Deckie Spot(s) Available
Submitted by Mick C on Thu, 2015-06-04 23:23Planning to head out from Hillarys about 4pm tomorrow to fish inshore and see what is there after the storm fronts. Going to fish "new ground" close to the coast, so no guarantees.
Will go solo, but would welcome a deckie or two. Out at 4pm and in by 8pm is the plan. Let me know if you are interested by PM. No cost but bring your own gear and bait/lures.
Cheers. Mick

40th Anniversary Dampier Classic - Presented by K.B.G.F.C
Submitted by Brucesta on Thu, 2015-06-04 13:59One of W.A's premier fishing competitions is celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year with one of the biggest events the committee of King Bay Game Fishing Club has put together. This week long event will feature some great events co-inciding with the Annual FeNaClNG Festival in Karratha.
This is a WAGFA sanctioned tournament covering the three styles of fishing; Tag and Release Billfish, Tag and Release Game Fish and line class Capture covering all line classes (up to 37kg for T&R sections, 60kg fine for capture)
Festivities will kick off with 2 comprehensive information nights by the legendary lure maker Peter Pakula on Monday and Tuesday nights (27/28th July) in the Sunset Room at the Tambrey Centre. The compulsary breifing night will be held on Wednesday 29th July for all competitors.
Lines in starts at 0600 on Friday 31st July and lines out at 1700 on Saturday 1st August where a great social night has been planned at the Gantry for all to join in and tell some tall tales of the past two days fishing. We have been generous and allows a sleep in with lines back in at 0800 on Sunday 2nd with a final lines out at 1700 on Monday with all captures/tags to be at the gantry by 1800.
After 4 big days on the ocean you can relax and join us back at the Tambrey centre on Tuesday 4th August to present the prizes and enjoy the stories from all.
Over $25000 in prizes are up for grabs for Adult Male, Adult Female, Junior and Small Fry catagories in all three fishing catagories along with Champion boat catagories and open catagories including heaviest mackerel daily, billfish, shark and gamefish for the comp along with other prize catagories.
If you didn't get to fish GAMEX this year, why not tow that extra 250kms and try the fish rich and protected waters of the Pilbara coast and the Dampier Archipelago. With 32 known spieces of game fish to chase and plenty of sheltered waters everyone has a shot at winning a prize. With over 200 billfish tagged just this weekend gone for the Billfish Shootout our numbers are just as good as exmouth

Can anyone tell me how hard it is to change a power tilt motor (90hp Mercury) - and how long would a boat mechanic take to do it?

Need a part for my fishing rod
Submitted by dalaisc on Thu, 2015-06-04 09:48Peeps
I have an old school overhead ugly stick and the clamp on the reel seat is gone walkabout. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to get a replacement. See photos for what I mean.
You need to click on the cross to bring up the photo.
Thanks

Rod/reel storage
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Thu, 2015-06-04 09:29Hey all,
Just doing some research for a project I have coming up and thought I might ask a few questions about how you store your rods and reels.
1. Do you store your rods or reels inside or in the shed?
2. How many rods/reels do you have?
3. Do you use a rod rack?
4. How much is your average rod/reel worth (Cheap = <$200, Mid range = $200-500, High End = >$500)
5. Do you display your rods/reels?
6. Would you display your rods/reels in an art piece rod/reel rack on a wall in the shed or inside to show them off?
7. Would your family prevent you from displaying your rods/reels ?
8. Would you pay $150-300 for a custom built rod/reel rack to display your rods as an art piece?
9. Would you want a combined tackle/fishing equipment/Rod/Reel rack?
Edit: 10. Do you store your reels on your rods
Thanks in advance,
Bryan

Carnarfin
Submitted by Carewza on Wed, 2015-06-03 20:35Hi everyone,
So, as you probably know, last week the 'Carnarfin' was on. I'm just wondering if you think it would have affected the fish in the area (fished out, I guess) as we've always had luck when out fishing however since the competition they seem to have completely disappeared? Does this actually happen or are we imagining it?!!!

First time from woodies
Submitted by 420casts on Tue, 2015-06-02 19:01 A friend and I took his tinny out in front of CY oconnor / south beach for the first time with mainly undersize skippy and a couple of squid. Few other species such as butterfish and goatfish, but not alot else. Can anyone give us some pointers for the area ? We we didn't have an epirb so we could only stay within 2 N.M of shore.
We mainly wanna catch KG's and anything else good for the table. Also what larger fish are in this area ? Cheers.

Marine Parks
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Tue, 2015-06-02 08:00We were in Augusta for the long weekend and on sunday morning went to the new marina for a look around at the blessing of the fleet and community markets. While there under a WA Tourism gazebo Save our Marine Life were there with a stand with info about the marine parks. I went over for a look and the lady that there asked if I knew about the marine parks plan, to which I replied 'yes, but im honestly not really in support'. She asked why so I said I thought the science and the communication of the parks weren't great which lead to a robust debate about the rottnest trench and other areas. Lets just say we agreed to disagree, then she told me that there is currently a review of the decision with consultation of stakeholders to try to have the decision not to implement the parks overturned?
Is anyone else aware that this is happening?

Outboard recommendations
Submitted by C.P on Mon, 2015-06-01 11:45I have a 20 year old 4.4 mtr bay hunter with a 40 HP 2 stroke mercury. Hull is very good & i want to keep it but the outboard has a couple of problems that will be expensive to fix. So Im starting to think about getting a new one. I would apprecitate some recommendations. 4 stroke i suppose - are they still a lot heavier than 2 strokes? 40 HP is about right. No point in a more powerful motor because most of the time I cant go flat out any way with the 40.

Cuttlefish vs dhu
Submitted by slam on Sun, 2015-05-31 20:34Well this was a first. Had a take on the jig on Friday and couldn't quite work out what is was. Thinking maybe big dhu with big tail beats. Somewhat disappointed when up came a 350 dhu with a huge cuttlefish engulfing it. Amazing sight and huge cuttlefish. Poor dhu was very much under the weather with a rather large hole in its head! Cuttlefish let go at the top and very unwell dhu went down on the release weight probably to be finished off by his friend!
