TACKLE BOXES
Submitted by fishentology on Wed, 2012-08-15 18:24trying to figure out what would be the best tackle box.
I have a boat (670 bar crusher ht) but when we go out fishing i like to have every opition avaliable to me. i think it might be due to to much gear but thats bullshit you can never have enough.
Ive got gear for bottom bouncing (minus sinckers) jigging(already got bags for jigs) casting lures (twistys, poppers etc) deep deep drop gear.trolling etc.
You name it Ive got it. but i need a tackle box to hold enough gear to support a little bit of everything.
ive already got four tackle boxes. One for the river, one for light shore bash, one for heavy shore bash, and one for shallow water fishing(10-25m water)
but its the big tackle box thats hard to find plus there not cheap not to worried about price as long as its good.

Hope for fisho's affected by green sanctuary zones???
Submitted by barneyboy on Wed, 2012-08-15 17:49Was thinking about these sanctuary zones today.
I dont really know if it is possible or really how or if it can be done but lodging a "class action" by the people being affected.
The reason. To be compensated in some way for loss of areas to fish by either, getting a reduction in the size of the area, getting that area moved to another area, getting some artificial reefs and wrecks for an area we can fish.
It would take some type of petition to be used in court and probably a really good lawyer or QC but I think it is possible!!
Just a thought!!
Is something like this possible??
Keep Australia Fishing Rally details
Submitted by scottywiper on Wed, 2012-08-15 17:33Fight for your fishing rights by joining fellow anglers in a convoy and rally on August 29. We want to see lots of cars towing boats joining the convoy, with a rally at Langley Park from 4pm to follow the convoy. This is your chance to let people know you care about the future of recreational fishing and don't want to see anglers locked out of Australian waters.
Those who want to join convoys can meet at Leeuwin Boat Ramp and Hillarys Boat Ramp just after 2pm, for a departure at around 2.30pm.
Then the main gathering is at Langley Park.
We want to see lots of signs, placards, etc with messages like "I Fish I Vote" and "Don't Lock Us Out".
We'll have guest speakers at the rally.

Richter Clone Stickbaits
Submitted by Buz on Wed, 2012-08-15 15:52Was just down at a Getaway Outdoors and saw these things for the first time. They looked pretty good, and i liked the fact that they had some Heavy models(unlike most stickbaits being rather light).
So of course i had to buy a couple to test out on my next trip for Tailor up the Coral Coast.
Anyone else used them?

I want to do some popping for GT's but they don;t seem to know much about it. Has anyone been there who could offer some advice on where abouts around the reefs big GT's are most likley to be found? Any advice would be much appreciated. I'll put a post up with a report and some pices when we get back :)

Hows the form of this bloke..lol
Submitted by wadetolley on Tue, 2012-08-14 20:33Been doing a bit of reading up on snapper... come across this article http://www.truebluefishing.com.au/snapper_fishing_23.html ..couldnt believe what i was reading.
This is part of the article that made me scratch my head...and he is a charter operator?????
Local knowledge
Snapper love structure, they feed over various patches of reef, gravel or broken bottom and to target and catch them consistently, offshore anglers must know how to locate these areas.
Good local knowledge is the key, Knowing the marks for a good range of snapper producing grounds is essential for successful Snapper fishing. There are various ways to find these marks, a good place to start is the internet, local fishing clubs, Books and magazines will also yield GPS marks. Another option is to go out with a local fishing charter operator and note land marks or take a hand held GPS and record a few waypoints.

rod/reel choice
Submitted by robert1979 on Tue, 2012-08-14 20:18Hi,
I am after a new rod/reel for beach fishing and have a couple of questions.
Firstly, I have been fishing with more with lures recently, is it better to use a shorter say 9/10ft road rather than the 12ft I am currently using? Was considering Shimano starlo classix 1062 - would this be a decent choice? 12ft seems a bit clumsy for fishing with lures. I was thinking 10ft may be a bit more versitile.
I am also considering getting a boat outfit at some point, so can I kill two birds and get a reel that is suitable for both shore and boat rather than buying two cheaper seperate reels. I was looking at something like a Shimano Saragosa 5000.
Cheers,
Rob

Kalbarri
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Tue, 2012-08-14 14:03Hi all,
I have a week booked in Kalbarri next week and was chasing some info on what species I should be targeting at this time of year? I have a 4x4 as well as possibly towing a 5.5m boat up from Perth. What should I expect to catch from the beach/boat and would it be worth towing the rig up?
Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Thank you Oceanside Marine & Tackle
Submitted by OX on Tue, 2012-08-14 12:46Hi all just a quick thank you to all the staff at Oceanside for their assistance with my reel repairs. I can not reccomend anyone else who would go to the level of help that I have recieved from these guys when I had to organise repairs to 2 of my reels. They went out of their way to book the repairs through warrenty, so all I had to do was to do was hand the reels over and they did the rest, saving me a hell of alot of leg work (especially as one of the reels was a gift purchased from a different tackle store). Once again guys thank you for your professionalism and assistance in this matter. If anyone ever needs help with anything fishing related do yourself a favour and go and see the lads at Oceanside.
For all the people who will call me a suck up for doing this, I am doing this without the staffs knowledge at all. I just like to thank people who have good customer service and believe that these type of businesses should be recommended on.
Cheers OX

shallow water sambo ground
Submitted by grayzeee on Tue, 2012-08-14 10:16Hey guys
I've haven't had much shallowish water sambo action to speak of , and am interested to know if there's anything special about ground you find them over.
I tend to avoid the large lumps marked on the charts. Is that where I'm going wrong?
I'm talking about fishing inside of d bank but out further than 3 mile. , and not anchor and burleying.
Love to get into some, whilst not feeding the sharks.
Cheers

Photo or info of tyrnos 8 or preferably 10 underneath
Submitted by scano on Sun, 2012-08-12 20:43Hi guys,
Just did a carbontex drag upgrade on my tyrnos 10 single speed
I am wondering if anyone on here has the same type of reel?
The reason I ask is I want to make sure I have put the main body back together the right way
I stripped it completely and oiled the bearings, greased the gears ect whilst I had it apart.
The problem I have is that it appears that you can put the actual main body / housing back together any way and it is about the only thing I did not take note of prior to disasembly
The only real difference I can notice is that the main body has 2x drain holes for water ingestion underneath each side of the reel foot. I currently have these 2x holes facing towards the top part of the reel.
If anyone has a tyrnos 10 or 8 I would really apprecite it if you could attach a pic of in from underneath
I have scoured the Internet and can only find photos taken from the top of the reel
Not that I think it will make any difference to the reel at all because it all operates as per normal and appears to be able to be mounted either way

snapper
Submitted by FIFO Fisho on Sun, 2012-08-12 19:21evening fellas
looking too spend some time chasing LB pinkies while im on break from rock groins..which i have never attempted before have spent a bit of time scouring all the different threads about lb snapper fishing
need some clarification on a couple issues:
from what i can gather a rising tide is quite important as is moon phase (is this correct): one of the days im trying to lock in has a incoming tide from 5pm high tide not till 1130pm and its a new moon
Also what rig would be beneficial: a standard paternoster with lead too secure it to the bottom or would it be better drifting it down the water column and recasting as required or 2 snelled hooks on a leader swivel in between with a running sinker.
from what i can gather berley is essential ...??? i take it fresh squid will suffice for bait .. or even some rock crabs if i can get them..(what size ??)
and what style of hooks : standard or circle
will be running gear wise: 11ft ish beach rod with a Penn 950ssm loaded up with 25lb platypus pre-test
what lb leader would you recomend ::
any info would be greatly appreciated guys i know there is alot of questions

geralton overnight stay
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sun, 2012-08-12 18:12hey guys
my wife is not to keen on long distance in the car, we are heading up to denham at the end of september with the camper and i thought it might be a good idea to stay overnight in gero....its just for the night and leave early the nex morn.
somewhere cheap for 3 of us...i drive for a living and i would drive straight through no probs at all, but to keep the wife happy are thinking of options.
the camper takes to long to set up for one night, so any one got a good cheap place that will have room to park with the camper on the back??
cheers ron

Marine Park Rant
Submitted by spook on Sun, 2012-08-12 18:11Ok, so after having a look at this whole Marine Park saga I have found what all the fuss is about.
The spot that says 'TWILIGHT' looks like the only place in WA that will be cut off to recreational anglers. If this is what everyone is going crazy about it must be friggin' awesome!
Also Australia has 900,000 sq km of national park and 200,000 sq km of Aboriginal land that the bloody government wont let you shoot native animals on or bulldoze and develop. That is worse than the marine parks I would have thought, Instead of just rallying against marine parks whoever wants to join that party should maybe rally against all parks.
Out with conservation and in with Extinction?

It's a fish that I have alway heard heaps of people catching as by catch when bream fishing but they have always eluded me, most people say this is a good thing but I just wanna catch a couple to tick them off the list.. Any help would be really appreciated..

Nanofil
Submitted by trav32 on Sun, 2012-08-12 14:00I've been fishing 4 pound nanofil on my small stradic but find my knot connecting to my Fluro leader to break when I give it a medium-heavy tug between my two hands. I generally tie a double uni knot as these lines are so thin and I don't have the patience to tie a more complex knot when I can barely see the dental floss. I've read somewhere that people tie the double uni knot with the nanofil doubled over- is this a case of tying to a double using a spider hitch then using the double uni?
Otherwise the line is awesome and casts so far you can sell all your boats ;)

Alli crack/leak
Submitted by hekser on Sun, 2012-08-12 13:13Hey all, just wondering if anyone can suggest something here- had a crack in the hull- got it patched up but after taking it out yesterday- seems its still leaking. is it possible to do a weld over a weld? ill take it to a shop to get it done doesnt matter the cost- cant put a price on my life.
can they cut out the shitty weld and put a patch over it? its an older hull- rego papers say trimcraft ; im guessing 80s.. so it will be pretty average..
failing that should i just sikaflex and hope for the best?
cheers,
Hekser
