Expression Session at Flat Rock Today
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Sun, 2012-02-26 11:32I met up with The Supervisor today. No.. it wasn't a sacking.. Just a really enjoyable morning where his two boys teamed up with my boy (the dog) to let off a bit of energy. It also required a bit of old fart energy as well. Tailor didn't really fire but the sharks and the rays were in full swing. A great chance for us both to show off the pulling capability of graphite rods. Rod had his new Lemax out and I was on the eupro.
Everyone hooked up. A couple of lost chances, I managed an "unstopable" and so did my friends up the beach. All good stuff to test the rod capabiliities etc. A couple of manageable rays were landed and released. Two black tip sharks landed and released also. One small and the other a good 1.3 meters at a guess. 1 Tailor and a good size Herring.
Thanks for the day Rob. Great company mate.
The picture I took turned out crap bacause of the sun position. No photo of the month chances there so they go in the bin.

exmouth fish thief...your on notice
Submitted by fishy fingers on Sun, 2012-02-26 09:54If your the thieving arsehole We caught filleting under size coral trout and snapper etc at the exmouth marina filleting table on wednesday, I have reported you to fisheries and given them all your details, your description, your car etc. you give yourself away with your attitude when we arrived at the table and your very hasty retreat with your frames and half filleted fish thrown into your ice box and driving away very quickly.
we didnt let on then but we knew what you were up to, I'm sure you were over the bag limit too as you threw quite a few handfuls of frames into your ice box before running away, a lot more than 7 fish.
for everyone else I will post his details here shortly for you to keep an eye out for him. some of you exmouth locals will possibly know or know of him but I would like to hear from adam whether I should post his details first.
Adam if you want to follow this up pm me and I'll send you my number
I understand your a fisheries officer am I right?

For the regulars
Submitted by Graeme76 on Sun, 2012-02-26 06:25I've noticed quite a few threads lately about behaviour on the forum & I see some of the regulars posting about how they are sick of seeing abuse & negativity being posted. I find that quite amusing seeing as it is those exact same regulars that put me off this site in the first place with all thier negative comments, that's why I havn't posted for a couple of months & why I'll go back to not posting again right after this. I'm not lumping all the regulars in this heap so please don't misunderstand me, it's only 6 or so of them that seem to think they can post whatever they like but that they also have the right to tell others off for posting similar or less offensive things. Maybe Adam should take a closer look at past posts when (if) he gets the time & get rid of these regulars that think thier way is the only way & get stuck into anyone that has a different opinion to thier own. Just because you have been on here for a long time does not give you the right to talk down to other members & if Adam is aware of who you are perhaps he should stop cutting you slack just because you are a regular.
& for anyone that doesn't know once your kicked off the forum it is your IP address that is blocked so unless you change that, your gone for good. There's none of this joining under another user name crap.
I'll see you again if those few regulars that think they are better than everyone else get booted or pull thier heads in.

Anyone else noticed??
Submitted by Graeme76 on Sun, 2012-02-26 06:10That the upper reaches of the river are not worth fishing for at least 2 weeks after Swanfish? I've been fishing the upper reaches for over 10yrs & have them sussed out to the point where I can almost guarantee getting into plenty of good fish but for 2-4 weeks after Swanfish the fishing in the upper reaches is terrible. I'm not a butthurt Swanfish competitor, I've never been in it & I don't plan to go in it at any stage but I am wondering if the benefits to the community are outweighed by the obvious negative effect that it has on the upper sections of the river. I can't comment on the lower sections (Maylands to Freo) as I don't fish them often enough to an opinion about Swanfishes effects on those sections.

Hartail
Submitted by sambo24 on Sat, 2012-02-25 23:00Right. SO I've heard a bit about hartail (if you dunno what they are google it lol) and my question is, did they ever exist in WA or do they still?
In an ID book I have it says they are widespread along the southern coast from southern NSW to SW WA. I searched fishwrecked for any info but there didn't seem to be much.
Any thoughts?
Cheers, Sam.

Dissapointment at the river today
Submitted by wangler on Sat, 2012-02-25 18:50Went down to the river today with the kids, while down there this chap turns up with a bucket, and in that bucket was a cast net. I sat back and watched, then walked down on his 1st cast to ask " Is it legal to use cast nets in the river these days ?" knowing it isn't.
And this was the reply to justify useing a cast net. " I've been fishing in the river since I was a kid, and I put back all the undersize black bream, when all those asians keep everything."
He was after live bait for mullaway ie small mullett.
Wow, I was thinking, he's clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed, and dissapointed at his comments
This chap was mid 20's at a guess, but could clearly see him shaking and getting flustered as I was standing next to him. There were no abusive comments passed between each other, stabbings or shootings etc on this occassion
He was in and out within 10 mins, thankfully with an empty bucket.
One day the law will catch up with him

First metro tailor..
Submitted by sambo24 on Sat, 2012-02-25 17:37Hey guys,
After a few tries I finally got my first metro tailor today. Not huge by anyones standards (went 42cm) but kept him for a feed anyhow along with a few good size herring we got as well.
All caught in the middle of the day, on pieces of prawn, on 4lb bream gear from a parked boat in a fremantle marina. Great fun and no fuel used.
Additionally we got dozens of pink snapper which would have gone about 20cm, was pretty surprised to see them in the harbour at midday.
Also got a black bream but he was a little under and they're not my favourite fish to eat anyhow.
Cheers for reading guys..

4 way hookup
Submitted by JohnF on Sat, 2012-02-25 17:23Crazy 4 way hook-up on Bonito today with only me and Daz in the boat........lines going everywhere, got 3 in the boat, the 4th was dropped right a the edge of the boat. Pretty frantic time with trebbles flying about everywhere, crap picture but we were still rolling around laughing!
What is the fish exactly? I presume Watsons Leapin Bonito, any good to eat? Flesh is quite white and firm.

New to the forum
Submitted by BigClarky on Sat, 2012-02-25 11:16G'day All!
I am new to the forums and just wanted to say hello!
I owned boats most of my life, dabbling mostly in trailcrafts. I just recently purchased a 660 Off Shore Quintrex with a 200hp suzi with all the fruit. So I am getting back into my central & north west jaunts and over night off shore adventures of rotto.
I look forward to uploading some reports and good photo's for everyone!
Look forward to meeting you guys out on the water!

things you find in your travel's **finished pic added
Submitted by fisho-ron on Fri, 2012-02-24 22:28for those who know, i get around the metro/country areas a bit in my truck.
on one particular day while on a job i spoted this s/s bench....mmmmm....... the eyes lit up!!
so i had to ask...how much for that?
well to my amazement the bloke says to me...its yours, take it.
before he said take it, it was on the back off my truck on its way to a new home.
so on the long drive home i had to come up with a way of getting it under the patio, ok'd by the wife, because there was no way a fillet table was guna be there??
so, i come up with the family bbq theroy and how good it would be for entertaining, but i had to fit a front to it because we get alot of dust out my way with the easterlys.
a cople of weeks later i made some hinged door frames, plumb the sink in and were off.
now i have a 3mtr fillet table under my patio, next to the bbq and the beer fridge, what more can a man want???
today i got the front panels and started to glue them on and just had to share.
the writting on the front panels is just a protective cover and will be removed to show a brushed ally look.
edit;
finished it off this morning.
might put a tea towel holder in the midle mabe???
also note the added scale catcher in the sink!!!
cheers ron
p.s, my cousin got a nice 1mtr tuna out at the bank this morning, so it will get a work out today already

Mindarie boating
Submitted by Boppo on Fri, 2012-02-24 11:49Thinking of heading out from Mindarie tomorrow. Swell looks around 2.5m so was wondering how is the safest way to head out through the reef systems. Usually fish out of Two Rocks but haven't fished out of Mindarie for a long time. From memory I used to pick a spot just south of Staggies reef and gun through there but am older and I suppose more cautious these days.

Has anyone targeted Broadbill of Perth?
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Fri, 2012-02-24 09:46gday
firstly before i get thrashed for asking a question that may have been asked in the last 4 years -i tried looking on the search function -and got some pretty interesting results - "loading" and "gone with the wind" -was all that came up.....?
So -was interested to know if anyone had targeted or caught broadbill in Perth - i have heard of the odd random capture but was really interested to know how far (trench?) you would have to go to find them -
a Bluewater (magazine) article a few issues back showed a really effective looking (and easy) set up used to catch them - a night out on the deep blue would be interesting and am sure you would need to pick your weather but would love to do it whilst the weather is warm
any insight appreciated
cheers

quick arvo troll
Submitted by grayzeee on Thu, 2012-02-23 21:23hey guys
well , had the opportunity to go for a quick troll off OR this arvo and try to get into some metro mac action
headed out with some jet heads wired up and ready to go
half an hr in , and we got a tap . turned to look as we thought it had picked up some weed , then this bloody shark mac jumped on for a second go.

threw that back in , and reset
another half hour , and this little fella hit the shotgun way out back. Dave was stoked to get his first mac (of sorts)
he went back in as well
plenty of bird activity and bait balls getting harrassed , but no spaniards for us as yet. water nice and warm at 25+ deg

still , good to be out, although it was fairly lumpy.
next time.

Snorkling for Crabs
Submitted by Goodz on Thu, 2012-02-23 21:17Just wondering what you guys think is the best time of the day to snorkle for crabs? I would presume morning or arvo as the crabs would be generally hiding more so in the middle of the day hey? I've been out a few times in the arvo lately and gotten a few but they seem hard to find... I'm thinking maybe early morning there would be more out and about still?
Also... anyone that's snorkled for them before, do you think you find more in the weed or sand?
Loveeee snorkling for crabs, most fun way to catch them :)
