jurien report

With the boat loaded on thursday night, we were ready for a early start to head up to jurien and get a good days fishing in, my 2 boys Troy & Blake and myself on my boat and my cousin Gav and Matt(fishing94) on Gavs boat.

we headed out of the marina at about 10am, little bit lumpy, but with the forecast saying it was going to drop, we continued on, we hit the wreck first up to have a play with the sambos and they did not dissapoint, not huge like last time but good enough for some fun.

all sorts coming over the side, sambos, amberjacks, mullas, pinkys and a suprise for me on a fanky was this little cobia, went 70cm and was the first cobia ever for me so its a new pb!

the winds started to play the game and drop off, so we headed out deeper to the 50's, from the first drop it was on, with fish coming over the side on every drop, more sambos, baldys, pinkys, dhuys, redthroats and proberly some i have forgotton.

just on my boat alone we got 18+ dhuys, being we have a 60cm+ to keep they all went back bar one, but half were size.

by now its getting quite late and i said to the boys...last drop and were going!!  thankgod for that last drop because troy hooks up big time on the pe3 monster mesh with the 5000 stradic, this thing was making huge, long, powerfull runs and we are all calling it for a big sambo.

5 mins in troy is winning the fight and getting some line back on the nearly spooled 5000, then to our supprize this fat, 1mtr dhuy pops up and its yelling and screaming times allround

stoked!! new pb for troy at what we were calling 18-20kg and just over the 1mtr mark..

we went back in happy chappys with a good haul of fish for our bag to meet up with Karl(crushed) and his crew who had arrived for a late bash.

Saturday was going to be the big day with some more fellow members showing up, Luke(fishon570) in his new 680 bar crusher(weapon of a boat and bloody quick too) Jeffery and there mate, we will call him chucky for now!!...lol

Gav and myself headed out to the 50's, the other boys went there own way and by 10am we had bagged out on dhu's,pinks and baldys(i forgot the camera so no pics for sat) but again plenty of dhu's,pinks and baldys coming up.

to early to call it a day, so it was catch and release for the rest of the day for us.

back at the camp with all the boys and some of us took a liking to the bourbons, especially Lukes deckie!!

sunday morn it was a early start with us all going the same way to have a play with the sambos again, i had more fun listening to Lukes deckie throwing his ring up from the word go...sounded like a dirt bike at full noise (thanks for the laugh guys)

it was very quiet on sunday compaired to friday/saturday and taking jefferys advice we all put the bait away for about 30mins and persited with the jigs.

Troy hooks up a couple of sambos and blake and I were at 0, so to jeffs dissapointment we were back on the bait... first drop for Blake and he gets his PB pinky 70cm

second drop for Blake results in his new PB sambo at just over a mtr and give him a bit of a work out.

then i get a nice 1mtr sambo as well

there was a few more sambos and ambers pulled up until the boltcutters moved in, so it was time to try somewhere else.

we tried a few spots on the way back in with nothing but boltcutters everywhere, Blake even got a double header, so that was it and we called it a day, back at the ramp by 11am ready to pack up and head home.

all in all a great weekend for our boat, bagging out friday and saturday with many more fish released.

great to meet Luke, Jeffery(get some bait out jeff and put them jigs away mate) and there mate chucky, made it for a enjoyable time guys and we will have to do it again.

i hope chuckys felling a bit better now, 80%turkey-20%coke will do it to anyone!!

didnt get alot of pics as it was allways busy with fish coming over the side on every drop, we come home with plenty of kilos of fillets and makes the frezzer look good.

cheers

ron

Sidescan Sounder Recommendation

Got a mate chasing a sidescan sounder and transdeucer.  Can anyone recommend options and websites up to $1500 and the pro's and con's.  Also because of being in Karratha and postage associated with buying in Perth, he said he may as well look to the O/S option.

A couple of KG's

Me and TimVB headed out for a late arvo fish after work on Friday. Had good fun with some small sambos on soft plastic before I picked up a surprise KG on softy (a bi sambo tried to eat it at the boat....) and Tim pikced up a cracker 53cm KG.

Tim took them home for dinner......still have not heard what they were like..........

Shallow Sambo Jigging

Headout with Kane on his Trophy for a day as a deckie. I really enjoy the odd deckie spot as opposed to normally skippering my tug and this was no exception.

We all just wanted an arm stretching, so a day of jigging up sambos was the target. Kane supplied the boat, I supplied the sambo spots, and off we went early this morning. Apart from a terrible little Humingbird GPS/Sounder (soon to be replaced) the Trophy was excellent and rode really well.

First spot just as the sun popped its head up in 35 m, I went with PE2 gear, Kane and Troy PE3 and PE4. Secd drop, I land a nice skippy released. Next drop, bang, MUCH bigger.........no stopping this beast on PE2, and I was duly bricked for my troubles...........I grabbed the PE3 outfit, drop, crank, bang, on, and another big model gave me plenty on PE3. Not a bad shallow water sambo.

With the sounder being prety well useless and things going quiet, it was decided to head off to some deeper spots, and pretty soon 3 way hookups were the norm, with us landing plenty of small sambos on light gear. Great fun. Troy, who had never jigged before, got 4 fish in 4 drops, ncluding this little Amberjack. He was amazed how hard the little ambers go.

Kane got the 8lb bream gear out, but after 2 drops for 2 lost jigs, decided that was a bad idea! Back to PE3.....

Then me and Kane both hookup, and after a few minutes, my line goes slack and lost my fish and jig.....bugger!!!! Kane then complains his fish just got bigger.......huh.....then up cmes a double header for Kane, but on 2 jigs! My jig had been hooked by Kanes jigs, snapped my line, and then Kane brought it all in. Kanes fish fell off as he went to land it, but mine was stll there, on my purple jig....wierd.

On the way home we had another shallow jig, and landed a small dhu released, followed by the likely fish of the day. After about a minute on PE3, it bricked me, suspected donkey dhu as there were no big sambo runs, just heavy, short powerful spurts until he found his hole.

We ended up hooking a LOT of fish, only landed around half, and lost a lot of jigs, but had a ball!

Cheers Fellas.

Wilbinga Access

Hi all,

Heading up there next weekend for a short session with a few mates. Hopefully the weed situationi is not too bad.

I'm not going to have a chance to do a reccy, and as we are arriving before sunrise I wan't to make sure we don't hit any dead ends. I know I can get in via the grove reststop - does anyone know if you can get in via Wabling Rd or whether this is gated?

Cheers,

Buschy

True blue bones or peak sport fishing?

Has any one had any experience with these two guides, I cant fly fish but would love to get out on the water for some serious shallow water popping and plastic fishing on the westside. It would be a once in a lifetime trip for me and dad want to suprise him for his birthday.
Regards Colesy

launching a boat

Hi guys, my family and myself have relocated to yallingup. I was wondering if anyone can give some advice on where safely to launch a 5m fiberglass boat on your own if necessary? Tried launching from Quindalup, all most got the boat wet, before I got stuck in the sand with my territory rear wheel drive... Lol , wat a start..also any advice on where to head out to, to scout for good ground? Any input would be greatly appreciated.... Happy fishing.  Cheers Don

C maps

Hi, my dad has a Standard Horizon Sounder/plotter and it runs on Cmaps. He lives on a boat in Cairns. Does anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced C-maps card for the Cairns region or Australia wide?  Cheers.

Todays success

Had a fair bit of success today fishing many spots ranging from D9 to garden island and beyond, total score was 10 sized skippy, bucket loads of baby whiting, way too many butterfish and cod. was a pretty good morning, was up a 5 at the boat at 6 and in the water by 630, first drop earnt us a double header of skippy and the other 3 fishos hooked up almost at the same time, we were getting nailed by sambos while bringing the skippy up to the boat but didnt manage to hook any after using a wide range of baits through to rigs, saw schools of pinkies but unfortunately no sized ones were landed, if anybody has any tips to hooking up on sambos or pinkies please comment as i am dying to get a really decent fight :)

the photo shows the skippy we ended up keeping, biggest was 58cm but he went back in and so did the rest after these lot were pulled up in the first 10 minutes

Cheers guys!! ended up being a great day on the water

Exmouth Drifting?

very open question, is it worth drifting around Exmouth?

What size lead is usually required to hold bottom. I know it varies depending on depth wind etc, just rough idea thanks

ffb saturday

Hey everyone, been doing a bit of reaserch on here about fishing the ffb. found some great info so decided today would be the perfect day to go out. been out there previous weeks with only a breaksea cod being caught. went out about 7 and found a decent peice of ground set anchor and started with the burley. plan was to stay there all morning and keep the burley going. started slow with pickers destroying every bait that went down. was wrasse everywhere in the burley trail til about 9 then they just went quiet and knew this was the chance to get into decent fish. after a bit i managed to land very big sgt baker. was thinking of heading closer to the island coz my seasikness was kicking in when just after i landed a nice breaksea cod, we decided to stay a bit longer. roughly 10 minutes after that my bait was smashed and started taking line. set the hooks and not long after my first decent metro snapper came aboard. was very happy, turned out to be a good morning which flattened off completely, the pinkie measured 55cm and a bit over 2kg.

Skippers ticket help

Hi Guys

I am down in Busso and cant seem to find anyone who does skippers tickets on the weekends.

Ive been driving boats for years but only just bought one, does anyone know who does them down here on weekends?

The Dive Shed assessor apparently works away so only does them when he is in town on Thursdays.

What is the Stella 4000 comparison in Daiwa

Just looking at getting a Stella 4000 for barra fishing but just want to see what else is out there before I lay out so much hard earned cash. I have only heard great things about the stella and its ongoing performance. I havent heard too much about a Daiwa equivalent. Im sure that there are many out there that are Daiwa biased and Shimano biased. Im just looking for an awsome reel that will catch me fish after fish and remain trouble free. In laying out the money involved in the cost of a Stella you would expect minimal to no dramas. Any assistance is appreciated. The waters getting warmer by the day so they should be back on the chew soon.

Cheers.

BE ADVISED

Scubafish, Hello guys & gals!  New to the Fishwrecked Family "so be nice. "

Just wanting it to be known first up that" I'AM NOT A POACHER OF PEOPLES FISHING SPOTS " I have my own from years of fishing. Will be on the water hillarys 800-830 with (Ulablaster the  Decki ) ,Ocean reef 118 Call sign or Channel 72 on (27 meg )" Scubafish".  Anyone wishing to to join me in convoy may do so, if for nothing eles but safety in numbers it's a big ocean, we dont have to fish in the same spots but close by.  Leeman is still fresh in my mind and we should learn from it to avoid any Government changes like life jackets must be worn at all times on the water. I would like to still have the option to or not to."STAY TOGETHER & STAY SAFE" .

Fishing: FLW Outdoors Foxtel

Watching tv this morning early while getting acclimatised to Sydney/Australian Time again after 5 months in Canada and founf the FLW outdoors 2011 wrap up on fox.  Im a bit surprised to see these guys using 60-80lbs braid and outfits to land 10lbs fish and talking about fishing during the spawning times.

What do you guys think about the sport fishing aspect of this type of fishing? Is it sports fishing to be using 60-80lbs braid to fish in weeds, casting 3-4 mts from the boat and then virtually hoik the fish clean into the boat rather than using a net? Then putting them into live tanks for display at weigh ins, then at the weigh in, holding live fish from the mouth or gills for the appreciation of the crowd?

What about fishing during the known spawning times for Bass?

Also the River Monster guy using some huge outfits to catch rare/endangered species ?

boat fishing this weekend - what/where

Hi, planning to take the boat out one day this weekend to do some fishing. Have really done very little (boating and fishing) so wondering if anyone had some suggestions on what to target and where? Obviously not looking for lats/lons just just rough areas and what species to go for. Nothing too adventurous and not wanting to head very far out, just a relaxing day on the water and hopefully a few fish.

cheers,

Rob

Fishers Having A Win Maybe.

A few years ago now Forrest Beach south of Bunbury was closed off to vehicles by a local landowner who erected a fence extending down the beach into the water and today I found out that he has been given 14 days to remove the fence because he only owns the land to the" high "water mark and from the high water out three nautical miles is state owned so the fence is not legal. The local Shire council from what I can gather doesn't have duristinction either. If that applies in the Capel Shire Council it must be the same along the rest of the coast line including Binningup Beach. I've got the local Abc radio presenter in Bunbury who has the morning programme to find out whats the go and looks like being on tommorrow at 10 o'clock. I'm just wondering why it's taken two years for him to be told to pull it down. Maybe we'll find out tomorrow.

YEAH BABY!!!!

its thursday... boats packed.... and we have 3 great looking days to smash jurien!!!
