shark bay in april

hey fellas

goin up to shark bay in april with the rents and were staying at a rental home in denham for 2 weeks (anyone else goin up this time?)

keen to get into some BIG mackies, which is probably gonna mean taking the boat (preferred than off rocks) to steep point. (are sails common at the point or are they hard to entice? it'd be a good exp to get one)

trouble is weve got a trailcraft freestyle 485 with a 120 litre tank and a merc 75hp 2 stroke with an ss prop (if that makes a difference) which dad reckons will do 1 litre per km and its a 100km round trip (not including trolling). wanted to know if we'd make it there and back with some trolling in between (will use livies if we have to)

has anyone had any experience with that are up there as i have a lot more to ask (eg do you go close to the cliffs or is it too dangerous/busy with rock fisherman?)

if this is too far are there any spots in denham or mia (we will def be going there on the bad days) that are better or just as good as the point

p.s. ive chucked in some pics to make it worth the read, from 09

also i hope i havent missed anything as this is the second time ive wrote this as it didnt post before!

pps or is it pss? met up with a guy named JOHN 2 years ago (about april) and keen to see him again as he said he was an annual up there! anyone know john?

thanks rob

Ever Wonder why Electricity Prices are Going Up!!!!

Weed Weed Weed

I headed north to Moore River country this morning and arrived just before daybreak. The water was fantastic with a moderate westerly. Unfortunately there is a shit load of surface weed clumps all the way up the beach. Not those small annoying clumps, the big sods that make sure you braid is well loaded on the reel.

I mananged to snare a feed of Herring but it was really hard work and something you would only do if you droves as far as I did that early in the morning.

I wouldn't expect the weed to shift while winds are as they are so don't be suprised if you encounter the same from shore based over the next few days.

Cheers,

tohatsu starter problems

hi,

my starter is catching when i give it a little tap with a hammer, but then it will not go any further. does this mean i need to replace the starter motor. how much are these?

This will Dhu it for today I guess.....

After having my deckie get sea sick within 15 minutes of lauching yesterday and so bad I had to return, I managed to get my arse out again today and it was new ground discovery mode as I've never actually fished off Ocean Reef before.... beginners luck!

Got these kids before the rain came in. think that was getting them going.

Took my usual deckie and his misses out too. She trumped him! That'll be a sore point for a while!

Heaps to small Snapper everywhere. Couldn't keep them away! Almost like flys! Least they are breeding well.

sounder problem

i just bought a hummingbird sounder 596C and it is great when stopped to going just forwards but stops working when travelling over say 5- 8 knots, by not working i mean just reverts to 0.5 feet and does not show anything.

It could be a setup problem, though i have tried working that out. I am asking if my transducer is located in a good place, and if not where should i move it too please.

and we wonder why the Japs keep plundering world tuna stocks!!!

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/giant-tuna-fetches-record-a394000/story-e6frfku0-1225982555820

quote:

A GIANT bluefin tuna fetched a record Y32.49 million ($A394,105) in Tokyo today, in the first auction of the year at the world's largest wholesale fish market.

The price for the 342kg tuna beat the previous record set in 2001 when a 202kg fish sold for Y20.2 million ($A245,027), a spokesman for Tsukiji market said.

"It was an exceptionally large fish," said the official, Yutaka Hasegawa. "But we were all surprised by the price."

The massive tuna was bought and shared by the same duo that won the bidding for last year's top fish: the owners of Kyubey, an upscale sushi restaurant in Tokyo's Ginza district, and Itamae Sushi, a casual, Hong Kong-based chain.

Reporters thronged Hong Kong entrepreneur Ricky Cheng after his big win, which reflects the growing popularity of sushi around the world, particularly in Asia.....

Mixed Bag off Canal Rocks

Got out early, and they were a bit picky. Picked up a Queenie, Nannygai and Blackarse then the wind changed sharply to Nor'west.

That's when the Dhuies came on the bite .  Tim's Big one weighed in at 16kg

The other fish were good size around 500mm.

The smaller Dhu I'm guessing 6kg and 750mm

All bagged up ready for the freezer 6kg of fillets and wings

crayfish scenario

Gday all

Over the weekend I thought of this scenario in regards to cray fishing as Im sick of losing crays to divers. Almost everytime i go to rotto i find divers sitting smack bang in the middle of our pots and as much they tell me they are looking in out pots why cant the dive on another part of the reef. (i kow im not the only one that this happens too)

While they are underwater they cant be seen and therefore could raid as many pots as they want but we as pot pullers are limited to 2 (or four per boat if there are two licenses onboard). What i was thinking was pulling mine and my mates pots and if we havent caught our limit diving on his dads pots provided he isnt coming over. but isnt diving on these pots the same as pulling them  - so why cant i pull them instead?

POXY TOONA

The tiny white dots, about the size of a pin head, were all through the fillets on one of the Toonas from yesterday. Never seen it before, but then I've not caught heaps of them.

Anybody have a clue what it is ???

Hot New Plastics!!!!

Hey all

Well i just recieved a range of mega strike 9" shads in the shop, to say the least they look fantasic. The qaulity in the plastic is unreall and the colour range is awsome. They come with 3 in a packet and a Weedless hook for dropshot rigging the plastic. I gave one a quick flick yesterday to check out the action they have and it looks the goods. They look like a 9" version of a snapback which we all know catches fish. Heres a pic

The top plastic is a mcarthy 10" jerk to compare size

structure

This might seem silly but I just wanted to check to me this is structure but the wy the sonar picks underneath it kinda makes it look like a mushroom this is from a raymarine A70. its not just a big dam piece of weed right ? :)

guildford basso

Outer barge for sambos today

We went to the closes fads today to see if anything was biting after we got some live squid to use to no success, but the guy trolling next to us got something, not to sure what it was. So things might be looking up over the next few weeks.

After that we headed out to the outer barge, only 1 boat there setting there jiggs up. So down we went and instantly hooked up and got broken off.

In the next 20mins about 20 boats ended coming from the north barge, obvious not getting sambos or just getting sharked.

Everyone on everyboat was hooking up no problem at all they were taking anything, and we only seen 2 sharkings all the rest were boated easily and speared back.

We used the rest of the live squid, which we think got taken by sharks. Everyone was boating the sambos one after the other. Tripple hook ups everywhere as you see them pull the fish on board as well. We got plenty which all went back except one.

Was a very good day at the barge with no sharks around.

Dont mind the bloke with the gloves, pussys ayy.

good day for us

myself, my oldest son troy and my mate maz went for a fish today for the first time since the ban finished,

the plan was to get some live squid and hit the fads!

got out to the fads and nothin touching the livies so while out there we went for a jig as well.

glad we did with hookups on every drop, troy gets the biggest for the day and maz's not far behind, while mine was a tad smaller.

no shark problems for us today.(every boat out there was hooking up and there was alot)

we only stayed out there for a couple of hours as we wanted some better fish to eat.

only down fall while out there was troy highsticked my monster mesh rod and snapped a foot of the end(not happy jan)

tried a few spots back in a bit shallower only to get a big blackass and some other shit.

headed in to a spot i have in 28mtrs and troy pulls in his new pb jew just over 8kg, on a 100g knife jig.(jaggy prick)

all in all a good day for us for a change. in weather that was a bit lumpy

cheers

Hmmm work

Hmmmm my work has decided to stop me posting anything on here i can still look at the site but if i try to post anything it automatically logs me off. dose anyone else have the same problem? ps i dont spen a lot of work time on here.

Favourite jig colours

I know that this question is like asking "what is your favourite food", but I need some assistance on some of the more popular demersal jigs and in particular, colours that have served you well.

In particular, the FANKY jigs seem quite attractive to me.

Regards

Chris

launching success harbour

do you have to be a member of fremantle sailing club to have access to the boat ramps at success harbour? any feedback appreciated, cheers

is my roller tip stuffed?

hey guys, never used roller tipped rods before but I've decided to go a stroker with roller tip for some jetty shark work.

the rod in question is a silstar crustal blue stroker, and i strapped my 50w on with 24kg line, and proceeded to tie the line to the pole and harness up to correctly adjust the harness for the upcoming season,

when i was putting drag from the reel, i notices a very unsmooth noise of line going over my roller tip, after a few times the line was way scuffed and eventually busted off. When i inspected the roller, it did seem to roll fine.

so my question is, is the rubbing of the line happening because the angle of the line coming out from the rod is too verticle? if this was to happen in a normal fishing environment where the line would go out at a more horizontal angle, would this be happening?

is this a common occurence when loading up rods with roller tips?

any healp greatly appreciated thanks

Big thanks to Rockingham Sea Rescue

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone at Rockingham Sea Rescue for towing us in after the steering went on the boat.

Great job, cheers guys.

howd every one go?

so howd we all go over the weekend?

we headed north of lano sat and sunday  with the weather being rather average sat we targeted some tailor boating 22 fish (18 released) were average sized 35 ish cm. then sunday was an absolute gem of a morning headed out to the 20 m mark ended up boating 2 baldies and 6 dhuies in under an hour then came in (once again released fish) fish were average size round 6 kg dhuies and 4 kg baldies also droped a 18kg + fish 2 mt from the boat due to my lasieness of not changing a severly chafed leader.
