Night fishing in summer
Submitted by damon4949 on Tue, 2012-11-20 17:22Hey guys, so got some nice lights in the boat now and was wondering if it's worth going out for a night fish if I'm going to miss the tide change (Tide on Friday is high at 7:30ish and I'll be on the water 8:30-9) and if it's still worth it, what kind of thing should I look for (ie. gutters, rocks, weed ect ect) withOUT catching any snapper. I know a few good tailor spots but was wondering if they bite all through the night. Hoping for something on the large side of things, Cockburn based btw.
Many thanks!
Damon.
P.S I searched for about 4 hours before asking, searching "night fishing" just brings up 2498576349876534897573498 snapper reports ;)

2012 Catalina or Stella FA
Submitted by lllz3rolll on Tue, 2012-11-20 08:59Hi all pros, I am contemplating between 2012 catalina 5000H and stella 8000 FA for popping. Put aside the price tag and Saltiga is out of the range for now?
Besides, is the 2012 catalina using the same gears as the Saltiga with lesser ball bearings? Normally the 2 tier reel will be using 2 tier gears? Correct me if i am wrong.
Thanks

Submitted by trav32 on Mon, 2012-11-19 21:30How funny is it that sailfish eat toadfish? Yep you read that right. Can anyone comment?
I read that when sailfish round up balls of toadfish they won't touch a lure- all they want to eat Is toadfish!

Halco catch scent
Submitted by jighead on Mon, 2012-11-19 13:44Whatever happened to halco catch scent. I remember it in yellow plastic tubes and the gel was a reddish colour. When it came in contact with the water it would turn the same colour as a yellow highlighter. Is it still around and does anybody remember catching anything of note on it?

Is this a mullet ?
Submitted by Uluabuster on Mon, 2012-11-19 12:38G'day All,
Can someone advise what species of fish is this ?
Saw some showering baitfish and cast my floating stickbait and walk the dog back and got this fish instead. Initially I thought this was the baitfish and it was foul hooked. My subsequent cast confirmed that they are indeed the predator cos they follow my stickbait back towards me in school.
I also caught another one on a sinking stickbait.

Hooked tortoise release opinions, PLEASE!
Submitted by BigDunc on Sun, 2012-11-18 21:34Me and my mate Luke went down to Fishmarket Reserve in Guildford for a beer and a cast in the sun yesterday arvo, usually hit a couple of bream, 1000 reels with 4lb braid, prawns, good fun. I got a couple of serious bites, bait be gone, same a Luke, beer number two. I got a little Redfin (sorry bloke, can't put you back), and Luke got something sneaky, taking a little bit of line, thinking it was a big blue manna (caught some on line before), ended up a long necked tortoise, hook swallowed. I've read from Fisheries sites that undersized fish with swallowed hooks, cut the line 150mm to 250mm from their mouths, interferes with their feeding abilities the least. Did that and let him go. Late Saturday arvo, no vets were open and two wildlife rescue sites, we got answering machines. Have we done the righty? Any info would be appreciated.

Tailor around Point Peron/Rocko?
Submitted by Versus on Sun, 2012-11-18 12:51Gday all,
Was visiting someone in rocko today so decided to go have a cast for Tailor at Point Peron early this morning. Arrived about 6.15, cast metals, poppers, bluescode etc for over an hour from as many spots as possible (was low tide so was a bit limited by the fringing reef). Not a touch. Same deal about 2 weeks ago when we went out in the hail like fools. Both times were not 'planned' around tides/times etc, just opportunity to fish.
It ticks all the right boxes for Tailor, and is a very fishy looking area, so just wondering if anyone else has caught some there or nearby?
