10/10 Big Pink, Dhu, KG, BA & Burley
Submitted by Mick C on Tue, 2014-09-23 23:10Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?
A mate from the East that has been receiving my WA Perth Metro photos came West for work. I have copped a constant “barrage” of messages over the last month about taking him fishing in WA as his itinerary needed to be planned. No mate, you have to fish the conditions over here and when the wind is right, we can go – as long as it is dawn or dusk. Long range forecasting and constant checks of the weather meant lots of communications, and today was likely to be good as are the next few days.
It turned out as forecast, even though the Hillarys real time weather conditions (wind change strength) were checked all day to confirm, and we headed out at 4.30pm. Proven ground, baits and rigs, good burley, the Minn Kota holding us on the spot, and the expectations of quality fish were high – although it is never a sure thing.
Perth Metro delivered again! 780mm Pink (5.5kg), 540mm Dhu, 440mm KG, 330mm Blackarse (although shrunk to just over 300mm when measured at home) and a couple of big Snook for the burley. Lots of “undesirables” and returned undersized “quality” for an awesome afternoon/evening/night on the water. How good is this place?

Furuno Sounder Deals - Limited time only
Submitted by Oceanside Tackle on Tue, 2014-09-23 21:44Super Deep fishing has become very popular and so has the inquiries to Oceanside Tackle and Marine re what we use and recommend electronics wise.
Simple, its Furuno all the way and all us staff (including the shop Owner Ryan Thipthorp) use the commercial units like Furuno FCV295 & FCV1150.
They are our preferred units for Super Deep fishing by far however if the budget is set lower then the Furuno FCV587 matched with a TM260 transducer is the least you would use.
After being asked for many years to do a Super Deep talk Ryan Thipthorp c/o Oceanside Tackle and Marine will do a talk soon. In the mean time we have been selling some nice Furuno gear to fit out our customers boats of late and the pricing is very sharp.
We are doing some "AWESOME SPECIALS" on Furuno gear ie;
FCV1150 Sounder
FCV295 Sounder
FCV587 Sounder
TM260 Transducer (with bracket)
2KW 28 & 38 Transducers
3KW 28 & 38 Transducers
2KW 200khz Transducers
(Transducers deals are based on buying a sounder)
With all sounder purchases we will do all the settings for you, explain what the settings are used for, make you fully understand your sounder and explain what your looking for re echo's, colours, fish formation and maximizing the units full capability's.
So if your wanting to buy the best sounder for demersal fishing/jigging and Super deep fishing etc then PM us or call on 9337 5682, ask for Josh or Ryan for the BEST DEALS.

exmouth, nearly there!
Submitted by Niko on Tue, 2014-09-23 21:32holiday booked 6 months ago and is now only a few days away. first trip to exmouth for a week leaving saturday!
been hammering the search function and found loads of great info on the whens and wheres to fish and just the general look at things to do. got myself a new 9ft catana and solstice combo not top end gear but itll throw 40gram lures around with 20lb braid, plus my heavy and light combos. got a few poppers and metal slices for queenfish and trevally an even some small stuff to have a go at the whiting in the gulf on poppers and small walker lures. will be solely landbased (although id love to get on the charters ppl have spoken about). generally prefer to use bait but it sounds like if im going to have a go at lure fishing exmouth is the place to start. weather reports look like there be some good weather altho a bit of wind so i figure just stay on the gulf side when its blowing and get onto the west on the calmer days.
ive been reading up heaps and know a few good spots to try and keen to just have a crack wherever i end up, as it is a family trip with the gfs side i wont be able to fish 24/7 but will get out as often as i can even if its the local marina or beach. seeing as it is my first time up and i want to make the most of it if theres any recomendations from the guys whove been up a bit, fishing/sights or reports on the fishing or weather from anyone on the way back or been up recently id love to hear them.
few questions though if anyone can help, keen to get a few spangled emperor for the table, can you get them on the gulf side or is the west side more productive? also baitwise are they particularly different to bluelined emps (black snapper) we caught a heap in shark bay on mulies on gangs or cubes on single hooks so i was just going to give this ago. or just any other tips/tricks to help me get 1 or 2 would obviously be appreciated.
hopefully im on the right track and cheers to anyone who takes the time to help out and i get into a few fish. im not taking a vac sealer or portable freezers so everything caught will be released if it cant be eaten that day/week, just keen to tackle some of the fast sportfish up there.
cheers FW

Kalbarri
Submitted by lachieH on Tue, 2014-09-23 20:51Hi everyone, I might be going camping with my friends in Kalbarri in the holidays and wondering what you catch at the river and on the beach there. Would throwing stickbaits and poppers and a few baits be good for tailor at the beach? And can you catch bream in the river? And also are there any of the northern species like Barra, mud crabs, crocs, threadfin salmon etc. I'm restricted to land based and kayak fishing (only allowed to go on kayaks in the river).

When is a lure not a lure.
Submitted by Russell Iles on Tue, 2014-09-23 14:47Recreational fishers around the world all have their individual thoughts
as to what a lure is, but when is a lure not a lure.
We accept that Halco, TT's (Tackle Tactics) ZMan, Predatec, Gulp are lures in as much that they are artificial lures, be they
soft or hard.
So when someone uses a live tommy, a piece of squid or a chunk off of a fish fillet, are they not lures?
Or is it that traditionally, we use these forms of baits as baits & that is what we stick too as a tradition?
Fishwrecked experts tell me what you think, as I would like to have a definitive view based on your comments so that
I can include them in my e-books on recreational fishing.
Cheers

5000 FJ stradic - bigger spool
Submitted by scotto on Tue, 2014-09-23 07:59I'm asking if there is a spool that fits a 5000 FJ stradic, that has a bigger line capacity than the original spool (which can take around 200m of 20lb).
I'd ideally like to fill it with 300m of pe2, plus a bit of backing.

Road Trip More Photos Added
Submitted by outdoinit on Mon, 2014-09-22 20:10My brother in law invited me to fish the Townsville Billfish comp on Sept 5 and so the decision was made to go..
it would of been a lot cheaper to fly, But we decided on a road trip.. And an awesome trip at that we covered over 14,500 kms over 7 weeks and done a few awesome things along the way, like,
Shark Diving at Port Lincoln, the Great Ocean Drive, Snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef and of course the Billfish comp where we ended up coming 3 rd overall.. Or as someone said.. "Second Losers"
Anyway here are just a few photos of the trip.
Ps On the Shark dive we seen 8 different Sharks and Holy crap I hope I never meet one when out diving..

Bit of variety on the jigs
Submitted by dant on Mon, 2014-09-22 07:23Hi All,
Just a couple photos from the last couple of trips, bit of variety on the jigs, hopefully get a few more trips in before the ban.
first off 11kg Dhuie

this sounder shot was a massive school of stripys, jigs were getting about half way down then they would go walk abouts. Browny got smoked by something that was chasing these, had a fight for about 5 mins then snapped him off.

Mass school of Sambos - pulled a couple up then left, were shattered couldnt lift them into the boat.

had to put the decky in there with his pride and joy haha - not a bad sized queeny, they go pretty hard, was released.

random blue, again went very hard - was released.

Cheers Gents.

Blowin in Denham
Submitted by Ol Tom on Sun, 2014-09-21 12:50I don't normally like to ask but we are at denham this week with a bad weather outlook for the week. I have heard there are spots not far from the boat ramp where we can get some pinks and blacks.
This is the bit I hate. Does anyone have a spot they can give me that we can make the most of any breaks in the weather to get the boat out and catch a fish?
Thanks in advance

Fishing Bali
Submitted by Walfootrot on Sun, 2014-09-21 07:48Hi all,
Went to Bali 2 weeks ago for my sons wedding. Was my first trip to Bali and loved it. ( my liver still hurts from all the Bintang LOL ).
Anyway, as I work a 2 & 2 roster I have decided to make another trip to Bali on the 5th - 10th Oct, this time its a fishing trip, and the little lady will be staying at home, and going to work as she cant get any more time off till Feb next year.
Flight and accomodation booked and have booked a 12m charter boat for 2 days. Package includes pickup and drop off from motel, food for the day, drinks including BEERS, Skipper, deck hand and a fishing guide.
I know that Bali is a bit over fished, and some may say dont waist your time, but I like the place and am going to have a crack, as it is coming up to the best time for fishing.
Most of their fishing is done with jigs, this is new to me, they jig upto 250m ( think thats going to hurt LOL ). they also troll and cast popper for GT, dog tooth, mac's etc and will bottom bounce.
If anyones over in Bali during this time and wants to catch up for a beer let us know, or if you want to come for a fish one day on the charter, you would only have to pay for the extra food, drinks, hotel pickup, and rod hire.
Dont know what the price would be but could find out if anyone is keen. think $50-$100 would more than cover it ( the boat cost me $1100 for the 2 days ).
Anyway, I will post a report and pic's when I return.

Sounder/GPS Advice
Submitted by trueblue_10 on Sat, 2014-09-20 08:55Ok need some advice. I Have read posts about furuno and lowrance HDS Sounders. But thought I would put my personnel situation out to seek the experience and recommendations of yourselves.
i have an 6.1ali boat with room on top of console to put another sounder if needed. Currently my boat is fitted with a Lowrance LCX-110c and transducer on transom. LCX has been ok , not bad on gps, sounder is average on showing fish, bottom seems really detailed when driving at about 6 to 10 knots. I think it gets a bit of interference from the noise at the transom, motor, hull etc.
Was thinking of updating to the lowrance HDS10 just replacing old with new unit to improve what I see when sounding and to prevent clutter on my dash. I do like the big screen with combo capability. Also the connectors, cables and transponder will connect straight up.
But one of my options is to leave the old lcx in the boat for the GPS and put in a furuno FCV-587 or simiilar. If so I would then have to think about transducer type and position. Some recommend the 1kw tranni etc is that the way to go or is the 50/200 std furuno transducer sufficient. Also can that be fitted in hull on an Ali and what would I need?
sorry about the lots of questions but would like to hear experiences and thoughts re lcx110 vs hds10 vs furuno and then transducer recommendations given what I have.
