fair price would be to go game fishing for dollies and marlin for an 8 hour day off Rotto. All equipment and lunch would be supplied. The vessel is a 34ft Black Watch, licensed to carry 8 passengers. Could also do deep dropping if you wanted.

Juvi salmon in Peel estuary
Submitted by Auslobster on Sun, 2014-02-16 08:16When's the last time anyone's seen them? I used to have a ball catching fish from barely legal size on up to 50cm on softies/metals/minnows/poppers, in 4 or 5 different places, but haven't seen any over the past two years.
Can't be the water quality or pressure from the pros 'cause there's still lots of herring, skippy, and tailor around...would be a hoot having them come through during all this light tackle/surface lure fishing for whiting!

Whiting Lures
Submitted by jayce on Sat, 2014-02-15 21:26Gday all
I know there has been multiple threads on this topic and i have been reading through them for a while now.
Myself and a mate are just getting into whiting on lures and while its easy for me to get info because i can drop into oceanside or the likes while i am in perth my mate lives in Walpole and his closest major tackle shop is BCF in Albany.
Im chasing info on what whiting lures have been working for eveyone. Mainly poppers and stick baits.
Any info would be good.
Cheers Jayce

Pods (making your own) ** updated** ready for water test this week
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sat, 2014-02-15 19:04Hi guys
first post in a while, this FIFO don't leave much time for the internet.
my cousin is 99% set on a new Suzuki 115 for his tub and he wants to make his own ally pod, he is a body builder by trade, so the work is no probs, just the design and ideas.
1 thing that is set is the pod will be a full extension of the hull, just want to see who has done it, any probs or things you would change?
any pics would be great, it's going on a 17ft pacemaker or penquin half cabin( not 100% sure on breed)
looks like allboats are getting the nod on the motor/gauges/hydro steer unless you guys no better?
thanks to all replays in advance

Anyone keen on game fishing?
Submitted by Dicko on Sat, 2014-02-15 11:58G'day folks.
I'm wondering if anyone else here works 8/6 and is interested in some long days out at the FADs/canyon?
I really want a Blue Marlin but it seems if I'm not bottom bouncing, I haven't got many takers for deckies, and if I do get one, they're bored after an hour of trolling.
I've caught the sails, tuna, marlin and dollies etc up north, but really keen to crack the Perth scene...
I'm also keen to dive out there if anyone is up for that as well...
I get home wednesday night, PM or post if interested.

Nasty Accident in Freo Port
Submitted by Jason P on Sat, 2014-02-15 09:02Info taken from Fremanlte sea rescue:
Three people are lucky to have escaped serious injury after a 50ft steel vessel collided with them in Fremantle Port this evening.
The people onboard both vessels were very shaken, although amazingly unhurt. Rescue Vessel R100 responded and transferred a crew and salvage pump onboard the disabled vessel before towing it to Fishing boat harbour where it was lifted from the water. The steel vessel suffered only minor damage.
This is a stark reminder to always keep a good lookout on your vessel whilst underway, especially at sunset and after dark.

Mainline
Submitted by lachieH on Sat, 2014-02-15 08:35Just wondering if it is possible to change the mainline of an old fishing rod. The reason is that the mainline is I think about 20lb but am not sure and for bream and flathead it really needs to be about 6-8lb.
thanks
