Green Head Space Junk
Submitted by Chinbald on Wed, 2023-07-19 19:33As a rec skipper that fishes the Midwest to Exmouth coast in a 21 foot glass boat, I hate to think the damage that would occur from running into the 2m x 2m metal cylinder that washed up at Green head. A decky mate came across an oxy/acetylene cylinder bobbing off Wedge while on a cray boat that would of been very ugly to come across at pace. We often wonder what happened when a boat goes down and space junk doesn't normally come to mind.

Any deck space available
Submitted by brown364 on Tue, 2023-07-18 17:35Fella I knows son. If anything available , let me know and I will put you in touch
Is there anyone up here looking for a deck hand, that maybe going out for the day, that would be happy to take him? Or you know a mate up here that is?
He has been out deep with me in our own boat plenty of times, and has very good sea legs, is capable and doesn’t get crook at all the shit head!
He’s just after the fun and thrill of fishing up here, you’ll get to keep what he catches, and he knows how to help clean a boat.

Mid range bottom bouncer recommendations
Submitted by sstevee on Sat, 2023-07-15 10:13Hey all
Looking for some opinions on some mid range bottom bouncing rods. I've been rocking a beauty of a $15 broomstick for years now and whilst it's not pretty and cops a few laughs it's still caught fish. But thinking it would be good to have something 'nice'.
I'm looking for something that will cover me for demersals big and small and the odd trip away with the potential for some bigger models or sambo by-catch. Possibly some jigging in there too. I've got a 5000FJ Stradic to go on it for the moment but would think about putting something slightly bigger with a max of 50lb braid at some point (if needed).
I'm partial to one piece rods in the mid 6ft range and have looked at the following. I thought I was set on a Daiwa saltist hyper till I picked up a Demon Blood which I got a little smitten with. Definitely has me considering the extra $100. I've got vouchers for the big blue shed shed so will have to come from there.
Daiwa Demon Bloods - Either the 6'3" PE4/5 or the 6'4" PE3/4 - tossing up between the two weight ratings
Daiwa Saltist Hyper V2 - Something like the combi jerk 6'4" PE2-4 or Hiramasa 6'3" PE4/5
Also briefly looked at the option of a T-curve 200 or a Terez which would probly be the 6'9" 40-80lb
PE ratings on rods have me stuffed too. Depending on the type of braid the lb rating can change dramatically. Why not just rate it with lb??
Anyway, I've clearly enjoyed looking at all the fancy tech and options so keen to hear from people who have actually used them!
Cheers!

Upsizing Pinkies
Submitted by rac on Fri, 2023-07-14 13:12Interested to hear from the more experienced snapper boat fishermen around metro waters.
Would you expect to find a 50+cm pinkie in amongst 42-45cm fish, or if your catching those smaller fish is it best to use your time moving on and finding new ground, on the basis that that the school will all be a similar size? It's good for confidence catching and releasing those smaller guys but it could also be telling me i'm in the wrong spot and need to move on and keep searching.
I guess if you have gone to the trouble of setting up a burley trail you'd stick it out, but if I was drifting with SPs there's nothing really lost in moving on..
Cheers.

Southern Garfish Ban - Review
Submitted by Ush on Thu, 2023-07-13 12:25Gday all,
is there any word out there on the potential lifting of the ban? Its been 5 years. Appears to be tonne of them whereever I go. Calls and emails to Recfish and Fisheries unanswered as usual.
Surely they'd be looking at a review shortly?
Perhaps a reduction in the bag limit as they did with Herring - that'll help.

Land Based Rod/Reel options
Submitted by timboon on Tue, 2023-07-11 22:39FW Crew,
I hope this finds you well....
It is the time of the year where the wind blows its arse off and the boat remains dry, I thought I'd head for the stones for some ballooning etc etc....
I want a threadline reel and rod to suit, something that can handle a Kingy or Sambo....
I've git what used to be regarded as the best you can get in a Sabre 670 but thats 7ft and over head.....
I want to be able to cast placs etc.....
I'm not interested in the top of the wazza gear, something good value that will do the job....
Cheers legends

Kalbarri fishing
Submitted by Damage82 on Sun, 2023-07-09 13:04Hi all,
Heading to Kalbarri in August, searched the forums and already got some spots to possibly go and try.
I did see on FB that you can catch squid in Kalbarri? Has anyone ever done this or know where I should point my rod?
Oh and landbased only.

Knots when casting
Submitted by tcarroll on Sat, 2023-07-08 07:27Wondering if there is something in particular that causes you to get knots in your line when casting? I have a Daiwa aird 5500 paird with 50lb braid that I use for throwing lures and even baits a decent distance from shore.... without fail every session, at some point I'll end up getting knots in my braid when casting which usually result in me needing to cut the braid at the knot which is a real pain in the ass..... is there a known reason why this would continue to happen so frequently?

Waeco repair Perth
Submitted by flangies on Thu, 2023-07-06 11:13Hi guys
I have a fridge that keeps freezing over and drawing way too much power. Does anyone have any recommendations in Perth for a repair?
I'm fairly certain the thermistor is the issue but I'm not an expert.

Cray tipper
Submitted by brown364 on Wed, 2023-07-05 21:18

With an ageing crew, it was time to throw a winch and tipper on the thunderbird. I wasnt keen on cutting handrails or putting perminant block/winch type set ups on so with the inspiration from Lil Johnny and his recent conversion I came up with and executed a plan. Now it needs to be tested. Feel free to throw any feedback this was if you see something that I maybe havent. Needs a little tidy up with endcaps on beams bolts trimmed etc

Fishing locations between Karratha - broome
Submitted by oldsalty on Tue, 2023-07-04 15:34Hey everyone,
Found myself in Karratha with six weeks of free time before being booked in at locations south of here, can't complain, want to head up to cape leveque and back but am very unfamiliar with this patch of coastline,
Looking for any info on where to stop on the way for a week or so? Or stuff at Dampier peninsula ?Got a 4.5 m tinnie with a 50 on the back. Anything I'm looking at booking is obviously a bit short notice, point Samson booked out for a while etc
Got a third wheel for beach launching but the missus has no idea (new to the ocean), boat ramps be handy,
cheers guys,

Trailer Brakes
Submitted by Swompa on Mon, 2023-06-19 11:13Howdy Folks,
Gave the Tezzas trailer a service on Saturday which was primarily spray everything rusty with Lannox and replace the bearings though suspect my brakes are suss and am seeking advice.
It is a dual axle Tezzas trailer holding a 3t boat with Hydrastar electronic / hydraulic setup on it. Totally foreign to me.
When the trailer is jacked off the ground, the wheels dont really free spin with ease due to the brakes being pretty firm against the hub. One of the, if you try to spin the wheel, it will only do one rotation before stopping.
I did wonder if there was some sort of electronic emercency stop that when there was no power (not plugged in) that it applied the brakes though I threw a laser thermometer on the hubs (where the brake disks touch) and three sit at 30 degrees (same as the external of the hubs) and the one with tight brakes is 60 degrees after a 30 minute drive....so it doesnt go away when the plug is plugged in.
Hydraulic brakes are new to me and the box on the hitch that seems to have hydraulic fluid in it along with a battery has a test button on it, which, when i press 'test', says 'recharge'. The 12v battery in the breakaway system is showing 12.7 volts.
Do i need to go to a trailer manufacturer? Brake specialist or a a mechanic? Or is there a simile thing I can do?
I have a Redarc brake controller on the car and it works.
Please be kind....
