Nanofil
Submitted by trav32 on Sun, 2012-08-12 14:00I've been fishing 4 pound nanofil on my small stradic but find my knot connecting to my Fluro leader to break when I give it a medium-heavy tug between my two hands. I generally tie a double uni knot as these lines are so thin and I don't have the patience to tie a more complex knot when I can barely see the dental floss. I've read somewhere that people tie the double uni knot with the nanofil doubled over- is this a case of tying to a double using a spider hitch then using the double uni?
Otherwise the line is awesome and casts so far you can sell all your boats ;)

Alli crack/leak
Submitted by hekser on Sun, 2012-08-12 13:13Hey all, just wondering if anyone can suggest something here- had a crack in the hull- got it patched up but after taking it out yesterday- seems its still leaking. is it possible to do a weld over a weld? ill take it to a shop to get it done doesnt matter the cost- cant put a price on my life.
can they cut out the shitty weld and put a patch over it? its an older hull- rego papers say trimcraft ; im guessing 80s.. so it will be pretty average..
failing that should i just sikaflex and hope for the best?
cheers,
Hekser

11/8/2012 MINDARIE REPORT
Submitted by cahal.dahm on Sun, 2012-08-12 11:25Just a quick report on yesterdays fishing, was pretty slow day, early morning being the best. Sounded over a big school of snapper with only a queenie being caught.
Lots and lots of sargent bakers and small dhuies, next came my little pink, which was good to get since its my first on jig.
Dad got a little sweet lip on bait which was a surprise, not to sure if there that common in metro waters?
jigs that stood out where,
135g yambal cakra
130g Andaman pink glow (new favourite jig!)

2 rocks report
Submitted by slam on Sun, 2012-08-12 10:33My first trip out of 2 rocks didn't prove too successful on Friday. Started with losing sunnies over side in the marina. First drop on a lump with a good show on the sounder with new smith mejume jig resulted in a lost jig to a sambo. Had a bit of fun with the sambos for a while and then headed out deeper. 20nm offshore after a baldie came over the side by my deckie I decided to Ike jime him with the wrong tool. A filleting knife!! All I can say is OUCH! Sliced straight thru finger, cutting tendons, nerves and scraping the bone! Many a swear word and plenty of blood spilt on the deck was occurring. Luckily I had recently updated my medical kit so all wrapped up and panadol accompanied by beer and I carried on fishing. Not good idea. To cut a long story short I have just overnighted at the hospital with an operation by plastic surgeon to repair tendon and nerve damage!
Moral of this story. Don't Ike jime with a filleting knife to save time in looking for the right tool!

This days been dhu
Submitted by Alan James on Sat, 2012-08-11 20:11The forecast was good and a plan had been made during the week to chase some demersals off Two Rocks today. Wayne Glew a mate from my Woodside Pluto days had invited me on his boat. I’ve been out a few times with Wayne and from pics of days when I haven’t been on board he gets amongst some good sized dhuies on a regular basis but we had never managed to crack a good one with me on board.
Well today changed that. Over the day we caught 8 dhuies. Of those probably 3 were undersized and the non keepers all released well. After we had our 2 keepers we moved away the ground to target baldies or a pink but to no avail, we still caught dhuies.
I’m happy the call the fish below a joint catch. There was some fast and furious action happening onboard with 3 lines out and as there were only 2 of us on board there was some interchanging of rods. Wayne hooked it on my rod and generously offered for me to take over. The fish was over the 1m mark and whilst it was called for maybe a 20kg fish at the time it went 18kg on need I say tested scales.
Thanks for the day out Wayne. It’s a PB for me and I’m stoked.

Fishing in Exmouth
Submitted by Insane on Sat, 2012-08-11 19:44Hi Guys
First time fishing exmouth. Not having much success. Have trolled up a few trout and rankins.
Can't find anything whilst drifting using standard paternoster. What sort of bottom is the go to fish and what is a good general area to start this time of year.
Any general help would be appreciated. Not asking for co-ordinates more general areas.
Thanks

Butterfly Baits
Submitted by DanYell on Sat, 2012-08-11 14:03Does anyone use butterfly baits with great success? I was under the impression that it gave the illusion of the fish swimming but it seems it just attracts the crabs and pickers. Am I better off where live bait is unavailabe to just use just a dead bait whole to avoid pickers? Is it mainly for boat fishing or can it be used LB? I don't think I have read much on people using this method and I am wondering why???
Thanks

Dampier Triple tail
Submitted by crasny1 on Thu, 2012-08-09 16:16Just another challenge. Want to try and catch one of these sportsfish. Know they hang around the cyclone moorings. But has anyone got any better tips than blind casting a lure to them.
Are there certain moorings, or even the old barges that sit there for ages that would be a better option to try.
Was going to use some R2S Triho's which I have and have been told is the go. Any other lures etc worth a go.
