No Gamex 2012 for Team Swede this year. Who else cant make it?

Hey guys,

Thought I would have a sly winge!

Unfortunatley i wont be making it to Gamex 2012.

Work is flat out for me as we are very busy in the North West, and one fellow team mate who lives in Exmouth has to work Gamex as its his first year working at Bluewater Tackle in Exmouth during Gamex time so he draws the short straw, and the other team mate is tied up with work down in Esperance with the fisheries department. It appears that 2012 I will be sidelined and hopefully reading some top posts on the forums.

Work has to come first sometimes! I will definitly be amongst it in 2013!

Hope all the rest of you boys & girls that are heading up have a blast!

Thought it would be good time to ask who else cant make it and the reasons behind it?

TEAM SWEDE

Going out on a charter on Sunday.

Going out with Shikari Charters with some mates. Hopefully it will be awesome unlike my 1st trip out.

Anyone been out with them before?

Snapper sinker moulds

Hello all,

Is there a snapper mould which is about 20oz?  I constantly see 16oz then it jumps to 24oz.

Would be keen on purchasing one about that size.

Saltist Lever Drag LD35

Hey guys

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the Saltist Lever Drag reels and in particular the LD35. They have a carbon fibre drag so wouldnt need a carbontex upgrade (I dont think).

I used to have a Saltist 40 (star drag) and that nice and sturdy and had a good drag. Used to run 65lb braid and worked very nicely. Would the new LD35 be up to the same sort of use or is that pushing the specs a bit much?

Cheers

Brad

exmouth in 3 weeks :)

mainly landbased, going to try and conquor the rock wall this time, what can i exspect ?

Sharks but no tailor!

Went fishing last night (11/3) and was hoping to hook up some nice size Tailor, instead i just kept hauling in Sharks and Ray! Not complaining because all in all it was a real great active night of fishing, but wheres all the Tailor atm? I was fishing off the end of the rocks Ocean reef boat ramp.  For the main part i was just baitcasting with mullies, then changed tact and went off the bottom.

Has everyone else noticed the amount of sharks been pulled in? And wheres all the Tailor? :)

Everyone chasin a Mulla down eshed lol!!!

Had to get a shot of this hahaha So many people fish saturday arvo!!!!

Pinjarra move

G'day lads, new to the forum, been viewin ya posts for a while now, about to make the move from the pilbara to pinjarra, keen to fish the Murray river and the mandurah estuaries, just wondering if it's worth the trouble and if there's any tips or advice you blokes can give.

Cheers

Your thoughts on splitting a fishing trip cost

Planning a trip to Exmouth with 5 blokes taking two boats. One of my buddies is taking his boat and is asking the crew to split the cost to have trailer wheel bearings replaced, motor serviced and the cost of any mechanic recommended fixes. I have done numerous trips North in the past and always happy to pay my share, however this is the first time the question of boat maintenance has come up.

If I was taking my boat then I would not be expecting the crew to pay for my boat maintenance as I feel that this is an expense associated with owning a boat and not a fishing trip related expense. I do not mind paying my share to get the wheel bearings done because I feel this is a necessary fishing trip associated cost.

Next thing the guys that is using his car to tow the boat will be asking us to pay to have his car fixed.

Your thoughts.

pe dyneema braid fishing line is it cheap crap.

Been looking at pe dyneema spectra braid on ebay. Just wondering if anyone on here is using it and if its any good or is it just cheap chinese crap. $47 for 1000m of 30lb seems too cheap to be any good.Cheers

Steep trip 29/2/1012

The day started off with an early departure for Steep point we left about 4am hoping to get up there with some daylight toset up camp. There were 4 of us going in 2 vechiles one landcruised towing a  trailor and another one towing a 5m plate boat. we were off. The drive up went pretty uneventfull untill we hit the soft harder part of the track into Steep itself and the old trailor just couldnt cut it about 22 kms short of camp
Image preview

This made for a delay so we had to leave the trailor there for the time being and head for camp with the cars and boat. Once at camp we would set up and go back for the stuff in the trailor and collect the trailor at a later date as it was off the side of the track. This now meant 2 for setting up and 2 for recovering the rest of our gear out of the trailor.

Camp set up in the morning
Off for a look around and to check out fishing the cliffs the wind wasn't right so just casting off the long drop

Image preview and off the side of this cliff

no balloons today the boys could only fish the long drops with balloons the whole week we were there and the wind was only right 1 day to actually fish the point where many camp so if you were land based the conditions were tough luckly we had the boat and that gave us another element conditions were tough out there haha The fluger that didnt make it  although it was loaded to the hilt when it broke giving AAron a blood nose when she went and a nice little Trev on light gear. Dont get me wrong ever day wasnt like this but we did have pretty good conditions although 1 day i did resort to driving the boat with my dive mask on as i couldnt see without it.

we trooled the first 2 days without any mackies  we did get 1 tuna that went well in the red currie that night and a few bottom bashed snapper and baldies no big fish but still a feed and some for the freeza

Image preview

The mackies we got was the day i drove the boat and we boated 6 in total a few smaller ones that swam off well and a couple fo the freezer here is one of the bigger ones

Image preview

The nights were also up for fun we jioined the evening progresson as if we were going prawning in the swan river the boats lined up the bank in 40 / 60 feet and about dust the snapper were there and we caught lots of little ones and even dragged out the bream gear for some fun. most nights we decided to just fish the reef and get tailor for breaky wich we had a blast on thebream gear again

The trip was a blast with pleanty of fish no horses but a realy good trip and glad we dragged the boat up or we would have had it a whole lot tuffer. Ps the trailor was gone when we went back to remove it some one had already removed it for us. MENTAL NOTE FOR ANY ONE TRYING THIS TRIP TAKE A GOOD TRAILER WITH THE WHEEL BARINGS DONE DONT UNDERESTIMATE THE TRACK IN AS WE WERE 1 OF 3 TRAILERS THAT DIDNT MAKE THE TRIP IN AND OUT THAT WEEK.

Jurien Bay

Hey all

I know its a real long shot but we are in jurien at the moment with the boat. We have searched for the last 2 days trying to find fish and only coming up with one size pinkie.

Would any one be able to point us in the right direction to find some fish. tomorrow is our last day so we just want to catch a few before we leave.

not asking for secret spots just a point in the right direction.

Cheers all.

S-Bend Report March 2012

I took the opportunity to team up with Jasfishing (Jase), his Cuz Mark and his Dad Dave over the long weekend. We met at the Tenth Light Horse (they were only 3 hours late!) and headed up up to the S-Bend. The trip was pretty cruisy for a long weekend and we arrived in time to knock a few beers over, pitch the tents etc. and go for a fish.

The first evening we hit Lucy's in perfect conditions.

The Tailor ran on Dusk but the size was a bit disappointing but made for good slabs for bait later.

Dave was wrapped. First fish in 40 years he recons. I recon it's his first fish ever!LOL

This is the time when I secretly swear at my wife. She had taken the memory card out of my camera so that's it!!!! LOL. Dave gathered heaps of pictures over the weekend so I must get in touch and get hold of some copies.

Anyway, we fished Lucy's again with little success other than a nice size Wobby. Pricks of things to skin. Guess who got that job......

Next day we cruised around with me playing tour guide. We ended up at Secret Men's Business where a fishing club had a comp and you couldn't see the ocean for rods LOL. The guys were excited. We headed across country and eventually found the Walkaway Pub. No power but the beer was cold and the gas burners were working. Now replenished we headed back to camp and the guys disappeared down the beach for some more action. Not a lot on offfer other than some soapie Mulloways - released. There were  few decent Mulloway landed around 80cms and heaps of Tailor of varying sizes appeared on the cleaning table.

We were all too buggered on Monday morning so we slowly packed up the camp and headed back home.

All in all  had a great time with great company. Lot's of laughs and plenty of beers consumed (not to mention the bottle of scotch). Dave cracked his first Tailor, Jase caught his first Tailor on Popper (first cast with new stick!!!!!!) and Mark continued his good form catching absolutely NOTHING LOL.

Thanks for the company guys.
