Mahi on fly
Submitted by joelborg92 on Wed, 2021-03-24 16:44I had been speaking to kurt about chasing a mahi on fly and he loved the idea! We come up with a game plan and set out in his rig. Tough to say the least but we got it done. He's put together some mad pics and some real crisp footage! Have a look at the link. Big ups to kurt Wilson!

dunsborough
Submitted by Sea goat on Wed, 2021-03-24 09:48Hey guys.
dragging the boat down to dunsborough for the first time, and was hoping for some advice. was wonderingz;
1) is it worth bringing any crab nts down? was thinking of putting them in the shallows/weed beds, but not sure if any around?
2) will probably be launching form the marina, as checked out the quindalup ramp and seemed pretty shallow, so dont wannt get the car to far in the salt. was wondering if any reccomendations as to what depth i should be looking in. hoping to fish for the usual demersal suspects.
3) was wondering about trying the fads given the forecast, but am not familiar with the ocean down here. wind and sell looking good on the forecast, btu not sure what that would equate to in these waters, and looks to be a bloody long way out!
any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
cheers!

Fremantle short term (day) mooring
Submitted by selthy on Fri, 2021-03-19 17:14Thinking about a family outing tomorrow, with a cruise along the coast, stopping to chase some bread and butter species along the way and then stopping in at Freo for lunch. Is there any short term moorings in Fremantle fishing boat harbour? Ie. Can I pull up at little creatures or somewhere near Ciccerello's for a few hours?

hooley road beach access imminent closure hamelin bay area
Submitted by hezzy on Thu, 2021-03-18 16:48Hooley Rd beach access is being closed closed
just letting people know who fish etc on the hooley road /boranup beach that it is now being closed by https://www.dbca.wa.gov.au/ in the leeuwin national park , just north of hamelin bay
this should not imo be allowed to happen , if you want to help stop this please contact your local member or ministers etc etc if anyone can offer any help to get it stopped please speak up or pm … See more
they are citing 3 vehicle drowing down there in last few years as part of the reason for the closure , saying it is now a tourist safety hot spot ,,
along with it not being a beach that is gazzetted for vehicle access under the parks management plan .. vehicles have been driven on this beach since at least the 70s and earlier ,,,
if this goes ahead it will eb another one gone ,,and more will follow over time
needs to be challenged

Denmark/Peaceful Bay LB info
Submitted by Chevy68 on Tue, 2021-03-16 22:02Hey all! I am heading down to Denmark next week for 5 days LB fisihng. I have a 4x4 and I am quite capable off-road. I head down that way every year about this time to get stuck into Salmon and over the years I have fished most of the usual haunts. I want to expand my horizons a little and I would love to find some relatively safe & sheltered rock platforms (nothing risky!) for a change from the beach to hopefully get stuck into a wider range of species like Skippy, Bonito, Kingys, etc. Was thinking of heading out towards Peaceful Bay area, where I have never been before. I have read some older threads which mention some spots around there which sound promising. Can anyone share some worthwhile spots to try and hopefully a little detail on how to find them?
Thanks in Advance!

Gascoyne River
Submitted by smicko on Mon, 2021-03-15 23:14Does the river itself fish very well after it's had a flush like it has recently? Or is it still high and muddy?
Oh no- not again
Submitted by Ericl on Mon, 2021-03-15 19:53Wobby again, same pot and 3 crays in the pot again. Still not ready to try fillet them yet
Link to a little video showing 2 of the crays in the pot https://youtu.be/a6FIlxbct6s
At least ended up with 8 size crays for our trouble. Definitely taking them out tomorrow in what looks like possible glass off conditions

Rowley Shoals
Submitted by Bodie on Mon, 2021-03-15 08:40Hi All,
Chasing any feedback from anyone who has done a chater operated trip to the Rowley Shoals. We have agroup of keen fisho's who would love to get over there, mostly chasing sports fish. There are a handfull of operators who head over there, wondering if anyone has any info on their own experience, which boats would be considred the better charters for the fishos's (Not so much diving).
We'd be looking to book out the charter as we all have fairly similar preferences in terms of fishing so can run fairly smoothly on such a trip
Any info would b greatly appreciated.

Nominate the All Time Funniest Fishwrecked Thread
Submitted by Mick C on Sun, 2021-03-14 20:18I’m sure that most members remember “that thread” which “tickled the funny bone”. Fishwrecked has such a wealth of information about most WA fishing and boating subjects stored in its archives, and it time to showcase these with the theme of humor.
The Shore Catch competition for March 2021 is to nominate the funniest thread, for voting by members. Nomination can be by comment on this post, or pm to me. Threads will be reviewed and finalists will be listed in a Fishwrecked poll that will run over the last week of March. The prize (a quality boning knife) will be awarded to the member that nominates the thread with the most votes, and if multiple nominations are received for the same thread the winner will be randomly selected.
Please think back to the “classics” and have your say. The site search function works, so find the thread you liked the most and nominate it. There are some really good ones that deserve to be read again, by members new and old.

Outboard Service
Submitted by C.P on Sat, 2021-03-13 17:03Hi all - value your opinions
Its comming up to 2 years since i had my outboard serviced - 40hp Merc 4 stroke
but ive had a bung shoulder for 12 months and have hardly used the boat. Its about 22 hours running time since last service
Is it important to service the engine just based on time rather than running hours or can i clock up a few more hours before worying about it?

Ningaloo advice needed
Submitted by Pottsy on Sat, 2021-03-13 09:19G'day fisho's,
Seeking some advice from those that have been and conquered Ningaloo. I'm travelling across from Mexico (Wodonga, north east Vic) to camp at Point Billie and Nth Lefroy from the start of June 2021 for 6 weeks. I'm pretty sure the trip will be the last family holiday before my 18yr old (who cant be told) moves out of home. Anyway, I'm just trying to make it the most memorable experience he has in the hope he might want to continue fishing with his old man in the future! My other 16yr old young fella is pretty keen also.
I have read a lot on here from Ranmar (amongst others) in a vain attempt to learn from their experiences so I'm not wasting precious time blundering around. I've got a 4.65 Quintrex Renegade with a Honda 60. I've got most of the gear sorted (nothing flashy - Shimano Sustain in 5000 & 6000, 2 x Sargossas in 10000 and a TLD 25 and Tyrnos 20). Ive been stocking up on poppers, bibbed xraps, stickbaits, soft plastics and trolling skirts. I guess the trip is about ticking a few species off the bucket list with my two young blokes ie Spanish Macks, Mahi, Sailfish, Emperor and Wahoo (if theyre around this time of year).
Wondering;
1) Braid or mono for the Tyrnos and TLD and is a steel trace a must?
2) What sort or distance behind the reef (or depth) should I be trolling in and what sorts of speed
3) With the skirts, are there any colours, lengths or brands that work better than others (never trolled them).
4) will half oz jig heads be enough weight for around the reef and are the 5 inch jerk shads a goer or smaller paddle tails?
Not into harvesting fish to take home although I'll be looking for a feed every 3 nights or so.
Any advice that you can give would be hugley appreciated. If anyone is up that way at the same time, beers on me

John Dory
Submitted by nebbian1 on Sat, 2021-03-13 01:39I pulled this old guy up a week or two ago:
It was a fish I'd never seen in the flesh before. Since then I've done some research, and I think it's a bit rare to catch.
How special would you say that it was?
Caught in 20m off Gracetown.

New Boat Wrap
Submitted by Tim on Fri, 2021-03-12 16:48Just uploading a few pics of the new boat wrap and to share some positive reviews for some businesses that couldnt do more to help.
Had the design done by Allen at Titan Graphics after some great feedback from Jon Jarvis. Titan Graphics | Facebook
The team at AAA Windscreens and Tinting did an awesome job of the install too. Found out after they have an inhouse graphic artist that would have happily looked at a design for me. AAA Windscreens & Tinting | Facebook
So much detail in the graphic it is pretty full on up close.
