Any jigging gurus like to offer their knowledge on a rod choice please?

 Looking for a rod to match a Talica 10 with PE4. Main use will be northern demersal fishing using mainly bottom baits, with a small amount of vertical jigging. Don't like parabolic action. Budget around $400.

Narrowed it down to 2 at the moment with out the luxury to view first. Tossing up between Oceans Legacy Adrenaline PE3-6, or Temple Reef Rampage PE3-6.

Any other suggestions or which way to lean would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Up in the bay for 2 weeks again with plenty of great people around 

Was our 18th trip and I have never seen it so busy as this year. The drive up was jam packed, everything was beyond busy. 
 

The weather was reasonable we had some really nice days and some days of wind in amongst it all 

One day had a storm cell like I've never seen before it looked like armegeddon 

We got into the golds again and some big ones at that, plenty of nice reds and everything else in between 

Our little one is starting to like fish and touching them, future decky I'm sure 

looking forward to a longer stay next year 

Just wondering if anyone can give some advice on where to fish out of port hedland. Up here for 5 days and today was glassy and tomorrow looks good aswell. I have a 5m quintrex and want to head out and get a feed. Wouldn't mind catching crabs or fish or whatever really. Heard you can get blue swimmers near the spoil bank?

looked on Navionics and there isnt much ground for ages. The old marker 24 has a bit and a lot of people mentioned that to my uncle years ago but apparently it gets smashed.

we are heading up to Kalbarri, SHark Bay, and Coral Bay in July next year. we are debating if we take our 4.5mtr runabout tinny. not sure if it is worth it, i would only be fishing on the inside of the reef in Coral Bay and im not sure of this fishing in the other spots with the tinny. the other sticking point is we are heading to Karijini so ill need to tow the boat through there unless i can leave it somewhere. any advise, thoughts would really be appreciated.

Got a mate heading to Broome at the beginning of September. Unfortunately for him his wife booked it and it is during the spring tides so not good sailfish or marlin timing.

I've used the search function but everything seems to be pretty old. Anyone got up to date advice? He likes all types of fishing so whatever is best. If he could do some bottom bashing but also have a chance at sportfishing that would probably be ideal.

Just a quick heads up if your in the market for an ali boat. I wanted this boat as soon as i saw it, ticked all the boxes for me, had it checked over - lets just say it has some serious "structural issues" (trailer requires electric brakes also but i didnt care about that i was still gonna buy it) After the dealer got my mechanics report he gave boat back to owner and now owner has it for sale with a different dealer. Only posted this cause i dont want a fellow fishwreckeder to get caught out with this one thats all.

Another tragedy on Mandurah estuary, ch 7 news tonight reported a man lost his life after it appears he fell of a house boat.

 G'day all. Will be spending a week at Shelter Bay (turtle 1&2 campsite) in August. Would love to hear from those who have done the trip as not sure whether we're underprepared, and if so how badly...Basic gist is 5mates, 3 fourbys and 2 tinnys. Vehicles are pretty well kitted out, trailers are in good nick but are still the stock standard 13"rim/road tyre setup, nothing heavy duty about them at all. Being the first leg of a 7week trip the vehicles will be fairly chock-a-block with fridges, booze, water, and food. Also will be carting 2swags, 2diesel, 2or3unleaded jerrys and fishing gear in the tinnys. Question is will that be too much weight for the poor little trailers to handle on the corrugations? 

As far as spares we'll be taking a set of springs, complete hub & bearing assembly, 2 complete rim/tyres for each trailer, as well as a bunch of nuts/bolts tie wire and all the basic tooling needed for run of the mill roadside bush repairs. 

Also what's the beach lunch situation up there? Have recovery gear but don't want to have to get snatched out each time.

 Looking forward to a few days in Kalbarri next week, waited until end of school holidays, easier to find accommodation and hopefully not soo busy?

It's a shame that Tangles has finished his Quad Bike Fishing Tours- I would of went every day!   Not going to drag the boat up there- just do some landbase fishing and chill out.

 Hopefully I'll get lucky and have some fun with some landbased Jumbo tailor.

Has any one had or know anyone who has had a new full wind screen custom made for a hard top boat? Preferably SOR. i have a SL26 with the half height glass and half clears, the sl26 also comes with full glass in the later models. I have done the full run around with manufactours to try purchase glass with no succes. Whittley dont make the glass themselves, i think it is made in NZ.

The reason i ask is i dont necessarily want just standard marine square pannels but more like the manufactoured spec with curved corners. Any help would be appreciated!

I was pleasantly surprised today after writing to the Fisheries and Tourism Minister a few weeks ago to again bring up the subject of short term fishing licences. I wrote to the Ken Bastion about this in 2015 and got some convoluted response that had nothing to do with the issue I’d raise and never followed up on it.

Below is my email and attached is the response which is pretty promising on the face of it:

I would again like to bring up the topic of the fishing licence structure in WA and how badly we are out of step with the other States and Territories. When I last wrote to the Fisheries and Tourism Ministers in 2015, gaining a WA fishing licence was still a manual process however within the last year this process has now been automated and aligned with DoT Direct so the public can now apply for a licence online and print out a copy for proof. There is now no resource impact on the introduction of a 3 day fishing licence in line with other States.

This is a breakdown of the fishing licences in WA:

Western Australia

Recreational Fishing from Boat - $40.00

Rock Lobster - $50.00

Abalone - $50.00

Marron - $50.00

Freshwater Angling - $50.00

Net Fishing (set, haul, throw) - $50.00

I've had a revised look at the other states and this is what you have to pay:

Queensland

No licence required unless fishing in a stock impoundment:

$10.00 per week

$50.00 per year

$36.00 per year if you are entitled to a discount*

New South Wales

$7 - 3 days

$14 - 1 month

$35 - 1 year

$85 - 3 years

People under the age of 18 are exempt from paying the recreational fishing fee.

I am a boat owner and on an average year I would take out approx. 12 friends and family who do not have a recreational fishing from boat licence (RFFB). They are never willing to pre-purchase a licence for $40 for a single trip out and we end up fishing under the bag limits for my licence. If WA were to implement a $10 short term RFFB licence then WA Fisheries would receive an extra $120 per year from my boat alone. When this is quantified across all boat owners to varying degrees this translates into tens of thousands of dollars of increased revenue that Fisheries WA is not receiving that can be pumped back into further research and initiates aimed at creating a sustainable fishery in WA as well as increased enforcement efforts targeting illegal fishing and crabbing

Country towns like Waroona, Harvey, Bridgetown, Dwellingup (the list goes on) are crying out for domestic tourist dollars especially after the recent Covid-19 economic disaster and the introduction of a 3 day licence would encourage more people from the City to visit and stay in some of our inland country towns to chase some freshwater fish whilst spending money in the local town and helping reduce the redfin perch biomass. Local tourism operators and tackle stores etc could use this as a key activity generator to encourage local tourism to the area.

I am hoping to find someone who is willing to take this issue further to implement a simple change to the fee structure in line with all of the other states which will be a win for anglers, local tourism and for the Department of Fisheries in that there will be an increase in fishing licences taken out bringing significant extra revenue.

Channel 7 news tonight had a good bit of gopro film showing a nice size GW investigating a outboard motor on the back of a boat of Carnac Island 

 Sometime before I left for Ningaloo in June, there was a discussion of the relative merits of both. As I now own both, I said I'd give an opinion when I had used them side by side for longer. I'd previously only used them out to 100m or so, no deepdropping.  Can't find that thread, so I'll start a new one.

To cut straight to the chase, in 300m,  the 9000 wins, IMO. NOTE--this is the just superseded model. And the Megatwin is the 1000 model, not the newer 1200. Start the two side by side in 100m , with just a sinker, retrieve speed is the same. Seaborg will "sound" faster, but has to spin quicker due to a smaller diameter, wider spool. When you really put the weight on, there are pro's and cons of both. The biggest con for the Seaborg is its habit of dropping back to low range when it warms up a bit--great, right when you are in sharking territory.   I got iinto the habit of winding flat out by hand when that happened., until the green -Hi- light came back on, then driving electric again. The Beastmaster just keeps winding fast, limited only by how hard you have the drag set. I've pulled up 23kg cod from 300m with both--the Seaborg went low range the whole way. With the Beastmaster, I "managed" it a bit, but got it up quicker. The spool friction knob on the Seaborg is larger and more accessible, handy for preventing back lash when the boat is rolling around. This is more important with this outfit, as it has the older style, longer, softer Daiwa Dendoh rod ( the orange one) so it is a bit more prone to that sort of thing. I like the rod, but you need to be careful with the bigger sinkers.

 Hi all,

I wanted to seek opinions, or better yet facts, for fishing spots with smaller examples of the target species. 
So if you were chasing pinkies with the whole burley and wait technique as an example, and you started to catch heaps of juveniles, would you be thinking "surely the bigger parent fish will turn up soon"? So basically if you were getting plagued by 30cm pinkies, would you normally stick it out and wait for Ma and Pa pinkie to show up, or from past experiences have you found they never really turn up, and you're just going to get plagued by the tiddlers for the rest of the session. 

this question doesn't specifically apply to just pinkies, I'm sure we have all had times of northern demersals, whiting, herring, even bream being in plague numbers, but struggled to find the bigger models. So the question is, what's everyone's experience on "the bigger specimens turning up" vs the small fry just harassing your fishing session.

It is envisaged that the on-call casual role would require approximately 2 x 3 hour shifts per week initially, although requirements will be variable.  The position would be suitable for a person experienced in seafood processing, including fish filleting, although any suitably qualified persons are encouraged to apply.  A knowledge of recreational fishing is desirable.
