Fishing Dampier lately
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2012-08-27 11:20Is it me loosing the Mojo, or has it been slow out there lately.
Went out Friday evening/night for one nice spangly, a forktail catfish (Man I rate them as true fighting beasts) and a blue bastard (dusky sweetlip). Saturday had to baby sit a visiting eye specialist and show him the scenes. Got a fish in and I scored a magnificent bluebone, everyone else Nada.
Stayed on a shack so out early after the mini hangover that just seem to accompany shack stays, and slow as a wet week. Beyond Legendre, trolling, bottom bouncing, squiding (got a few off these) for 2 keepers bewtween 3.5 fishers. I basically re-rigged as the noahs was thick.
Just wondering, because normally where we go you are almost gaurenteed a feed.

What makes a dud second hand boat?
Submitted by old salt on Mon, 2012-08-27 10:16Hi all,
Next year I plan to buy an off shore capable second hand tub 5.5 + metres. So I'm wondering for those of you that have been burnt where did you go wrong? Did you have a mechanic look over the boat and motor before purchasing?
Logic tells me the number one thing that needs to be checked thouroughly is the motor and electrics? And a mandatory test run in rough weather is required to see how she handles.
So over to you guys what make a great second hand boat and what makes it a dud? And how honest overall did the sellers claim prove to be in your experience?

TWO ROCKS REPORT 20/8/12
Submitted by cahal.dahm on Mon, 2012-08-27 08:56Weather was looking really good last monday so we could not resist on taking out the bar crusher! 630 was the call to be at the ramp, driving up two rocks with fog everywhere was a good sign of no wind. Was at the first spot by 7 with the sounder lighting up but no love, next spot was not looking as promising but lucky enough we got a few good fish into the easy with 2 badlies and a few small dhuies. With not much happing we decided to heap a bit deeper, first drop one of the boys hooks a monster on the drop was called for a big dhu but pulled the hooks. Off to the next spot we came across a really good school of sambos, every drop was a hook up and double/triple hooks ups the norm, Steve and i decieded to drop our light gear down and put it to the test, we got smkoed a few times but also got a few on the light gear, I was stoked to get a few on pe2. In the end we could only fish 2 people at at time due to tangles, we landed over 15 sambos and left them biting. Off to chase more demersals, with not much happing we decided to pull the pin and head back in. All in all some of the best weather i have experienced fishing out in perth and the fishing was really good,
big thanks to Steve for the day!
Jigs thats stood out,

Submitted by mcfishing on Sun, 2012-08-26 10:51We have recently moved up and are scpoing out some spots for shore based fishing and mudcrabbing.
I am looking at the tides etc and can someonw let me know when is the best time to fish at the Point Samson Causeway. Do you go at a particular time between tides etc and what are the best reigs to use etc. Any other tips for shorebased fishing would be helpful.
I also want to take the kids to grab some muddies locally... any tips/times etc would be great. I grabbed a couple of nets to try out at Back Beach but want to try the mangrove flats at low tide etc.... havent tried either yet so any tips would be great.

Lending out your boat?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Sun, 2012-08-26 02:37Just wondering how many of you would lend out your boat for a day to a mate if they asked? Even if they'd never been out in your boat before (but an experienced boaty all the same) and they didn't know those ins and outs of your boat and you had limited time to tell them. (few other little pieces of info here, but just wondering on general thoughts)

Is it illegal to burley for sharks from a boat?
Submitted by paulsmez on Sat, 2012-08-25 11:42I was talking to an experienced boatie about my plan of a boat based shark session involving copious amounts of burley and he reckoned it was illegal to berley with the intent of attrracting sharks, at least within a certain (very long) distance of shore. Anyone know anything about this? It's the first I've heard and I don't want to end up on the wrong side of the fisheries dept.
Cheers.

Point Perron Boat Ramp
Submitted by Fraser 5.25 on Fri, 2012-08-24 12:17Went down to the Point Perron boat ramp last night to lauch my boat so that I could change out the old rollers on my boat trailer for some new ones with the boat off and they have barricaded off the 2 launching bays closest to the Sea Rescue building. Have they done this to fix all the pot holes or is there something wrong with the jetty there?

so im off to steep
Submitted by bitten on Thu, 2012-08-23 21:35so im off to steep point in march
hit me with your tips
i would really like to know about braid for spinning upo there as i have nnot had much use for braid untill now but i think it will really maximise casting distance
if you think about it if your lure is cast an extra 5 metres over 1000 casts then you drag your lure an extra 5000m than you otherwise would. more time in the water should equal out to more fish if you ask me
cheers guys

How can I find a bloody Sambo?
Submitted by Spitfire56 on Thu, 2012-08-23 21:19Hello all
Its my first year fishing Perth- I have a 5.75m Cruise Craft with a 150hp 4 stroke Yamaha and have fished from Cockburn to Mindarie and have been lucky in landing a couple of Dhufish and other table fish. But I can't find Sambos! I have read countless posts where people complain about plagues of these fish destroying their day and would be greatful if someone could offer some advise as I would be happy to be stretched - getting a bit sick of heading off over the horizon 20-30km whenever weather permits for very little action- can you find good numbers near by? Are there areas that I should focus? Have read everything I could find on the net and prefer to fish Ocean Reef or Mindarie, have tried baits, jigs ect Any help would be great thanks

Three Mile Reef
Submitted by tim-o on Thu, 2012-08-23 20:55Just wondering what everyone refers to when they quote this, I was under the impression the three mile reef runs along a fair bit of the NOR coast about 3 mile offshore (consisting of several reef systems) where it rises from the 20s and where the breakers are visible from shore when the swell is up, but have seen a patch of reef named that, pretty much straight out from Ocean Reef on a chart. Is it that specific reef structure everyone fishes and trolls the back of, or is it 'the stretch of reef' I refered to?

scaling bag
Submitted by Cameron71 on Thu, 2012-08-23 15:41HI all,
I want to get a scaling bag to drag behind a boat and take the scales off smallish fish with.
Two questions:
- is one much as good as another or is there a brand that I ought to go straight to?
- If you take off the head and cut the belly, will the water clean the fish out as well?
