ANZAC day @ Wallabi group.
Submitted by t bone on Tue, 2016-05-31 08:47Started the day off nice and early. To my surprise the mother in law and her youngest turned up at home about 02:30 and we were on the water by 3am. It was a magical trip over, sitting around 26 knots the whole way whilst the 2 girls went to sleep in the bunk. Pulled up along side a buddies charter boat and wandered up to the school for one of the most moving dawn services yet. It was great to see a heap of the younger generation involved and the local lads doing the music was perfect.
Watching the sun come up and shine light over the rocky shores brings ya back to reality to just how lucky we are to have the ancestors fight for what what we have today. After the "mayor of big pigeon" chased each and every person down with his bottle of "KRAKEN" on the way to breakfast, the family and i piled back in the boat and snuck off around to Turtle cove, tied off to a mooring and the missus knocked up a breaky whilst having a few brews and reflecting on life.
We then started to make our way home with a few shots on the sounder peaking my interest, a few drifts and had a nice little mixed bag for dinner and continued on our way.
Whilst the missus had gone back into the bunk to sleep again, her little sis was keen to learn a bit about the boat, so she drove most of the way home, which gave me a chance to enjoy a tin or 2.
All in all, for 119Nm traveled, only burnt 181 ltrs and home, boat cleaned, fish prepped and sitting back on the veranda to watch the sun go down.

MURRAY RIVER MANNUM AREA
Submitted by wayne merritt on Mon, 2016-05-30 19:28We are hiring a houseboat in July out of Mannum in SA. I'm told the fishing won't be that great in July, but will wet a line anyway to make the bourbon taste better. Hope it's not all carp as some say.. Would appreciate any info on gear, baits etc that could assist in some fun during our 7 day stint heading north out of Mannum... Thanks.....

Fun with Herring
Submitted by HondaHoncho on Mon, 2016-05-30 17:33Herring fishing off southern beaches has been pretty amazing this year. I've been using Gibbs Minnows* from which the herring have shredded all the paint. This year my repaints have included nail polish finishes, which after nail polish clear coats, have been highly effective. They've outfished far more realistic Sea Rock minnows, in fact.
* I buy handfuls of these 1/4 oz - 2 oz minnows from Canadian Tire (C$5.49 + tax). Their trebles are pretty ordinary. I replaced them with top-quality trebles and instantly doubled my catch rate. Have taken larger species with them... and given their stomach contents, won't be all that surprised when a large mulloway ingests one... .
Trip North wrap up
Submitted by Troyboy on Mon, 2016-05-30 13:03We set off about 3 weeks ago with plans to stop and camp at a few spots including Kalbarri, Quobba, Coral bay and Exmouth with a couple in between.
Day one went out of Kalbarri with a local and managed to snap my rod after about 3 casts (Penn didn't Prevail). a few solid bites and dropped fish but nothing to show for the first night.
Next stop Denham, wind practicality ruined any chance of getting the boat out so squid off the jetty at night had to do, manged about 25 over a few days.
For the third stop it was onto quobba, unfortunately the swell was huge and no luck getting onto any of the good casting platforms... the water was green and not much was being caught but I did get a decent spangeld emperor and a few bust offs by what felt like BIG pinkys. then the sharks came in.
Coral bay for the third camp, took the boat out once and had a look around nothing worth reporting. Day 3 one of the other fellas was kind enough to take me out on his boston whaler, a good day on the water with a few fish for the freezer for all. Pearl Perch, red throat, gold band and a few different cod. pulled up a decent bronzie from 140m just to make sure it wasn't something edible and an amberjack. An Echidna under the tent was interesting.
Last stop up to Exmouth for a day out on local charter, who delivered the goods, no records broken but I got my GT, long tail and pb Queenie.
Good trip, just trying to convince the mrs we need a bigger boat

Beach camping
Submitted by Comrad on Mon, 2016-05-30 11:22Hi Everyone,
I was hoping to ask if anyone knew about places to camp on/near the beach around the Mandurah/Bunbury region. I know this hs been discussed in threads before, but, they're a bit older and I was wondering if anyone had any new information. We're thinking of going over the long weekend. When its just me, I have a pretty simple camp which packs up real quick, and I've camped at Preston Beach before, the ranger was pretty cool with it since I was fairly discrete.
The group thins time wants to take roof top tents, etc... which I think will probably attract the attention of the ranger far more. Does anyone know anywhere either on the beach, or close to the beach where you can set up a camp, that isn't a caravan park, etc...? We're more keen on having a more private camp. Anyone's thoughts would be appreciated.

I caught a 70cm pinky today and was pretty happy. Once I got home and filleted the sweet animal I was confronted by what looked like parasites that you may see in a sambo.Has anyone encountered this most foul invasion of a prime specimen?

Beach fishing long weekend
Submitted by striker on Sat, 2016-05-28 07:28Hoping to head to wagoe for the long weekend but got me thinking about other peoples favourite beach destinations and why?
Wagoe is a firm favourite as long as the swell is doable the options abound, beach at night for mulloway, tailor and sharks or the reef for pinkies with a balloon out n the easterly.
So what's your favourite?

And another 3 bite the dust - well done again fisheries
Submitted by meglodon on Wed, 2016-05-25 10:29Page 6 of todays Mandurah Coastal Times has a story about 3 people Hannah Din, Eh Ku and Dunan Sun facing court over the taking of under size carbs. They got a good tongue lashing from the magistrate and Din and Ku were also fined $1000 plus $4250 mandatory penalty for taking 85 under size crabs with some of them measuring just 69mm.
The magistrate also fined Dunan Sun $200 with a mandatory fine of $7400 for taking 148 under size crabs.
Two of Suns co-accused pleaded not guilty and will appear in court later this year.
It was also reported a fourth accused faced court eerlier this year and was fined the same amount.
Well done Fisheries.

New rod
Submitted by Terry on Mon, 2016-05-23 16:57Gday everyone....
Looking at a new rod or 2 for the wife and myself. We will soon be off on our venture around the country and will be trying to get a feed from time to time. Something up to the 3m length. Will be used mainly off the beach to catch say, whiting to Tailor and maybe Salmon. Casting a Mulie or some other sort of bait. 20-25lb line and an egg beater reel.
Any recommendations ? Something mid range as far as $$$ go. I do realise there may be lots to choose from .And then there will be reels too .Will leave them to a bit later maybe.
Thanks in advance
Terry

Warroora Station - Maggies
Submitted by nicksta711 on Mon, 2016-05-23 16:35Hi Guys,
heading up to warroora next week for my third time there.
the last 2 times i just had a dinghy and have stayed at sandy point and the lagoon. this time im taking my 5.5mtr plate ali centre console along with a mate bringing a 5.2mtr runabout.
launching at the lagoon is way too hectic for my liking, but the best fishing seems to be out from it. sandy point is great for launching, but usually the campsites are full and its a fair way out of the santuary south from there.
i was wondering if anyone had information about maggies (tried searching, but not much information.) i was thinking about launching at sandy point then mooring up at maggies. (i have a decent mooring setup)
ive had a look on google earth and it looks protected, but last time i was there when the weather was up it was a bit sketchy
has anyone stayed at maggies and moored there? or any other recommendations about other campsites or advice in general. thanks
