Has anyone here fished Kuala Rompin before? If so would be great if you could share your experience. Myself and some mates are headed there mid-September for 3 days fishing.

For those that don’t know, Kula Rompin is a small fishing town on the east coast of Malaysia, about 3hrs drive from Singapore (possibly more by the looks of the map!) Its renowned for its sail fish, with huge numbers and anglers getting into the double figures on a days fishing!

Look forward to hearing any reports and I’ll provide one myself on my return!

Just thought i would ask if any fellow FW members were going fishing in broome this weekend and had any room for a fellow fisho?? Weather looks magic and very hard to stay on land!!!!!!

I am a 30 year old aussie bloke up here on holidays and looking to go fishing. I have bought my own gear up here and have fished Eco beach and the jetty with no love!!! Not willing to thrown $280 to a charter company to lake me out to some pissy little reef and catch bait, as i am sure all fisho's have done before.

I have my own 5.5m boat  in Perth and would be more than willing to take you out and return the favour if you are down in Perth anytime. I am more than willing to pay for my share for fuel, ice etc. Not a problem. I understand the cost associated with fishing.

Hi everyone farley new to fishwrecked and thought it would be a good place to get some info, heading up to kalbarri in late september and just wondering if it's worth towing the boat up or not. Has anyone fished up there this time of the year and what would be the best thing to target on the boat, and is it better fishing north or south of the mouth. Any info to make my decision would be much apprecatied.

When we are fishing sometimes we will put out a small live skippy and I,m starting to think it keeps his mates around longer........any opinions on this...Or similar thoughts

Hey all am after some info, i am installing a led worklight to the back of my hilux and the light only has a black wire and a white wire coming out of it. Question is which one is positive and which negative. Being led is it as simple as the light will only work one way and not the other or is there a risk of damaging it if hooked up the wrong way. Having no instructions i would assume it wouldnt effect it.

 Hey guys just a little tip!! What ever you do dont forget to renew your recreation fishing license, I live up north and went fishing today, got some good fish and only kept two fish for a feed, a spanish mackreal and rankin cod and let the rest go. I pull up at the boat ramp and retreive my boat noticing the two fisheries officers, i think to myself.. yep im all good, fish are all size and well in my limit, until questioned by the officers. They themselves were happy about the catch, but when i produced my rec license  it was out of date...Myself i keep my rec license in my fishing bag wher and when ever i go fishing it is there nearly always once a week and always in my car ready just incase. So i have changed address in the past year and havent recieved my renewal and never spend time looking at my license.. So BANG.. My catch is confiscated and are in the running to recieve a $200 fine for not having a in date recreational fishing license.

 Now on i will remember todays Date as a birthday.. and make sure to remember my Recreational Fishing Liicense renewal every year as trust me, you look like a poacher when you got two fisheries officers note pads out and two heshn bags taking your catch out of you boat down the local boat ramp.. And me i'm a avid sports fisherman were i catch and release 90% of my catch, releasing fish after the catch is my best part of fishing thats what i enjoy fishing so much.. And are a storewalt for Fish For The Future..So guys just a little reminder for yous too.. have a quick check and see if your license is in date too, cause its not worth the feeling to come home after fishing not enjoying a great day out on the water.....when really you did..

The old boy next door to me has a Tinny and is after a cheap or used chartplotter - he saw my Hummingbird combo as was not even aware that the technology existed yesterday, and now thinks he has to have one...

I said to him I would put a post on FW to see if anyone had a unit they may have ripped off their boats and replaced or something, lying in the shed, selling for a few bucks...

What do the low end plotters cost that are okay? The Garmin and Lawrence cheapies look around $300-$400 but the screens are tiny. Are any of the cheaper ones any good?

Let me know if you have anything kicking around for a good price..... Complete please, as I will most likley have to fit it for him nd will become responsible for the setup...

Pommy here in peace..I am a total novice at fishing, i am living in Bunbury not been here too long and really wanting to learn how and where to fish. No boat unfortunately yet. Have fished a few areas landbased, catching little whitings etc...Born in Manchester city, i have very little experience with fishing, really dont even know how to hook up and just putting it out there to see if anyone is heading out this sunday that i could possibly tag along with and learn, get some tips from?

Finally got a smartphone. Is there any Apps that helps fishing. Have a Samsung Galaxy S3.

Just thought there might be some apps that can help. (Apart from the GPD deckying on your boats LOL).

I only ever fishes as the skipper so that particular app would only be usefull if GPS etc fails.

Just returned from Exmouth,and I'm looking for a new 4x4 auto diesel to pull my 6m platey. Loaded is a good 1800kg total.

Would love a 200 series crusier in my dreams, but I have to be realistic.My old 98 toyota parado 3.4lt petrol has 334,000km on the clock and I would like the torque to crusie at 100km on our long trips from Sydney.We struggle to hold 90-95km most of the time with the winds holding us down. The old girl has never let us down yet.But the fuel is a killer. I've five years till we retire, and a new set of wheels is to retire on would see us out.Do any of you tow long distance and with what?

Me and a heap of others are planning for a trip to Quobba next year and are a bit unsure of when would be the best time to go. ive searched through the function on the side and are gettiing mixed opinions. We are going there to mainly balloon but also for spinning and bottom fishing (so mainly the lot) the goal is to land a land based spaniard. ive heard that April is a good time to go and also November. i know that no one can predict the weather for a certian time of year but im looking for your opinion on when the best time would be to book in terms of easterly winds and when i have the best chance of landing a mack.

   Hi did a post about hire boats at exmouth. I dont have a skippers ticket .

   Being hearing impaired I am almost certain I would not get a ticket.

   Only thing stopping me is I would not be able to hear the radio to good.

   If this is the case would anyone up at exmouth be willing to take me out

   I will hire the boat for 2 days.

   Up there from the 1st of november till the following Wednesday.

   If the radio would not stop me getting skippers ticket any comments appreciated

The man known for kissing fish and throwing them back is concerned West Australian families will not be able to enjoy the experience of heading to the beach and throwing a line in.

The matter has brought him to Perth, where he will take part in a rally this afternoon.

Fishing personality Rex Hunt will join WA recreational fishers at a rally against proposals that plan to ban fishing in areas of WA's coastline.

Fishing legend Rex Hunt will join WA recreational fishers at a rally this week against proposals that threaten to ban fishing in areas of WA’s coastline.

The ‘Don’t Lock Us Out’ campaign by community group Keep Australia Fishing and supported by recreational fishing peak body Recfishwest urges fishers to protect their rights to fish in WA, while recognising the need for marine conservation.

Keen fishers and supporters are urged to join the rally by boat or foot at Langley Park in East Perth from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday, August 29.

Mr Hunt said it is time recreational fishers stood up for their right to fish in local waters and against the influence of international firms on local policy.

“Australians’ right to fish is slipping out of our hands. It’s time we stood up as a collective group and protect the future of recreational fishing for not only our generation but for our children and encourage the government to make a fair and informed decision,” he said.

Recfishwest CEO Andrew Rowland explained that international lobby groups are pressuring the Federal Government into declaring areas of the State’s coast marine reserves, or no-fishing zones, which threatens the livelihood of some regional communities and falsely labels recreational fishers as irresponsible.

“The campaign being spear headed by overseas anti-fishing lobbyists treats recreational fishers with the same regard as destructive activities such as dredging. If successful we will see popular fishing destinations like Geographe Bay and the Perth Trench locked up and inaccessible for those wanting to enjoy a fish with their family,” he said.

“What hasn’t been recognised is that recreational fishers have been, and continue to be, at the forefront of marine conservation. There is no scientific or socioeconomic data or reasons to suggest that recreational fishing has any detrimental effect on these areas and it’s important that the government recognises this.

“The decision to lock-out fishing families from these areas forever can and will have a long lasting effect on a number of regional communities.  We should be embracing fishing rather than restricting it because it brings significant benefits to these communities. This decision affects all Australians and I encourage the people of WA to show their support at the rally.”

Hi guys im at the mercy of you all please help!!!!!!!!!! the wife wants us to go out fishing on saturday along with our 6 year old son, the swell is a bit too high for me to venture out (newbie) so thought maybe put the boat in at cockburn (protected from garden island) since my replacement transducer/ fish finder is on its way to me from ch marine i need some areas to fish, please any ideas? i need almost a dead cert area!!!! (if they exist) just enough to keep them busy........... snapper/whiting would be good.. or even a sambo if the wifes on the other end!!!!!! i have navionics on my i phone and the gps still works on my northstar657 HELP

2.00-2.30: For the convoy, gather at Leeuwin Boat Ramp, Hillarys Boat Ramp and Bluewater Morley. Reps from Benbows will coordinate the Hillarys convoy, and reps from Bluewater Melville will run the Leeuwin one. From there you head into Langley Park along a prearranged route. For more details speak to the coordinators at each location when you arrive. Convoys will start at 2.30pm. Banners and signs promoting a positive fishing message or key messages such as "don't lock us out" are encouraged.

3.30-4pm: Arrive at Langley Park. Parking marshals will control parking on the park itself, follow their instructions. Bring cars, boats, dinghies, kayaks, jet skis, whatever.

4pm: Barbecue/sausage sizzle run by Getaway Outdoors begins.

4.15pm: Keep Australia Fishing Rally begins. Scott Coghlan will MC the event and introduce guest speaker Rex Hunt. Rex will be followed by Recfishwest CEO Andrew Rowland, Emma George and Jamie Chester.
(PLEASE NOTE: We need people to be on their best behaviour at the rally - no public drinking of alcohol and no tension with members of the public or opponents of the rally, just ignore any negative comments)

yeh its been asked before, so im starting a new thread.

i am looking at getting up on the mines...machine opperator.

i have my excavator, front end loader, hr, bluecard, e.w.p, forklift, cv, dogging and senior first aid tickets, all of these i have many years experiance in/on except the front end loader but i just cant get a look in anywhere.

any ideas, where to look, who to talk too???

 Heading to jurien late sept- after reading a few reports on here - most of the action is in the 50's-  ive had pretty good luck in the 20-30's but keen on catching some of the beautys ive seen posted (in particular fisho-ron's mullas and dhuies! )  have 16 ft ali, 2004 40hp mariner (3cyl) running rather well.  got 2 22l tanks onboard (45l) and another small 12l in the shed which ill grab a mariner fitting for taking me to 57L .

is that reasonable to get out the 16nm to the 50s, dick around a bit then get home?  im not sure of the economy but i was out the other day to ocean side of ffb, dicked around changed spots a few time, sounded around abit, fished round carnac for a bit and didnt need to change tanks until i got near harding rock inside GI id estimate i did around 25 NM before changing- does that sound right? 

for a total of 57 l i should get around 70-80 NM depending on weather?

any comments appreciated- and if anyone has hints on what to look for in the 50s... please send them in ;)

    I will be up at Exmouth for one week 1st november till 8th november. Looking to hire aboat up there for a few days.

     I dont have a skippers ticket what sort of size would I be limited to .

     Like to chase Gts and macks .

 I want to find some cheaper options for stocking up. But don't want to make them myself.   I've thought about buying online but imagine postage on sinkers would jack the price massively.  

In regards to hooks, what do you use?   I've got mustads, and owners.  Today bought some gamakatsu to try out.
