Herring Burley
Submitted by Alex15733 on Mon, 2017-10-23 17:38Hey All, I have fished for herring for a while using burley i make with Pollard,Burley Oil and water with a few oats but I feel as if my burley hasnt been working that much as i need to bring the herring to me because im fishing from shore im using this rig Burley Cage--60cm of 12lb mono--Mustad bloodworm hook. I Use maggots as bait but im running low at the moment so need to catch me some more herring for the farm. The only times ive been succesful is when im there at the right place and time but still only get 1 or 2.
Is there any changes i need to make to the rig and burley recipe tips
Thanks Alex

Abalone only on Saturdays
Submitted by Grey Ghost on Mon, 2017-10-23 07:55Clearly fisheries don't want anyone taking abalone nowadays. With the amount of people, like myself, that either work on Saturdays or have kid's sports on Saturday (AM), there wont be many out there taking them. Very unfair, IMO. Maybe they should have a registration (or voucher) type system where you get 4 opportunities to fish during the season and you need to register online before you go out. If you are taking abalone and haven't pre-registered it is deemed "fishing without a licence". Would be fairer on everyone

Boat Security
Submitted by Tim on Fri, 2017-10-20 21:48Hi All
Just wanted to advise you that there is a heap of boat related thefts happening atm. Have had my transducer taken from the boat in the last couple of days.
They didnt even look in the boat so they were targeting transducers. Cops suggested that this is reasonably common as they can be disposed of quickly.
If you are getting offered a cheap transducer with a really short cable maybe think that it has come of a fellow fishermans boat and let someone know.

LED Trailer Lights and Electric Brakes
Submitted by The Saint on Fri, 2017-10-20 12:19Hoping someone may be able to clear this up.
My trailer lights are starting to leak and need to be replaced.
Was considering LEDs, but recall reading somewhere that they can create problems when used on trailers with electric brakes.
Can't remember what the actual problem was that they supposedly cause, but since reading that article I've never of any problems so maybe an old wives tale (is that sexist to say these days ?).
If you are running LEDs and electric brakes have you had any problems ?
Any info at all appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Advice re outfit for mulloway fishing
Submitted by chris1108 on Fri, 2017-10-20 09:08Looking for some advice re the line to spool my new reel with.
I'm getting a Savage Gear 7' Roadrunner and a Stradic FK 5000 today for river fishing. Going for mulloway and bream mostly. I haven't done any freshwater fishing yet, but have been planning for it over the last few weeks.
I just want to ask, would you spool this up with braid and use a mono/fluorocarbon leader or just go all mono with a heavier leader? Thanks.

Moon phase and barramundi

And the winners are:
Submitted by meglodon on Thu, 2017-10-19 16:41Come on down messers,
Jason Knowler, caught interfering with others cray pots fined $10000 and lost boat, gear, trailer and rec licence for 12 months
Ashley Jones, Lance Jones (father & son combo)caught taking abalone outside allowed hours, Jones Snr fined $600 Jones, Jnr fined $800 and both ordered to pay $180 costs.
Daylen Nathan failing to mark lobster pots with ID, 4 counts of pinching lobsters from others pots and 1 count of interfering with another's pot. Ordered to pay $1000 mandatory penalty plus fined $4500 plus costs of $180.
Kevin Sexton being in possession of more than 2 pots, fined $2500 plus $180 in costs.
All the above cases and perps were reported on the front page of the Coastal Times newspaper this week together with a big story about how Fisheries are going to burn your arse if you come down to Mandurah and take more crabs than allowed or under size crabs.
A highly visual display to those who seek to plunder our fisheries which we are custodians of for our kids, grand kids and future fishers.
Well done again fisheries.

How to avoid the wrasse
Submitted by br3nno on Wed, 2017-10-18 18:24Been catching far less whiting and much more wrasse lately. I use a burly cage with chook feed and fish in 5 - 30m of water, could the burly be the cause? They seem to be everywhere!

Changing an over head rod to a spin rod
Submitted by aiwoz on Wed, 2017-10-18 17:34Howdy all,
I have a Live Fibre Texalium ZWS70MST 15kg over head rod surplus to my needs.
Could I remove the first couple of guides to make it a spin/cast rod to suit a Saragossa 25000?
If so what guide sizes would you recommend?
Cheers

Once a diver has 'TAKEN' a lobster can he 'UNTAKE' it?
Submitted by Alan James on Wed, 2017-10-18 16:25This is a question I have been pondering for some time now after following the progress of the Bret Carter case. Evidence from the court case stated that the Fisheries interpretation was that a lobster is 'TAKEN' when a diver places that lobster within a catch bag.
"... Fisheries Officer Demir stated that her understanding of the legal obligation was that a fisherman must only 'take' eight rock lobsters daily. The officer confirmed in her opinion, the rock lobster is 'taken' when 'you have captured the animal underwater and placed it into the catch bag ..."
So can a lobster become 'UNTAKEN'? My first thought was no based upon the Fisheries view that the act of TAKING a lobster is complete once that lobster is placed in a catch bag. That would suggest to me that once that act of TAKING is complete that act becomes irreversible as it is in the past and any subsequent action such as releasing a TAKEN lobster doesn't cancel or negate the original 'TAKING'.
