had a win with overnight / weekend parking for my car and trailer
Submitted by rigpig on Tue, 2015-10-27 15:22I was concerned about leaving my Patrol and new boat trailer at the boat ramp overnight down Rockingham way so I made up flyers asking people if they would like to earn some easy money by having my car and trailer at their house while I'm away at Rottnest. Put them in peoples letter boxes whose houses I thought would have room and only one street back from the boat ramp and got a taker. Agreed on a good price and its on for this weekend. No more stressing that some lowlife is going to smash my windows or steal my trailer etc. Not conventional but hey, it worked. Lets just pray the homeowner doesn't like my tyres and rims more than me!!!!!!!!

guns
Submitted by tangles on Tue, 2015-10-27 13:57for those guys that own firearms on here can you please tell me what is the minimum size property that you as a land owner are allowed to discharge your weapon on?
If you have a 2-3acre property with neighbours right next to you can you legally discharge your weapon on that property?
Me thinks no but I would like to know from those guys who would know more about this. Tks tangles
Ill mention more about why when I get some responses. Tks guys
EDIT. THREAD CLOSED AT TANGLES REQUEST.

Wind Advice
Submitted by PacittiR on Tue, 2015-10-27 13:12Hey guys
First time poster got a quick question thinking of going for a flick in Rockingham either tonight or in the morning. Weather forecast is for a south westerly wind tonight and an Easterly in the morning, in your experiences which would be the better time to go have a crack?
Cheers!

Abalone rules
Submitted by Tarpon on Tue, 2015-10-27 11:19I would apprecaite it if anyone can advise re: abalone rules.
Intend to go out in season to our non-sanctuary spot at Rotto to get our crays and also snorkel for abs on the legal days between 0700 and 0800
Do I then have to return home before 0800 and drop of the abs and then go back out in the boat or is it OK to leave the abs on board (unshucked of course) and come in later
I have called Fisheries who are unsure
Anyone with experience in this I would appreciate your advice
I don't want any hassle from fisheries with the kids in the boat
If its too hard I'll just leave the abs alone
Regards
R

Coral bay - next year
Submitted by ChrisG on Mon, 2015-10-26 18:01booked into coral bay end of March next year.
"was" keen to try it after several years off Exmouth.
I managed to shoot up here this week for a couple of days snorkelling and will maybe catch a charter...
I've been speaking to lots of guys with boats and all have the same opinion in that it's very hard work to catch a decent fish without heading out 20 plus miles....and even then most are really struggling.
with this im pretty concerned that I should go to Exmouth again instead next year.:.but I've already done my dough on accommodation so coral bay it is?
Any thoughts/comments/advice?
also, which is best and safest for people inexperienced in coral bay waters - south or north passage?

Cleaning Iron Bore Water Stains Off Fibreglass Hull
Submitted by AHarman on Mon, 2015-10-26 14:19Just thought i'd let everyone know Starbrite Hull Cleaner worked a treat getting some iron stains off the gel coat of my hull - which had baked on due to heading south with work for a fortnight after wash down. Don't normally plug products, however, was dubious it would work, and it came good! Left it on for ~5 minutes (wouldnt leave any longer - uses oxalic acid) - did three rounds of this (washing off between). Then proceeded to wash/wax and re-polish the gel coat....... Wont be making that error again!
Throwing the book at them
Submitted by Starbug on Mon, 2015-10-26 09:36Looks like they his this guy hard! Should be more of it!

Thieving Scumbags
Submitted by Ebbie on Sun, 2015-10-25 10:31So my electric winch started playing up and besides the fact that its slow and needs power and cables etc the gears were jamming and was starting to annoy me. So I bought a new manual trailer winch and got ready to install it when I go outside my house and see my electric winch and winch plate gone!!! They not only stole the winch but even worst the winch plate also the scumbags...... Only plus is that I didn't install the new winch already.
Just pissed off and annoyed.

Custom built popping rod
Submitted by Bunny on Sun, 2015-10-25 10:29Personal build this one for my upcoming coral sea trip (still one spot open folks!).
Samurai Pop 12, 7'6" with custom EVA grips and metal trim rings around the Fuji reel seat. Fuji Titanium K frames with SIC rings and metallic threads which really sparkle in the sunlight.
Final rod weight is only 410 grams (284 rear section and 126 front). Very happy with that.
The missus kinda spoiled this one when she called it the Cow rod due to the grips. I hope I'll actually catch a cow dogtooth on it!!

Stella 10000sw 2011 model- Advice
Submitted by Rambo 72 on Sun, 2015-10-25 08:42Hi all,
After some advice. Looking at 2nd hand mint condition Stella 10000sw to take to the Montebellos next year. Can I use it down here for bottom bouncing for dhu's,baldy's etc also? The ratio is 5.8:1.
Would I be better off with the 8000sw with ratio 4.9:1 ? Don't want to spend that much money on a reel if it's not suited .
cheers in advance.

Tasmanian moving to Perth - Help!!
Submitted by Hell Bent on Sun, 2015-10-25 07:03Hey All,
Well life has turned upside down and inside out for me recently and I now find myself relocating to south of Perth!! As most of you are, I am a fishing nut and hanging out to get over there and sample what WA has to offer.
I have trolled the internet and now have a rough idea of what I may encounter. I would also love to hear from anyone who can offer some info on their favourite fish and locations to help me target my efforts in the coming summer months until I find my feet. I will land there in early December, will have a 4WD, 6.7m hard top Barcrusher and just about every bit of gear to target any fish on the planet.. So I am pretty flexable. Love my flyfishing and will do this as a preference but it really doesnt matter what weapon I am holding as long as I am on the water..
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Concrete for craypot ballast?
Submitted by len85 on Sun, 2015-10-25 06:18Hi All,
Not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but can you use concrete as ballast for craypots? Have had a search online but found no reference to it. I know it wouldnt be as dense as steel but would the smell/feel of it deter crays?
The reason why, is I was having a think about putting together a few pots from some timber I have at home and the B store on the cheap. Paddle them out in my kayak at the end of the week and pick them up Mon/Tues. As distance is obviously a limiting factor this would mean they're in relatively close and accessable by boats, so if some thieving bugger decided to take them it wouldnt piss me off as much as if Id shelled out for pots and run around getting annodes etc. Was planning on pouring a mini concrete slab and cable tying/wiring it to the pot.
Cheers,
Lenny

Steep point setups
Submitted by laney87 on Sun, 2015-10-25 04:37Hi all,
Heading up to Steep point for the first time in March 16' and cant wait. Just chasing some thoughts on my ideas and if any of you experienced fishos would recommend anything different
- I have a Phleuger salt 80 with 65pd finns, will the reel be too heavy for spinning all day teamed with a nice graphite 9-10ft rod? (its about 740gms I think)
- I also have a 12ft Phleuger Crank 20-30pd graphite.......with a nice reel could that work for a bottom bounce/ballon dual rig???
Been doing a heap of research on here and i see there is alot of different opinions and experiences so all info is muchly appreciated
Cheers,
Laney

Annoying Cray Pots
Submitted by Deckie on Sat, 2015-10-24 19:53Hi folks, I have a request for all those who have or know of anyone that has placed their pots on the North or South Leader Lines into the coastal marinas.
We were out today on the Rescue boat & found a large number pots have been placed along these lines.
I'm not sure if people realise how difficult it is to negotiate through these pots when heading west into a late afternoon sun.
If that is not hard enough, but returning with a boat in tow trying the same thing is near on impossible.
Getting a rope tangled around a prop or shaft can be dangerous for both boats, especially when the anchor must be dropped to prevent drifting onto the reef.
So speaking with my Sea Rescue hat on, can I please ask everyone to help us out & avoid dropping pots on these leaders, it is our only way through the reef especially at nite for a rescue. Finding a boat out there is difficult enough without the added danger of worrying about ropes.
Good luck & enjoy your Cray season, but lets keep everyone safe......

New Reel, but not anymore
Submitted by Jason P on Sat, 2015-10-24 16:49After been going through a tough year, was able to pick up a new FK stradic 2500 with some gift cards for my birthday.
Was feeling great about it till one of my little tackers decides to hand it to me while setting up the rod and then drops it straight on the tiles.
Now it has a flat spot on the spool lip.
Honestly it does my head in, can't seem to have anything nice without being damaged in some way.
Rant over. :(

Advice on a couple of old reels
Submitted by sackshaker on Sat, 2015-10-24 07:04I don't think this topic is gonna excite anyone here but I have a couple of Penn applause reels that I need some parts for.
One is an 8000 and the other is a 4000. They both still work but need the same part.
I tried BCF (which is where I origanally bought them) but they didnt seem too interested. I know they are quite a cheap reel but they've had a lot of use and I quite like them.
If anyone has some spares or could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
Cheers Mick

Dunsborough Fishing
Submitted by NewPerth Fisho on Fri, 2015-10-23 11:27Hi All,
I am taking the family to Dunsborough in a couple of weeks and will be towing the boat down.
Its a 4.75m Quintrex Freedom Sport and was wondering if anyone could possibly point me in the right direction to try and get the family a feed.
Conscious of the demersal ban on at that time so hoping for some KG Whiting etc.
Also any tips on bait etc.
Thanks heaps in advance.
