Yardi Creek
Submitted by trepangdua on Sat, 2021-05-01 08:18Hi all.
Heading to Exmouth next week. Is it worth heading over to Yardi Creek with my 18 foot Quinny for a family cruise?
Can you fish in the creek? Is it worth running a small lure?
Thanks in advance

Submitted by hezzy on Fri, 2021-04-30 05:34have to wonder if this is a random attack , or a croc that has been conditioned or learned where food can eb grabbed from ??
given croc can learn prey/food behaviour and stalk their prey by observing its habits

rod/reel combo
Submitted by Sea goat on Thu, 2021-04-29 10:38Hi guys.
after a bit of an epic stuff up on tuesday i managed to loose my favourite rod and reel combo over board in 60m of water with what seemed a godfish atatched :/ had a seragosa 10000 with 50lb jbraid and rod was awesome. got in in exmuth 8 years ago, not sure of exact brand, think it was hornet or something. either way it was my top rod.. some epic language followed. lucky i was solo and a long way out!!
anyway, i need a replacement,so looking for advice. i really liked the seragosa...
will mainly be used for bottom bouncing in 40+m of water. tagretting dhues, baldies etc, but would be nice if could double for trolling or a bit of jigging.
im really not into broomsticks. would love something that has good sensitivity, and allows a bit of play, but needs to be strong.
will probably be putting 50lb jbraid on again.
as far as costs go, happy to go around $450 or so for a good reel, and prob up to a similar amount for the rod.
Would really love some suggestions as to what to start looking at.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers
Goat.

Submitted by black gen on Wed, 2021-04-28 10:47 Does anyone have a recommendation on someone, mobile preferably, to install a bilge float switch on my 5.5 genesis.
I have a bilge in currently, accessed through the screw hatch on the transom, works fine, i just want to make it an auto one i can leave on overnight and not worry about the boat going down when sleeping on it
I am in Atwell, any recommendations welcomed

Queenie two ways
Submitted by Silver Fox on Tue, 2021-04-27 08:37Tamara got a nice Queenie yesterday and this is how it ended up. Good old sashimi with soy sauce and a truckload of ginger and deep fried with a rice flour n cider batter. Added some of the essential fish and chip condiments with a non traditional being a deep fried dill pickle. The verdict was yum!.

Are fish disappearing?
Submitted by Tom M on Mon, 2021-04-26 09:29So for those of us that have been fishing for a number of decades are there any fish that you think have become harder to find or disappeared from a once popular spot?
I'll kick it off with Tailor off the beach in Warnbro Beach over the Chrismas period (Summer) Remember when there would be 100's people with gas lanterns alight fishing along there on Summer evenings.

Another big dhu on jig
Submitted by deep south on Sat, 2021-04-24 21:08Decided on an early knock off Friday and did a run out to some proven ground and first drift spotted a couple of familiar looking targets on the furuno , jig jig , hooked up on the gomoku and just couldn't stop it or pick it for that matter.
After 10 ofd minutes of chasing and trying to figure out the taker I was 100 % convinced I had foul hooked a sting ray due the constant thump thump on the rod tip so I made the call to lock uo the drag on the 5000 stradic , thumb the spool and give it shit no matter the result
After another 5 minutes all came to light when a solid dhu that went 23.2 kg surfaced 20 metres from the boat
Over the years I have bee fortunate enough to catch quite a few of these large specimens but This one took the cake for fight , with the jig completely swallowed and the leeder hooked under the pec fin this fish fought like no other

Worlds shittest deckie
Submitted by Silver Fox on Sat, 2021-04-24 20:41Took Tamara out for a fish today as the weather Gods are turning it on at the moment up here. Did well in finding some working birds, did even better at putting her onto a Wahoo about 1.3m long. Then things turned to shit. Got the hoo on board with high fives all round, spiked it and cut its throat to bleed it out then I fucked up. Had the ( what I thought was stone cold dead ) fish over the side of the boat and was bleeding it out when it gives an almighty kick of its tail and freed itself from my not so good grip and sloooowly glided off into the depths. No worries I'll grab the gaff and bring it back, gaff was too short ( now I know why people have stupidly long gaffs on board ) and the fish was gone forever. I contemplated jumping in after it and wisely kept my now blood stained clothes dry.
After convincing myself that this was a random one off event I got back onto the job of getting some fish into the boat. Ten minutes later a sold Spaniard was bought alongside.... Quick grab of the leader and a yoink to get it onto the gunwhale and grab its tail when it spat the Giant Trembler did a couple of flips on the gunwhale and it promptly went back to hang with its mates.
Faaaark me as Mr Rude would have said.
Moral of the story.
Use a gaff
Rope the tail when bleeding
We had a ball regardless of the shit that went down.
Weathers looking good for a chance at redemption tomorrow!.

Bait selection
Submitted by Tom M on Sat, 2021-04-24 09:30 Perfect weather on Wednesday good ground fish on the screen, fished with occy, squid, cuttlefish, whiting, herring and jigs for no return then caught a small sergant baker thought that looks likely bait. Seconds after it hit the bottom dinner for all. Just goes to show how selective they can be if not that hungry.
