HELP!! New camera wanted!!
Submitted by KeenAsFisho on Wed, 2012-12-05 06:34G'day All,
I know this ain't fishing quality (well it could be on a technicality i suppose) but the mrs and I are going to be having a baby next year. So for xmas I want to get her a good quality camera and camcorder. Basically what I want to know is can anyone recommend a good quality digital SLR for under 500 bucks?
Has anyone got one they like and would recommend getting? I am pretty cluey with the camcorder side so I will be able to find one of those but the camera side I am useless!!
Has to be a pretty good quality one (I realize I am a bit restricted at 500) but I also will take it on the boat (aha yes it IS a fishing topic lol) so want one that will handle that alrite.
Cheers all!

A cowboy operation!!! Charged a shit load for shipping then when the item turned up after well over 2 weeks the postage paid stamp on the parcel was a quater of the price paid and was for the cheapest option! The handling and packing does not cost that much we can all use the post office calc right? When I tried to contact them by phone email many many times still no reply.... Not impressed will never use them again, you have been warned.

Boat trailer guide on's & side posts
Submitted by West coast pom on Tue, 2012-12-04 13:19Hi all,
Not specifically a fishing question, but it impacts my ability to go fishing on my own!!
Anyone know where to get those vertical guide posts that bolt onto the rear frame of a boat trailer (to help straighten the boat when retrieving on my own). I have found loads of suppliers in the US, but can't seem to find any in Perth or in Oz for that matter.
Anyone know a supplier/ where i can get them in WA?
Uploaded a picture off the net to help.
Cheers
James.

Wind Forecast - which one is right?
Submitted by paulsmez on Tue, 2012-12-04 11:21For the last few days Seabreeze has been forecasting considerably lighter winds today than BOM (Bureau Of Meteorology) has.
I emailed Seabreeze to find out why and they reckon they don't source their info from BOM, although they wouldn't say where they did get it.
I thought BOM was the official source of all the weather info.
I was wondering which websites people have found most accurate for forecasting weather and wind off the coast around Perth?
Cheers

shark bay
Submitted by Gaffatron on Mon, 2012-12-03 16:05hey all
heading to shark bay for new years gonna take my chances with the winds, have done alot of reading on here and decided we will spend a few days out the end of the peron point walking from skipjack point to peron point flicking plastics along the sand flat - would it be worth taking poppers for GT's are there many about out the end? and have many people had luck with mackies drifting baloons out? also are there many reefies/lemon sharks out there to have some fun with?
we were keen to do a day trip to steep point go and have a look around, never been there before - is it ok for people who arent campin there to flick some lures around the end? or is it a bit tight out there?
cheers in advance

Forrest Beach Closure
Submitted by Howard George on Mon, 2012-12-03 11:14Went up to Forrest beach this morning hopeing to do some fishing and it's still closed off to vehicles. The Capel Shire said they would give the Forrest family until the end of Sept. to pull the fence down or else they would prosecute them but nothings happened. It'll probably end up like the end of the Busso. jetty where they shut it off to fishers for ten years and then said we no longer have a connection to the ammenity so buzz off and now it's Forrest Beach.

Brief Busselton Trip
Submitted by Bruce on Sun, 2012-12-02 20:15With the weather average on Friday, we decided to head to Augusta to view the Lighthouse and the meeting of the Southern and Indian Oceans. Water was ferocious and the swells were huge. Water was a murky brown colour for 50m out from the beach from the construction of a new boat ramp
Saturday headed to Bunker Bay for a fish but the weed made it almost unfishable albeit having favourable winds. Managed to reel in 35000kg of weed and thats about it! Had an evening fish infront of where we were staying at Abbey Beach and caught a decent whiting and some tarwhine/ silver bream. The brownish water colour had faded to just a 1m strip along the beach which didn't seem to effect the fishing.
Sunday morning headed down the beach, nice and flat water, and caught a decent bag of whiting, ranging from probably 15-25cm. Would've been more but a bastard seagull enjoyed 80% of my squid bait for breakfast while I wasn't watching! The culprit is identified in the photo! All fish bar one were released well. Rig was just a 3 way swivel with a long shank and star sinker to hold in sand. Biat was squid strips.
Was a good short break with a bit of exploring, fishing and relaxing.
Cheers

PE2-3 model in 6-4ft 150gram I can pick it up on the way out of Bankok back to Australia for $500US.
lowrance hds navionics platinum card wanted
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sun, 2012-12-02 13:00its been asked before but only in the gold i thought.
i am chasing for my cousin a navionics platinum card for a lowrance hds10,
it has to cover the whole of W.A, not interested in over east, but if that is the cheaper option, or what you have then so be it.
i have looked on ebay and was hoping someone local could supply at a good price.
anyone know the cheapest place to buy, either local or online?
thanks in advance.

GPS/ fishfinder which one ?
Submitted by twicther on Sun, 2012-12-02 10:48I am in the market for a new sounder/GPS unit and was hoping for some feedback on preferences. At present 2 local blokes have suggested Lowrance HDS 5 or 7 gen 2, the hummingbird ci hd di comes highly recommended on one forum i read. I am sure there are plenty of options but for ease of use, reliability and after sales service, what would be the right choice ?

leisure craft mono hull c/c
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sun, 2012-12-02 08:21my mate Andy has just got himself a new boat, a 6mtr leisure craft c/c, i didnt know they made mono hulls?
apparantly its the only one, special build he was told, can anyone confirm?
went out for a test run with him on sat 1/12/12, in some shitty condintions to wet a line.
i have never been in a c/c before so not sure how to judge it?, the only thing i can say is...not for me!!
we went to a spot south of point peron in the 30s, that andy has got some small sambos from before.
i decided it was a no bait day for me and pesisted with the jigs and placcys for the whole day, i have been watching ben(goodz) who will persist with artificals and normaly come up with fish of the day!!
sorry to dissapoint you ben, i failed missreably
with only a couple of sargent baker getting on my jigs.
the boys on the bait did well, no sambos wanted to play the game but a suprize to Andy was a couple of pinkys and a nice queeny, along with all the other shitty fish.
all fish where returned strong, except for the baker that donated himself as bait.
i am sure andys tub and mine will be fishing together for a while now, he loves his fishing more than i do!!
couple of pics of andys first fish on the new tub.

Monster Cape Kingies
Submitted by Seaquest on Sat, 2012-12-01 18:33Made a last minute decision today to head out for a fish. Bit of an uncomfortable trip out with southerly winds and a huge swell running. Fingers crossed the forcast was going to be right and the wind would drop. Lucky for us it did.
The plan today was to jig a few kingies that turn up at this time of the year. First drift and it was on, a small one for me and Dave from Dunsborough Outdoor Sportz pulled in one of the fattest YTK I have seen from the Cape Nat area.

Dave got a bit excited and tried to spoon it. Talk about someone who loves their fishing.
\
Managed to jig up a few more YTK, sambos and one amberjack in the next few drifts. The photo below shows the average size of the the kingies.

My biggest for the day which was 5cm longer than Daves but was nowhere near the same weight.

Another cracking session on the kingies down south. Think I will be a bit sore tomorrow.
