Hey can anyone recommend a good marine mechanic that specifically knows Volvo Diesels, especially the KAD 43 motor. Doesnt seem to be alot around, the few ive found are pretty expensive, and also seem to be like a 3 week wait to get anything done. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

As some of you may know its snapper season in Victoria, and boy oh boy are they running hot.

Got out for my first session on the weekend. Had the lines in the water by 430am andhad about 10 runs early with no hook ups . It was really strange as we were fishing single circles... so we were starting to think it might be one of those days. Anyway., as soon as the sun hit the water the action started to heat up.

In a three hour session we boated 17 fish (15 released), and dropped atleast 10. We had about three triple hook ups, and a quad... the action was non stop. It did slow down for a little bit so we got out the BBQ and right on time two rods buckled over. Average size for the fish was about 3.5kg, great fun on light gear. I also managed my PB of 7.6kg (89cm) on a 2000 size combo, took about ten minutes to get him up and I was wrapped. Here is a few photos from my iphone, picked the worst day to forget the gopro and memory card for the camera, it always happens like that. haha

Hi all,

Thought I might have a crack at prawning the next few nights, but I've never done it from land before so just after some tips. Went and picked up a prawn dab net and a pair of waders and have a led lenser headlamp to spot them at night.
Was just gonna head down to the sand flats either side of the boat ramp/channel at the end of Paris rd? If any other locals have any tips it would be greatly appreciated.

The jobsite I am on at the moment had a shed on it with a two rooms in it made and clad with jarrah planks.  The boss gave us the all clear to go in and get them out or else the shed would just be demolished so a couple of weekends ago my father and I went out and removed a large trailerload consisting of 27x ~225mmx~25mmx 4mt boards and more than 30 2x4"'s around 3mts long.  We put around half up into the trusses in our existing shed for storage and apparently that was too much because today while out at work, the bottom timbers in our centre trusses shed have broken dropping the timber, some older fishing rods, two surfboards, prawn nets etc on the ground.

The casualty list that I can see so far is my well used Gladiator Freshwater spin 2-4kg rod has had the top section broken halfway and a 120x120cm glass tabletop.

I use this rod for basically all my small species fishing, squidding, breaming, swan tailor trolling, whiting etc. It was a 7' rod, but I use it from the boat so often I think a 6' would be better and the action was just a little soft it was also a freshwater rod and it was mainly used for saltwater.  Im not looking to break the bank, but I am finding these days I prefer buying better gear and looking after it. The reel it will be used with is a daiwa exceller 2500 running 8 pound braid but I might be able to look at a new reel for christmas.

Suggestions?

It was very cool just as we reached totality. Within about 10 seconds it went very dark. Very impressive and you can see some Solar Prominences.

Hi ive recently bought items that were needed for me to build my first stand up game rod which will be used for trawling.

I will update the post as i progress but if anyone has any stories of their own rod building experience i think we would like to know

the rod is a 80lb blank with a bent butt gimbal

Just after getting back from my last fishing trip to Hervey Bay one of the boys had a serious motorbike accident, after the initial injuries he was lucky to survive and everything was looking like it was going to ok. Finally they got him in for an MRI, and tragically, it looks like he will never be able to use his left arm again. Was absolutely devastating news for him, his family and his friends. He is a keen fisherman, shooter, and paintballer, but now it looks as if he is not going to do alot of things the way he used to do them before. He is alive, which is amazing all things considered... but this is a massive knock for him.

Just wondering if anyone has seen, or heard of any ways a person with the use of only one arm can continue to fish. Hopefully one day we can get him catching some fish again.

Does anybody know if this cray hook is legal? Saw it advertised as legal but on gum tree so wasn't sure... Thought it might be the "blunt hook" in the fisheries rules?

hay guys i am looking at buying a diawa saltist LD 40 overhead reel and i am wondering what rod and what pound line i should match it up with.

i will mainly be bottom bouncing, jigging and trolling but will also go out on busso jetty for some mulloway, i might use it to float live baits out the back of the boat.

Does anyone know 100% what the legal MAXIMUM towing length of a boat trailer is on WA roads?

AND what is the legal MAXIMUM towing length of a boat in WA?

Does the size of the vehicle towing the trailer and boat come into the equation?

Also is the max weight dependent on the vehicle towing it or is there also a max legal towable weight when it comes to a boat and trailer?

Wanting to go test my new surf combo but last time I was down the beach (trigg fri morn) it was chockas with weed like I've never seen before. Any clear beaches within about 45min/1hr drive of Scarbs? no 4b.

trolled on the river for tailor on sunday afternoon, between dalkeith and chidley point.  hooked two, but both jumped and in the process threw the hooks.  i was using a metal slice with one treble on the back end.  am i doing something wrong to lose both when they are umping or is that par for the course?  Also what are people's opinions for lures for river tailor?

Has anyone redyed their braid after its faded? Any particular product and process that worked well? Would normal permanent fabric dye work and last? Dont see the point in replacing perfectly good braid if its faded, and yes I have reversed it on the spool.

 hey guys, im doing an assignment for school where i need to write a newspaper article on a topic, i chose the topic landbased shark fishing. so i was wondering if any of you could give me your opinions on shark fishing and some dangers about shark fishing for example; dangers for the shark fisherman, dangers for the shark like will it survivie after being caught. any other topics that you feel would be suitable to bring up in my article are welcome. i basically just need as much information on shark fishing and the dangers and stuff!

as i do it now oftenly lanbased

just wanting to know whats my benefits for using circles for big sharks

besides the fact i know the hook up is more secure in the side of the jaw

the main purpose of a circle

but i deploy my baloons out lanbased of jettys or yaks from 200-400metres out

using hole big baits such as snook salmon etc

but i am unsure of the hooking up part

using 50 and 80ws

on 400-600lb wire traces

if i get a run

what do i do exactly do ensure best possible to hook up

as ive always fished with standard J hooks such as owner jobus i usually let the shark run 10-20 seconds then put it to strike and then wack it a few times

i am unsure if i do this with a circle being so far out with slack it mite pull the hooks

what would i do in this situation?

 planning on heading over and fishing the broome billfish comp again been over 10 years since we fished it so abit changed

with heading over there to fish will we need a fishing license or boat rego or any other things to fish over there during the comp ??

 also do they have a decent ramp over there yet  we used to pay a fella to launch our boat from the beach  near gathiam point i think it was

 i seen a pic a while ago with a tractor launching a boat there is that a private setup or can you pay to be launched there ???

So, we're coming up to the start of cray season this week and there are a few divers on this site, so wondering who's getting back in the water, and who's staying out on account of biteys?

I for one, will be in the water :D  A life lived in fear is a life half lived (although I will be taking a shark shield...). Still more danger of drowning unfortunately.

Hey All - I've been wanting to take my Son for a fish for quite sometime now. Mainly looking to fish North of River, for tailor, or possibly the mighty Mollus.

Each time we hit the beach, it black ... seaweed everywhere!

Took him for few lure casting teaching sessions, and he's now very good in casting medium/heavy ones. All he wants now is to battle a nice Tailor, on a lure.

Any help on location would be much appreciated

 Just wondering about the access ability of the creek system south of dampier......I've got a 474 stacer......does it need to be high tide for the boat ramp and to get in there or is it deep enough to get in there all the time?......also can I launch straight into the creek somewhere?
