What prop? 150hp Honda
Submitted by saltyseamen on Fri, 2020-09-04 13:22Hey guys,
A mate has recently purchased a Chivers Meridian 6.4 ali island cab with a 150hp Honda on the back.
At WOT it is reading 6500rpm. I feel that this is far too high?
The current prop is a 14 1/4x17 Solas SS 3 blade. Does anyone have a similar setup and are running different props.
I am thinking a 19 pitch may help.
Cheers.

The Missus caught this Stripey at Tantabiddi yesterday and decided to keep it for dinner.
Cut a gill to bleed it, left it in the motor well under a wet towel for about 15 mins then put it on the ice bricks in the esky.
Went straight in and back to Exe.
We were'nt planning to keep anything so did'nt have ice slurry in the Madfish bag.
Had some as sashimi while watching the footy and a pan seared steak with salad for dinner, delicious.
Both woke up at midnight feeing hot and flushed (not in a good way). Both ends working overtime - could use this as a colonoscopy prep.
We were going to go to the Muirons and Peak island today : best forecast since we've been here, but feeling pretty ordinary.
Was'nt the best fish storage but certainly not the worst either. I suspect that the little beggars fight that hard that they get hot and the muscle breaks down after death releasing histamine.
Any one else had this?

Is this a boat sale scam ?
Submitted by SpotHound on Sat, 2020-08-29 15:34
He wants to pay part in cash and part with gift cards (from work) and the boats "for a friend".
Seems a bit odd, but may be legitmate, I cant say either way.

Coral Bay
Submitted by sealure on Sat, 2020-08-29 10:05 I've never been much at writing reports but with the wind & swell up I thought I'd give it a try.
I've been incredibly fortunate to have fished this area for 13 consecutive years 5 weeks at a time, the last 10 years in April/May & August/September.
Red emperor have been my principal target & I've caught my fair share with the biggest just over 11kg.
In earlier years sharks were not a problem & those hooked were of reasonable size.
Not so any more.
last year in one 5 week period I lost just over 30 x 24oz sinkers.
I've been here 2 weeks & the score is 17 x 24oz so far.
All of the spots I have in the 60-75 meter depths which have always produced good reds are now inhabited by very very big sharks. In earlier years it was possible to get sharks to the boat, retrieve most of the terminal gear & see them off. These days that's impossible because of how big the sharks have grown. I now don't get to see them.
Another fisherman I know had been out 4 times at the time I arrived & had lost 20 x24oz sinkers.
Still another had tried chain links but found these did nothing to deter the sharks.
Another friend of mine has fished the 90+ meter depths on a number of occasions this trip & has had little problem but caught very few red emperor.
It seems like my days of targeting Red Emperor may have come to an end & I'll need to concentrate on the 90+ meter depths with the occasional red & the many other varieties found in those depths.
Anyone thinking of fishing lesser depths would be well advised to have a big reserve of lead.
I consider myself very fortunate to have fished Coral Bay at a time when the taxman was significantly less of a problem.

Recfishwest- Cockburn Sound Development Response: Snapper.
Submitted by Moking on Fri, 2020-08-28 15:53Recfishwest is bitterly disappointed that our persistent and serious concerns around any development on Cockburn Sound’s environment and fish stocks have been repeatedly ignored by the Westport Taskforce.
https://recfishwest.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/fish-kill-2-322x279.jpg 322w, https://recfishwest.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/fish-kill-2-768x667.jpg 768w, https://recfishwest.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/fish-kill-2-536x465.jpg 536w, https://recfishwest.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/fish-kill-2-460x399.jpg 460w, https://recfishwest.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/fish-kill-2.jpg 1152w" sizes=" 529px) 100vw, 529px" />Thousands of pink snapper died during 2015’s Cockburn Snapper fish kill – this cannot happen again.
Today Premier Mark McGowan endorsed the Taskforce’s recommendations for a land-backed port development in Cockburn Sound and committed $97.2 million to the next phase of the development.
The Taskforce’s recommendations were developed after a three-year process costing millions of dollars. Yet, despite the time and money spent, the Taskforce has failed to answer the basic question – what impact will a new port in Cockburn Sound have on the Sound’s pink snapper stocks and fishing experiences?
The Government can only make good decisions when they are presented with good information and the undeniable fact is the Taskforce failed to fill key environmental knowledge gaps which places a massive question mark around the quality of their recommendations.
Recfishwest is calling on the Government to quickly address the Taskforce’s shortcomings to ensure that Cockburn Sound’s future as a marine habitat and the future of West Coast pink snapper is not put on the line. Let us be clear:
While Recfishwest is not anti-development, we will always oppose proposals that reduce fish habitats and abundances or developments that restrict people’s right to access fisheries.

Flashback 2015 – Pollution thought to be the cause of hundreds of fish killed in Cockburn Sound
Cockburn Sound’s future as a marine habitat could be on the line here, along with the future of our West Coast pink snapper stocks.
The State Government can only make good decisions when they are presented with good information and the undeniable fact is the Taskforce failed to fill key environmental knowledge gaps which places a massive question mark around the quality of their recommendations.
What’s more, of all the millions the Taskforce spent in attempting to better understanding what the future looks like, not a single cent was spent on planting sea grass, stocking snapper or building new habitats.
The Government’s environmental credentials are now on the line after supporting the Taskforce’s recommendations without fully understanding the impact the new port will have on the environment and our pink snapper stocks.
How and where the Government invest the $97.2 million they have committed to developing this questionable recommendation over the next four years, will tell if they truly value the environment or whether, just like the Westport Taskforce, they prioritise economics over the environment.

The humble Kahawai (Australian Salmon)

Onslow Mud Crabs
Submitted by Piggy on Wed, 2020-08-26 12:16Tried the search bar with a little information but not heaps.
I wanted to know whether there was plenty of muddies in Onslow for the novice crabber. We are heading over to the mackeral islands in a few weeks and were considering taking a few drop nets up with us to plop in the creek systems either in the main creek or one of the 2 creeks a bit further north of Onslow. I have a 7m boat and wanted to know whether it was easy enough to get it up and down the creek systems or whether there was rocks etc that would give me dramas?
Any help would be appreciated, like I said we are novices and only want to catch a couple for a feed
Cheers

Kimberley Bucket List Trip
Submitted by Martyn on Wed, 2020-08-26 09:11Hi all,
My name is Martyn and I'm from Melbourne Vic. I am planning a trip to the Kimberleys and wanted to get an idea of what I can expect to catch etc.
I'm going to be staying at Berkeley River Lodge and was wondering if any of you have stayed there, What the boats and guides are like etc.?
I want to try to catch Barra but I want to look at chasing all other species I can while I'm there. I hope to be able to target other species on my bucket list like Coral Trout, Spanish Mackerell, GT's and Jewfish etc.
Any info or advice you can gie me would be really appreciated.
Due to lock-down in Victoria this trip has been postponed to end of March 2022 so there is plenty of time for me to research. I know the weather might be better later in the year but the cost goes up too much.
Thanks all and hope to hear from some of you soon.

Hit a Whale this morning- going buy a lotto ticket:
Submitted by Moking on Tue, 2020-08-25 18:53I was thinking twice about putting this up(grennies). But just as a warning to fellow boaties.
Heading out this morning from Rockingham ,my third solo drift fishing session.
Lucky not going fast as the condition early this morning were choppy- at exactly 8.3 mile thats when the speedo stopped, I hit a whale.
To say that it scared the shit out of me,is an under statement- huge bang. I'm in a 5.3 Stacer.
Just damn unlucky- whale wasn't on surface, but must have come up just as I was passing over it.
Got back- all good. Just had to clear all the junk/skin from speedo hole.
Off to buy a ticket tomorrow!

2 year and 11 month Pinky!
Submitted by Swompa on Tue, 2020-08-25 09:01September 2017 was the last time we managed to get a size Pinky on the deck and in that time we have had family fishing/camping trips to Shark Bay, Exmouth Gulf and plenty of sessions out behind Garden Island.
Well Monday was the day.
With forecasts suggesting near glass out conditions, my mate cut a Margeret River family holiday a few hours short and and picked me up and we headed down to Woodmans POint for a launch around 4.
We headed out to a spot between Carnac and Stragglers that we stumbled across last year and found skippy at. The wind and swell conditions were not as per the forecast so we popped a couple of his special sea sickness pills and threw some baits out and waited
and waited and waited.
hen I noticed his rod buckle over. He quickly jumped to action and after identifying the head shakes I suspected we were onto a winner. I removed the other three lines from the water and prepared the net when it appeared. Calmley he moved to the other side of the boat when the fish was on the surface and i slipped the net under the fish and a great deal of cheering, man hugging and high fiveing followed!
We were absoloutely thrilled to land this fish which came out at 73cm and 5-6kg.

We lasted until around 6:30 when the breeze started to swing and a few bigger swells were creeping over the reef. Well, more so, i asked my mate if he minded if i have a spew and he objected so that combined with the conditions changing decided that we move on.
Quick trip down to Harding rock which was too busy then over to Sulphur rock where we threw the pick in and cooked up some hamburgers for dinner. DIdnt get a bite.
Final spot was over to the D9 dozer where the sounder was showing huge amounts of life though all we got was weed.
Generally I dont mind being outfished by my kids and today was the same where I didnt get a bite after 4 hours on the water! Very quiet evening though very happy and lucky to have something to show for it!

New shop in perth
Submitted by still trying on Mon, 2020-08-24 13:06Hi guys went to road tech marine in cannington on Saturday as I lost a reef anchor and was really impressed with the amount of stock they have prices were comparable to whitworths some things cheaper some things not but overall pretty good stoked that they are so close to where I live. Staff were clueless but eager to help give them afew months and they might improve or just hire people with an interest in boating. I know that they are not a site sponsor but they have opened 2 new stores in Perth.

Saturday Snapper
Submitted by Pob on Sun, 2020-08-23 13:04Awesome little solo trip out from Two Rocks yesterday, didn't take any bait or burley to force myself to just use jigs and plastics, just finding nice looking ground and drifting through. Managed my first sized snapper for the year (haven't been out much), must have pretty much cast the plastic on top of him. One thing I noticed is when I was using the tiger baku Baku and kohga jigs as soon as I drifted into sand patches almost straight away hooked up to small flathead, going to be using that when the demersal ban is on to target bigger ones. Plenty of skippy around too. Not too many people out, think everyone was at the D9
