Who's planning a fishing trip?
Submitted by randall df223 on Tue, 2012-02-21 18:22I have got two coming up soon.
Last two weeks of March, taking the wife and kids to Monkey Mia for two weeks. This has been a regular family holiday for about 6 years now. Stay at the caravan park at the resort. In the past we have tented it, this year we are hiring an a/c van that will be set up upon our arrival. moor the boat in front of the beach and spend days fishing around faure island and in the outer channels. Beach and pool time with the kids, Monkey Bar at night. Great family holiday and a bonus if we we get ourselves some pinkies, blue bone, or estruary cod. A couple of years back I even got myself a rankin. Going to try some serious soft plastics and elevator jig heads this year, and the misus will have her trusty handline (and probably out fish me!).
Then in May, its a boys only week at Steep Point. At our camp, three in by car, three in by boat. Two other camps with a boat each. total three camps, three boats and about 23 blokes! Lots of beach, rock and boat fishing, trolling for macks and tuna, bottom bouncing for trout, bladies and pinkies. Probably copious amounts of beer consumed back at camp of an evening, and we'll do it all again the next day. Ahhhh, heaven!
Who else has got a trip planned?

Safetybay black bream
Submitted by CURT on Tue, 2012-02-21 16:07Hey guys, this morning I was standing on the jetty at the bent street boat ramp in safetybay waiting to retrieve my dinghy and I saw a big black bream about 40 to 45 cm. Cruising along the pilons. I have seen them at the point Perron boat ramps but to see one in safety bay was a spin out, as it is just one small jetty and so far from any estuary or river. Has anyone else seen black bream this far into the ocean?

Submitted by black gen on Tue, 2012-02-21 12:05just a question about swapping face units between two boats. i was wondering if me and a mate both have navman sounders, they are different models, can i plug mine into his boat using his cables?
we both have the power cable and the cable running to the transducer, is it as easy as just plugging it in and it should work??

Estuary sharks?
Submitted by collin g wood on Mon, 2012-02-20 23:47Was crabbing in the Madurah estuary the other week with my wife and 2 dogs on board, between runs we were throwing the dogs fave toy into the water for her to fetch n swim back to the boat, just as I was about to throw the toy once more I noticed a large surge in the water and then saw a shark jump out of the water not more than 20 meters behind the boat, at first I was unsure then my wife said " did you see that" 100/sure it was a shark, checked out pics on the net of bull sharks and pretty certain that's what it was, no more swims for me or dogs in the Madurah estuary.

Abrolhos visitor guide
Submitted by jdavies_99 on Mon, 2012-02-20 22:44In the west coast region recreational fisheries guide it refers to an "Abrolhos visitors guide"
As is usual with the Fisheries website you I cant find a blimmin thing on it so was wondering if anyone knew a link or had a pdf of it that they could send me.
Their website is exactly like their rules, written down in the back corner of somewhere that is ambigious and difficult to find.

Rotto Swimmers Need Boats
Submitted by gib77 on Mon, 2012-02-20 21:56Hey Guys,
Sorry not fishing related, but if any of you out there with boats, are at all interested in helping, theres a few people that have been training to do the Rotto Swim(this weekend)and have had the support boat pull out, as thus wont be able to do it.
These people are prepared to pay for any expenses, and are quite desperate. If you look on the website www.rottnestchannelswim.com.au/forum and check people and equipment, you will find. I did the swim and we used my boat last year and its a pretty cool day to be involved in. Ive just agreed to do it for a solo swimmer. Not everyones cup of tea, but you got to take your hat off to them.

Good day with Whitey today.
Submitted by cudbfishn on Mon, 2012-02-20 21:35Got up this morning early at 12:30am, on the road by 1:15am.
Cousin booked a charter with Whitey out of Jurien so it was going to be a long day.
After some shennanigans with the rest of the blokes coming out we were finally on the water heading out to some ground. First stop was to get some livies. After getting a few on board Whitey said it was time to troll for some mackies.
Well the bite was hot. They were jumping everywhere out of the water attacking the lures. The result was all 5 lines going off all at once, only 1 got off and 4 were landed. 10 mackies were landed in around an hour so it was time for some bottom bashing.
Well the first 2 drops resulted in 2 Dhus for me First one being around 8-9kg (est) and the second being 10kg (weighed) as well as my cousin getting about a 5kg pinkie all on jig. Well it was an awesome start to the morning.

It slowed a little after that with the end result being 5 Dhus, 4 Pinkies, 2 Baldies, a Goat Fish, a Black Bum and the 10 Mackies.

Big thanks to Whitey for an awesome day out!!!

South West Pelagics
Submitted by lovemefishin on Mon, 2012-02-20 20:24I remember it was about this time last year when marlin, sailfish and mackies were being hooked round Duns and cape nat, has anyone heard any reports so far this year? I dont know what the water temp was like last year compared to this year but i heard it was pretty warm around eagle bay over the weekend like 22+ degrees? Is that too cold for these northern pelagics?

3 mile maccie on the cheap stuff
Submitted by JohnF on Sun, 2012-02-19 14:41Early start this morning with deckie Chrisp, only to be greeted by very average conditoons and lots of weed.
We put a good spead of lures out, nice range of quality lures on quality outfits, and what did the fish hit.....the cheapest lure in my bag (Williamson el cheapo) on the cheapest rod ($40 Shakespere Navigator special) and reel ($80 Okuma Titus T10) I have. On 10 kg mono, it put up a good fight with the normal fizzing first run but goes to show you dont need fancy gear to knock over macs.
We gave up early due to the strong easterly and very sharp chop, happy with a mac on ice for dinner tonite.

Who has been axed may I ask?
Submitted by crasny1 on Sun, 2012-02-19 10:08I have read with trepidation some of the post and cringed because of females and youngsters on this site.
Supposed to be all about helping and fishing photos, Not slamming and swear words. There will always be opinions like on the boat etiquette post, but nobody getting angry, just posting their view, and thats fair enough, Just because I skin a cat in a certain way doesnt mean how others do that is wrong, We all end up with a skinned cat.
But just for information who was canned because I had my eye on a few.
