Deep Frying Fish
Submitted by Seaquest on Thu, 2010-11-11 18:32Just after a few tips on deep frying fish. I have a heap of gummy shark that I was going to try deep fried.
What is the best oil to use and what can be reused.
Also after a good recipe for a batter.
Any tips would be much appreciated.

Mono vs Braid with top shot for shark fishing ?
Submitted by J Déjà Vu on Thu, 2010-11-11 15:34ay fellas im inexperienced in the sharking game
looking at buying a new tiagra 30lrs or 30svw
i am unsure wether to spool it with braid or mono
as i doo want at least a 1km of minium 50lb
i already have a 30lrs tiagra spooled with 1100 m of 30lb mono
so thats my lighter setup
now one a bit heaver as all mi fishin will be done off jettys and wil hav to be balloooned out about 300m
i may even upgrade to a size 50vsw or 50lrs but i find ther a bit bulkeyer for jetty fishing.
so my question is in shark fishing should i spool the 30vsw / lrs with xample 50lb braid then do a top shot of 50/80lb mono
or stick with jst mono
im abit stuck on this one i no theres no rights or rongs but in my situation wat would be best from you experience and knowledge
thanks boys

rod advice
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Thu, 2010-11-11 09:17Hi guys
Im after some advice suggestions on a couple of rods to add to the stockpile:
1) baitcaster- around 30lb, 6.5 foot: to be used in airly heavy saltwater applications, paired with a abu revo toro spooled with 30lb. about the only things ive found that come close to fitting the bill are a daiwa zillion rod and the egrell bear B6 (havent seen one of these in the flesh yet, if anyone has, what are they like?)... both the tcurve and gloomis range dont seem to have something quite heavy enough...?
2) spin: about 6.5-7 ft: 20lb, paired will a sol 4000... fast action etc... for plastics/ stickbaits/ metals etc.. any suggestions?
dont mind paying somewhere around the $200-400 for each...
thanks in advance for any advice

Submitted by Dirt on Wed, 2010-11-10 15:56Hey guys, looking to buy a new reel for gamex next year, already have the tiagra 30w for my 15kg outfit
and am looking to buy a 50w for my 24kg outfit.I was intending to buy the tiagra 50w lrs but after some research and speaking
to the staff at bluewater tackle im seriously looking at the okuma makaira 50w11,they seem to be an exceptionly well built reel
and they really seem to of done there homework.I think the main issue for most people will be getting there head around the fact
that they have okuma stamped on them,

Problems with Navman Fish 4500 at depth
Submitted by dkonig82 on Wed, 2010-11-10 13:17Just wondering if anyone has used a Navman Fish 4500 at moderate depth? Say over 100m on the standard tranny?
Im finding mine loses the bottom as soon as I get over the 100m mark, and is patchy even from around 85m. This is on 200khz, 50 doesnt seem any/much better.
Dont know whether to trade up the sounder or the tranny, or if this is just a configuration issue. Saw the HDS post up there about getting into 300m with a 600watt tranny so thinking I should be fine with 100m.
They advertise that the unit can get depth at 1000m and I have heard of others in the states using them at around 450ft+ with no worries, so wondering if its a setting or something?

Wednesday funny?
Submitted by buschy on Wed, 2010-11-10 10:57Just received a text from user 'simmo ryan' who is up in Exmouth with 'shaw_catch' and another mate. It is day 3 for them and after catching plenty of small GTs and dropping a few queenies LB they decided to hire a boat today.
Simmo landed a nice golden trev and during the photo the fish gave a good shake.
Simmo now has a treble stuck in his hand and is en route to Exmouth hospital!!
Sounds like he doesn't find it as funny as I do though!

bee hive cray pots.
Submitted by sp4lyf on Tue, 2010-11-09 21:45amping for cray season so me and my dad have knocked up some bee hive pots from 8mm reo bar. we followed the specification on the fisheries website and all but were still unclear on what is allowed to go on the outside..
we were thinking of putting just rabbit wire. like the real thick gauge stuff...does any1 know if ur alowwed to or does it HAVE to be cane. any1 heard of using thick split bambo because i know that bends well.
cane isnt that accessible for us at the moment and tea tree would take forever..

The not so big carp.
Submitted by sp4lyf on Tue, 2010-11-09 21:11As u may hav read from the western australian, the carp from the margaret river is now long gone. :)
we ended up wacking it with a 120mm gun after hours of intensive searching...
i regret to admit that it's not as big i thought before. i spose i thought it would have grown a bit more. genuinely sorry guys :( it weighed a 6.6 kilos and measured only 72cm
anyway. heres a bit of a recount: After we spotted it, Luke bailed over the side flooding our canoe full of gear. i told him to go quickly and ill get the gear back. i looked over to see him staking the fish with the loaded gun and just as he was in range it turned and began to run, hence the crappy gut shot, haha (i gave him so much crap for that), which is better than spending hours looking for it after it had been spooked. the fish but up a short but tough fight, going ballistic on the water surface. by now i had the gear and canoe ready and it was chucked in as we paddled back feeling stoked...

Closest boat launching ramp/location to Steep Point
Submitted by Sails4me on Tue, 2010-11-09 21:00Hey guys
Heading up to Shark Bay on Firday, and am keen to see if we can take the boat out to Steep Point. Could you please advise if there are any launching facilities near to Steep Point, or if we have to make the long treck out from Denham. Also how far is it from Denham to Steep Point via boat (nautical miles)?
Anyone else up there for the next week from Friday, send me a pm if you are keen for a catch up and fish.

Israelite Bay mud map
Submitted by westaus_ryan on Tue, 2010-11-09 19:16Gday fishos.
I'm just wondering how i can get my hands on any kind of map which outlines all the tracks that can take you from Fisheries road to Israelite Bay. Me and a couple of mates are gonna spend a couple of weeks out there over the New Year's break.
I'd be guessing i could find out from a servo or tackle store down in esperance, but i wanna spend a bit of time studying the maps before i get there (i live in freo).
Also, anyone who has done the treck previously, i'd love to hear about your experiences. I get the impression that i should be very well prepared before i take off, so any advice or knowledge you could pass on to me would be very, very much appreciated.
Cheers!

Sambos:

Out in the 300's. Still not sure if I like the way the bottom lock displays and the lack of fixed manual shift but it seems to get a good reading in 300m. Just tossing up whether to go 1kW.
