Towing brackets Needed?
Submitted by Superfish on Sat, 2021-01-23 19:21Hi Guys
Just purched a new 150 HP Mercury and there is no towing bracket like i had with my old Eevrude . The new 150 is 206KG with the old Evenrude coming in arruond 140 to 160KG. That is fair bit more weight on rear end of my rebuilt Voyerger GHIA incuding a beefed up brand new transon when i bought the boat three years ago.
Mercuy advise using an accessory outboard support devise. There is diagram of a devise that staps the middle of the bottom leg to the trailer.
Mercury also have note of IMPORTANT: pointing out. Do not rely on the poer/trim tilt system or tilt support lever to maintain proper ground clearance for trailering. The outboard tilt support lever is not intened to support the outboard for trailering.
Just wondering if you guys have come up with a safe way to secure the motor for trailering as Mercury dont seem to have anthing to offer in the way of of a standard bracket for this pupose.
Thanks in advance for any help with ideas on what to use?

Submitted by lurch on Fri, 2021-01-22 21:09We are off the exmouth late Feb and would like to have a go at chasing Ruby snapper. Can anyone tell me what sort of depths etc that we should be looking for or is more a matter of point & shoot? Any other tips with regards to weights, lines etc would be great thanks.

Swan river crabs
Submitted by Sea goat on Thu, 2021-01-21 21:02Hey guys. Was thinking of taking the nephews crabbing in the river tomorrow. Never crabbed in the swan before. Just wondering if there are any current warnings regarding algal blooms etc in place? Couldn't seem to find any current alerts but not sure I'm looking in the right place?
cheers!

Fish ID
Submitted by selthy on Thu, 2021-01-21 18:37Caught this just before Christmas. Was a good day out with 10 Sambo's, a nice King George, Yellow Tail Kingfish and 20 thumping sand whiting. At the time called this as a Sambo without a 2nd thought, however the more I look at the photo, it just looks different to the others we caught on the day. So, Sambo or something different?

Thoughts on boat power surge
Submitted by davewillo on Thu, 2021-01-21 11:20I had my newish boat out on the weekend - 315 Searay with 8.2L freshwater cooled Merc. Planning a trip to GI so I filled up the tank from about half full. Hadn't been out for 6 weeks following shoulder surgery so I took it for a rip from Hillarys down to Scarborough, varying from cruising speed to WOT to clean the hull off a bit. On the way back I had it cruising and suddenly it powered down and then back up again. Did it another one or two times and then ran normally from there on.
Any ideas of what may have caused the issue? Just concerned if I'm planning a longer run. Maybe a bit of moisture or just some gunk going through the injectors? Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Rigging up a Go Pro
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2021-01-21 07:22I've bought the Super Suit for my Go Pro and am ready to start filming a few of my spots to get a better idea of my sounder vs what's down there but obviously don't want to lose it in the reef.
I am thinking that I'll run the camera on some 100lb shock leader to a swivel and then from the swivel running about 60-100cm of 20lb leader to the sinker so that if the sinker get jammed I can snap it off below the swivel/camera? Is that what other have done or something similar?
Cheers JF

Rottnest - surrounding areas
Submitted by bradz on Mon, 2021-01-18 10:47Hi guys and girls
Happy new year to you all.
Was thinking of heading to Rotto tomorrow to try for King George and the smaller stuff out from Thompsons Bay. Considering the boat traffic over the past month do you think it would have been completely hammered and as such not worth the trip?

Service for Yamaha 150HP
Submitted by dowders on Fri, 2021-01-15 10:36After any recommendations NOR ( preferably Mobile but doesn't have to be ) for someone to do a service on a 150HP Yamaha 4 Stroke. Was previously using Ross's Mobile Marine and found him very good and thorough, however his messagebank says that he is not taking any bookings due to excessive work load.

Not surprising, after seeing the amount of sharks in the swan river getting reported on dorsal

Submitted by Silver Fox on Wed, 2021-01-13 10:58First day having some fun on Thursday Island resulted in this bad boy!. Was having a flick on the ferry jetty and had myself a braid birds nest. Whilst I was doing the detangle my lure went to the bottom and this is the result..... Not quite what I was looking for but having a go none the less. No fish to report of so far.

Margs River Fishing
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2021-01-13 08:20I'm heading to Margs in a fortnight and have never put a line in the water down there and hoping for some tips on fishing there in Jan. I've scoped out a few spots and have come up with the following ideas of what to target so am I onto the right path:
Gnarabup Jetty - squid, herring, skippy, whiting
Gas Bay - tailor
Marg Rivermouth - yellowfin whiting, mullas
Alexandra Bridge - bream, crabs and further upriver for reddies
Cow Town - squid, herring, skippy, whiting
Augusta Marina - herring, small pinkies, monster sambo (already tangled with this big boy and lost)
Cheers JF
