Tailor around Point Peron/Rocko?
Submitted by Versus on Sun, 2012-11-18 12:51Gday all,
Was visiting someone in rocko today so decided to go have a cast for Tailor at Point Peron early this morning. Arrived about 6.15, cast metals, poppers, bluescode etc for over an hour from as many spots as possible (was low tide so was a bit limited by the fringing reef). Not a touch. Same deal about 2 weeks ago when we went out in the hail like fools. Both times were not 'planned' around tides/times etc, just opportunity to fish.
It ticks all the right boxes for Tailor, and is a very fishy looking area, so just wondering if anyone else has caught some there or nearby?

Carnac Today...
Submitted by muskrat on Sat, 2012-11-17 15:14Went out today in the morn for a fish with my two mates and my dad. Out there at about 7.30. Targetting whiting, and first cast, my dad catches a decent sized whiting. About ten minutes later we see massive herring jumping, so off go the whiting rigs and on come the herring rigs. Caught 1 whiting and about 10 decent sized herring in about 45 minutes. They also just hung around forever at the back of the boat cos we just kept chucking burley out.Came back in when the breeze came in at about 11.00
Cheers,
The Muskrat

Today
Submitted by nicmaddogg on Sat, 2012-11-17 14:23Hi,
Me and a mate had the morning free so we thought we would head out for a trawl at the back off 3 mile. Within 30 mins we were on to our first bonito. We ended up getting 8 in about 20 mins so we decided to try for tuna or mackies. No luck so we went out for a bounce for kg's. No luck but got onto some good sized whiting and flathead. All in all good lil morning sesh
Cheers

Mulloway bait?
Submitted by dkonig82 on Fri, 2012-11-16 09:09Planning to have a crack on some chunky structure around 80m to try and lure out a Mulloway.
Going to try jigs first, but failing that what's the preferred bait which is readily purchasable?
I know live tailor etc are often used off the shore, but I don't have the inclination to go and try find them as this is not a dedicated Mulla trip, just going to try quickly whilst out jigging. Was thinking maybe scalies?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers

Kalbarri
Submitted by metroLBfisher on Thu, 2012-11-15 23:28Heading up to kalbarri for two weeks soon with the family. Havn't been there since i was a little taker, so it's time i finally got into some good land based fishing.
Just wondering if anyone had any tips/spots as i have no clue about the area. I doubt i will be able to get to wagoe, unfortunately.
Looking at targeting some decent green backs, sharks, hopefully a mulloway if im lucky? even heard of some snapper being caught there quiet regularly land based.
Appreciate if anyone could point me in any direction and what techniques etc to use.
Cheers,
Jamie

Jigging Master, Fallings Limited.
Submitted by rockfire on Thu, 2012-11-15 22:09Hi Guys,
Im hoping you can help me out.
Ive decided to purchase a Jigging Master, Fallings Limited rod. I have my heart set on the Fallings Limited range but I cant decide between the 100~260g (PE 3-6) and the 200~400g (PE 4-8) model.
All my life ive been fishing (bottom bashing) with a Live Fibre 15kg~24kg rod with a huge trolling reel loaded with 50lb mono. Ive decided to acsend from the dark ages and start using braid (50lb).
Most of my fishing with the new setup will be between 40m and 150m depth, but mainly around the 50m. My style of fishing is mainly bottom boucing with an occasional jig.
Now, my question is, which out of the two mentioned rod ratings would you recommend for my style of fishing? Im aware braid has less drag through the water compared to mono, however due to my non existant experience fishing with braid, Im finding it difficult to gauge the difference with sinker requirements when dealing with high drift. Also, jigging rods are completly different to what ive been using.
Once again, I have my heart set on the Fallings Limited range (dont ask me why, I think its the high price tag :)) and there are no weight option between 100~260g and 200~400g.
Basically, I dont want a rod that is too lite or too heavy. Im thinking the 200~400g just to be on the safe side.
Thanks again people and I hope ive provided enough info.

Tailor Between Trigg and Hillaries??
Submitted by surfer on Thu, 2012-11-15 16:08G'day everyone,
I'm a bit of a novice at tailor fishing.....considering people talk about catching them in reefy areas next to shore i was wondering if I was to throw some lures around the reefy areas between trigg and hillaries would i be in with a chance. Or would i have a better chance heading further North to Ocean Reef or Mindarie.
Thanks for any advice.

Popper outfit pe5
Submitted by turts on Thu, 2012-11-15 14:01Hi guys I'm after a pe5 popper outfit not keen to break the bank too much on this one however
i think rods are pretty straight forward have been looking at...
- daiwa demon blood 803xxh
- demon blood 762x
- Wilson live fibre venom 7'6 pe5 spin popper
- tcurve offshore 802 stickbait
- shimano terez spin 7'8 heavy / xheavy
- shimano ocea offshore 802 stickbait
- daiwa Catalina ch79s.n (although may be a bit pricey )
reels are really where I'm struggling to decide
I understand weight is important and that's what is putting me off reels like the saltist 6500 but then the 4500 is not really a 50lb reel?!
should I be looking at something like the shimano spheros or Saragossa?
or a twinpower
and what sizes. Catalina 5000 would be ideal but out of my price range unfortunately
cheers

Painting my Tailor Lures with Lumo
Submitted by TheJettyRat on Thu, 2012-11-15 12:04Last week I ordered some fluro pigment ( glow in the dark ), when I get it in the mail I am planning on painting some of my tailor lures with it. I got idea from fishing with Gillies whitebait lures at night, these lures have a small strip of lumo on the bottom and the tailor, snook and herring seem to love them. I got further inspiration from a doco I was watching about filming Giant Squid. In the doco the crew were using a new type of camera called starlight cameras, they see the bioluminescence amitted by most fish and the smallest creatures such as krill ect as the fish swim through the water disturbing them. I have also been looking into bioluminescence a bit and I have found that scientists are just starting to do research into which fish can see it. I figure since Tailor are predators and do most of their hunting at night they too might see bioluminescence so I am going to paint these lures to try and mimic this to some degree. I will post back on here the progress I make or don't make and let you all know how it goes.

New bag limits
Submitted by wagyl on Thu, 2012-11-15 10:20I was being inspected by fisheries on Friday and they mentioned that the bag limits are changing in January. They said they weren't sure, but the new bag limit for the high risk species was going to be increased, possibly to 3 per angler, and that the dhuie limit could be 3 per boat. The limits are being reviewed just like they did for crays. Anyone heard of this?

Submitted by mr_meks on Thu, 2012-11-15 06:38Anyone know if its worth crabbing in the river at the moment? Was thinking about dropping the boat in during the day next weekend, If I could manage 6/7 just sized blues or maybe even a couple of muddies it would be worth it.
