ETEC no more...
Submitted by Darren253 on Thu, 2020-05-28 07:07BRP (TSX: DOO; NASDAQ: DOOO) announced today it has re-oriented its marine business by focusing on the growth of its boat brands with new technology and innovative marine products. The company will discontinue production of Evinrude E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines. Its Sturtevant, Wisconsin facility will be repurposed for new projects to pursue BRP’s plan to provide consumers with an unparalleled experience on the water.
Following BRP’s decision to discontinue E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines, the company has signed an agreement with market leader Mercury Marine to support boat packages and continue to supply outboard engines to their boat brands. BRP says they will continue to supply customers and dealer network service parts and will honor manufacturer limited warranties, plus offer select programs to manage inventory. These decisions will impact 650 employees globally.

Light demersal SP/jig outfit
Submitted by ctan1968 on Tue, 2020-05-26 07:57Hi all,
I understand that this type of thread has been mentioned countless of times before.
Just wanting to have a spare set up on board just in case I've had a gutful of the 16oz sinker and smelly bait on my hands.
Traditionally fish up to 30m and would like to try SP or jigs up to approx 120g ish.
Heaps of online info out there with regards to reels, lines and rods.
Pretty well decided the reel - Shimano 4000 size.
With the rods, there are 2 types which are online but I'm struggling to find them locally to see what they are like:
ROD 1
NS Black Hole S583 (5'8")
PE 3
40-160g jig
ROD 2
Storm Gomoku Kaiten blue (6') - white rod with blue grips.
PE 1-3
up to 160g jig
Also, would PE 3 line be a general rule of thumb for offshore demersals?
Both are online from the east and super cheap as they are older stock. Hoping some people have or know about these 2.
Cheers in advance
Chris

Ningaloo in June
Submitted by samd on Mon, 2020-05-25 14:21Hey guys.
chasing some info on weather and Ningaloo fishing in June. For the last 6 years we have hit the station in April but due to the restrictions we missed out this year... just booked 3 weeks in June! It looks a lot cooler in June (normally we sweat our balls off!!) should we expect much rain or a difference in the wind patterns?
Do the cooler water temps affect the fishing at all? I would assume less Bills and more tuna? Do the mackies and hop slow down at all? Do the demersals move in closer as the water cools? Not asking for spots (I have plenty!) just some general info so we are correctly prepared for this year!
Cheers,
Sam

Prawning
Submitted by Sea Hunter on Sun, 2020-05-24 17:03I've been fishing for many years but never contemplated prawning. There is such little info on recreational prawning, particularly in the Southwest. I figure you lot would be a wealth of knowledge. Topics to cover could be: tides, moon phase, general areas to look and target, favourite gear and everything else i failed to mention.

Whales last few weeks and today
Submitted by little johnny on Sat, 2020-05-23 18:30Obvious today guy cutting a whale free from ocean reef where pro pots ( they use lead lines or leads) to weigh lines down . Guy other day cutting whale free from net . Was facing fine , but was dropped. Load of c@-p. Point being lead lines on pots doesn’t work . So we loose pots for no reason . Is guy going today going to get charged for tampering with pots. Wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Jurien in bad weather
Submitted by Bradmac73 on Fri, 2020-05-22 15:46
Heading to Jurien next week and the weather look shite for Mon Tues and the swell still pretty average for the rest of the week as far as getting out to the 40s-50s .
Anyone had any joy fishing inside the reef over the shallower ground? Looks to be some half decent areas heading out on the north lead in 10-15 m depth range?
Or should I just take more beer and leave the boat on the trailer?
cheers

Stuck Anchor
Submitted by Darren253 on Thu, 2020-05-21 21:41Got my anchor stuck tonight in 16m of water south of Rotto? Any divers fancy a trip out with me to retrieve it? I've marked it and left a line and float attached on the surface so should be easy to find.
Plan b will be to go back and retrieve as much chain as I can but it was a loosing battle in the dark tonight.
Carton of your choosing and gratitude pending!
Cheers,

Splicing Transducer (p66 5 pin-->lowrance 7 pin)
Submitted by saltyseamen on Thu, 2020-05-21 17:45Hey guys,
Has anyone spliced a transducer before?
I have just bought a P66 that has a 5 pin on it at the moment and I want to put a 7 pin Lowrance fitting onto it. I'm aware that I can buy an adapter but thought i could possibly just splice something that I already have.
Any tips or things i should be aware of?
Cheers.

Best baitcaster combo for light lures under 100
Submitted by ElliottAugust on Thu, 2020-05-21 01:18
I’m looking to get a rod and reel for my lighter section in my tackle box for stuff like senkos and weightle ss worms and some light jerkbaits. I only have 100 dollars and still need power to pull a fish in. I don’t like spinning reels so that’s why I would like a baitcaster combo. Preferred hight would be around 7ft.

Sounder overheated
Submitted by Fathom on Sat, 2020-05-16 16:06I've got a Lowrance HDS live 7 and yesty she put up an overheated warning and it was extremely hot to touch. I shut it down but remained hot for 20 mins so I disconnected the power to it. I have it wired to my accessories at the helm. Should I re_wire straight to the batteries or.........? I would appreciate any advice to help me get this sorted before my boat ends up on fire. Cheers
