Advice on trip.
Submitted by Dazza1611 on Fri, 2014-03-21 20:54Hi all.
early April I am heading North for work, I don't have much time but will be staying in Carnarvon 1 afternoon/night and Exmouth 1 afternoon/night.
was hoping to get a couple of ideas as to where to fish Land based unfortunately.
Split rings on lures
Submitted by Sunburntfeet on Fri, 2014-03-21 20:17Why the hell do lures come with split rings on the tie point of lures? Annoys the shit out of me. If you can't tie a loop knot, learn how to! Instead of a split ring they should have a 'how to tie a loop knot' card. Pretty sure a bit of paper should be cheaper than an under sized key ring!

Torpedo rocks boat ramp
Submitted by beachsoul on Fri, 2014-03-21 08:14Just wondering whether anyone has used this ramp. I was down there the other day and initially I thought it looked like a easy launch but then I noticed the slime particularly on the Western side of the ramp. Has this caused anyone problems in the past. The East side looks less slimey. I will only be launching a dinghy but may be single handed

Ledge Point Members
Submitted by Piggy on Thu, 2014-03-20 21:09Hi fishos,
Looking for any fishwrecked members that may be from Ledge Point.... I wanted to pick your brain!!
I have recently bought a house in Ledge (By recent I mean a year ago) and I have yet to take my boat out up there, but I am planning on taking it up at easter. I have been down to the beach when some locals have pulled their boats out, some skull drag the boat up the beach and some just back the trailer down in the water with their tractor and drive the boat on and drive out.....
My question is how easy is it lauching and retrieving there at the moment? I have a 6.7 barcrusher and have a tractor at the house and wanted to know if its necessary to have to skull drag it up the beach first or will I get away with backing the trailer in the water and driving the boat on?
Also if anyone cares to share if they are getting many crays at the moment? And whats the fishing been like?
Theres a fair few questions but was hoping a local could assist!
Cheers in advance!!

Mandurah Crab festival
Submitted by Oracle on Thu, 2014-03-20 19:07howdy all,
The crab festival has just come and gone, but do the crabs come from Mandurah? Does this mean there's bugger all left? 100,000 people eat a heck of a lot of crab
Also, with the rains about to fall, the river usually shuts down. What about Mandurah and the sound?
cheers

Braid
Submitted by psion on Thu, 2014-03-20 13:04what would cause Braid to weaken
Hi folks
I bought a talica 12 II and got the shop to spooled it with 600m of YGK PE 5 braid.
My reels drag is : strike 19 Lbs, full 39Lbs.
I've now lost 4 fish due to line breakage. I though it was my Knot, then I check the eyes of my rod.
Finally I went to the beach with my daughter and tested it. It seems to be only in certain areas. I set the drag to the minimum and walk back, with 60-100m of line out I slowly tightened the drag and pulled. it tends to snap just over the strike drag setting. (one snapped as I was starting to pull) 3 trys, 3 breakages, at differnet lengths, but none at the knots.
I'm going to replace the braid but don't want the same to happen (fairly expensive exercise).
Could the braid get damaged when it's wound on? (through heat, friction).
would the more expensive (therefore, thinner braids), be more likely to be affected?
my "ebay special" braid is still going strong, and I've had it the longest?
cheers

Break In & enters \ Fraud thoughts?
Submitted by nico on Thu, 2014-03-20 10:19Hi Guys
You would have to be Crazy at the moment to buy a Reel advertised on any forum, 2nd hand site or face book, with no receipt unused, no box in new condition. With the Black market hot and flooded with high end gear of late from all the break & enters not to mention the unknown fraud,i would be thinking this is being looked at by WA Police i imagine.
I guess though if some one does buy one of these reels on the black market its a gamble if you get caught or notor your just that dumb to not think they are stolen. If the original thief is caught and ends up in Jail for Fraud or Theft is he going to pass on the info of the person-people whom help sell the products and the buyers, if he doesnt then the feds will go through there phone accounts and messages forum accounts and proceed to find the reels or rods and retreive stolen property.Just a thought Buyer Beware i say.

South Coast Tuna
Submitted by Jaaayoo on Thu, 2014-03-20 03:16G'day all. Long time, first time.
Shortly returning to WA after an extended period in the Eastern states mainly Victoria, where one of the prime fisheries was the annual run of SBT out of towns like Portland and Port Mac SA. A quick glance at the map shows the shelf running along Albany at about the same distances. Pretty sure that these tuna migrate all along the Southern Ocean
does that mean the south coast WA gets these same fish. I really haven't heard anything from over here. Anyone?

so saturdays weather?..
Submitted by Niko on Wed, 2014-03-19 21:55Hey all, dropping my gf in the city saturday and got a few hours early to mid afternoon to kill before going to pick her up. the weather reports arnt looking to great but as long as its not raining, and seeing as all recent attempts to get out for a fish have failed, i was thinking of heading to claremont or along that stretch to try my luck for some flathead or whatever. ive had very limited luck in the swan and this summer has seen me a total 1 sized flathead and 2 tarwhine. so thort id seek some advice before i rush out, would i be wasting my time heading out saturday or are there spots between the city and freo that will still produce on a not so great day weatherwise? ive got a handfull of smaller lures and suitable rod/reel with 6lb braid and heaps of varrying sized mono leaders, so am prepared to swap and change until sumthing works. any help would be greatly appreciated, plus once i get some more experience under my belt ill glady do the same for others, as i no how slow it is getting started into metro fishing.
Cheers, Niko

GME fishfinder/ plotter problem
Submitted by saltyseamen on Wed, 2014-03-19 20:23I have a GME G-Combo fishinder/chartplotter combo, no more than 2 years old. Chartplotter and everything works fine but the fishfinder stopped working not long ago.
When i use the fish finder all that appears are 3 question marks where the depth should be and a blank screen were the sonar reading should appear.
It still tells me the water temperature and SOG(speed over ground) so the transducer is still working just not getting a reading of whats underneath.
Any ideas on that the problem could be?
