my young bloke is very close to getting his scooter lic and was talking about a rod/reel he can carry on the sooter to go for a fish.

i was thinking a 8ft telescopic would be a good alrounder, river/estury/beach that would fit in his backpack and not stick out 10mile.

so where/what to buy as i have no idea in this style without spending hundreds?

any info or links would be great, ive done the ebay look but they look like shit????

Thinking of fitting either a single or pair of LED work lights to either the rocket launcher or on  or just below the hard roof anyone done this before or have you fitted them anywhere else on the boat saves having to wear those little headlamps,any suggestions or advice cheers in advance

Just wanted to post some photos of my Whaler which has just come out of the mould...

Changing a few stock items now that Nigel and Chris have set up shop from Ocean Whaler marine in Rockingham- the original helm seat will go and make way for new item, the gel coat was a much debated topic until it popped out of the mould a week ago, a stainless folding bimini with hidden wiring to get into the shed plus plenty of other items still in discussion.

I think this is the best part of dealing with the owner operator- you ask or throw an idea into the ring and both Nigel and Chris want to have a go at it...

There is a very good reason why the Whaler is used in conjunction with Nomad sport fishing charters- it works for fisherman.

May require some deckies down Dawesville way to flick a few plastics soon.

More Photos- added photos of the stainless rails, folding T-top has arrived, console to fitted and motor has arrived today...

Added more photos- should have the stainless all wired up this week and fitted, sounder combo fitted to dash, deck wash and dual batteries sorted too.

Ocean Whaler Marine are also in talks with Lowrance to become a service provider- hopefully soon so I can get discount........

looking at getting a sounder/fish finder for my tinny and need advice/opinions on the DSI model lowrance are selling. I looked at the lowrance website and the screenshots of the underwater trees look awsum but i'm more interested to know how well it shows up reef/rocky structure. keen to hear opinions from people who have used dsi and what they think/how well does it show reef/rocky ground/fish etc? the boatshop my mate works for sells them but i'd like to hear what you guys think 1st

What is it lately with this swell the winds had died down the last couple of days but the swell is still about the 2.5 to 3 metre swell makes it uncomfortable to even go out in a big boat common wind gods Im on holidays

I got a couple of stone chips in the bottom of my boat on the way to exmouth recently and need to figure out a way of putting something across the bottom of the trailer to stop this.

 This would be my first non fishing related topic but it just came to mind so thought I would put it out there.

 I think we all have a favorite sport outside Fishing & footy and I guess an interest for how our aussie's or home country is going at the 2012 Games?.

 My self I have had some time off work and have been able to watch a fare bit of the Boxing, was good to see a few get past the first 32 and the light heavy  weight Damien Hooper get the win over the American which is a big effort.

 Little disappointing seeing the young aussie girl crying over a silver medal, but ha a lot of training and pressure there im sure.

G'day fella's,

It has come time for me and my mrs to head away and end our adventures in Perth, as due to work commitments. It has been a decent 6 months in the metro. But a man gotta do whata man gotta do.

Anyway, we are heading down for work in the Margaret River area, about 20 minutes south of it to be exact. The river Blackwood is going to be a short drive away. And From google maps and the past forum post searchs on "Augusta" and that area, I am getting fairly excited to say the least. I cant wait to head away down and get a few casts to check out whats lurking around.

Either way, as I have not ever been fishing much outside the metro area of perth, so all this is going to be a new experience for me, both freshwater in the rivers down that way, and of course the land based chasing for the sea monsters.

If any of you on here can give me some info on the situation on what is caught this time of year, maybe some pointers in the right direction, and any helpful hints or tips would be great. What type of baits, locations, that would be great. All hints for freshwater (blackwood or any other decent river within about an hours drive), and also any sea fishing landbased (no 4x4). Much appricated.

Even if there is anyone on here that is from the area, and is keen to meet up for a fish I will be willing to meet up and share abit of banter and hopefully catach a few fish for the dinner.

After posting about the old "pre-pinging" days in the other thread, and reading Crasny's comment it got me thinking about a cool find I had late last year.

It's a bit of a sentimental story, and many will think "get a grip mate", but I'm sure there must be a few other stories like this out there ?

Well technically this story doesn't include MY old boat, but is was a WTF moment for me, so here it is :

Some of my greatest memories were spent with my Grandad in the mid-late 70's fishing Geographe Bay in his original Pacemaker Trendsetter 175, "The Seaker".

Sadly the big C got him when I was 7, and the boat went to my Uncle where it sat in a shed for around 10 years before my aunty made him sell it.

(In the end the f#cking cow had an affair and took him for everything he had)

We were offered first choice, but my parents weren't in a position to buy or store it, and I needed to get myself a car.

I always kept an eye out for it, but it apparently went to Bunbury - so being in Perth made chances of finding it again pretty slim.

(I had thought about trying to find the owner via a rego search, but never did so)

Well a few years went by and I finished my degree etc, so was in a position to buy it, but I never got a sniff of its whereabouts.

I figured by this time it'd be well and truly past its use-by date.

Then another 20 odd years passed ........ 

About 6 months after I bought my current boat I was walking past the Hillarys ramps and saw this pale, faded baby-shit-brown boat with the white racing stripe about to depart the jetty.

"Nah", I thought....... surely not.

But something prompted me to run over there like a f#cking maniac and stop them leaving.

The boat was loaded with a pile of young Irish blokes who must have been thinking I was an axe-murderer, and (probably to their relief) I told them I reckoned this was my Grandad's old boat.

Sure enough, I looked down the side, and could see the unfaded section still showing the outline of the original painted name "The Seaker".

They were spun out about its history and were kind enough to hang around while I called my Mum to tell her I was looking at her dad's old boat.

Texted her a few pics and received a very happy / emotional call back - it made her millenium knowing it was still around nearly 43yrs after he originally bought it in 1969.

There was definitely a bit of fate involved finding it - we had a few delays in leaving the house, then got held up by a car accident, then i had an argument with the Missus because we were already running late but I still wanted to park near the ramps for a squiz as we walked past.

Funny thing was I asked them where & when they bought it, it turns out an ad I called a few months earlier was probably the same boat - but the seller sent me a crap video that wasn't worth a pinch of shit so I never followed up on it.

Anyways, thought I'd share the story - here's a few pics of the old tub in her hayday, and getting ready to leave with a bunch of Irish blokes earlier this year :

Going to the forementioned place this coming weekend regardless of weather as I have a birthday to attend. However I see it as an opportunity to wet a line landbased for the hope of anything I guess. Perhaps a sneaky Mulloway if they are caught there??? Can anyone suggest anywhere to fish that might produce whatever from the shore be it rock or beach. I have never been there before so any hints or ideas would be appreciated. Carton reward to anyone who leads me to a mulloway :P.

 Bought a tokushima TD-F5000 reel of eBay. Only a cheapy (50 bucks) but it came out of the box left hand drive!!! Doesn't appear to have the capability to change to right hand drive. Does anyone lse have the same reel and able to fix it. Thanks. 

 I have to say i stumbled accros FW maybe about 2-3 mths ago but only joined a few weeks ago and gotta say u guys/girls are a great bunch.  Not only have u helped me with locations, baits ect i also found out a way to use my webber to smoke some fish fillets mind u there not the size of fish u guys have all been catching but Bloody hell those herring, ling, bream tasted bloody nice smoked!  Thanks again to all that have helped now to catch me a decent Fishy to smoke!

 G'day guys. Myself and scottland have a booking on seasport this weekend, but with the current swell forecast at 5.5m, we are doubting if they will even go out. 

Just looking for some suggestions for places to travel as an alternative - keeping landbased generally. hopefully North of J-Bay. Scott doesn't want to drive too far, being the lazy person he is haha. Ideally, i would like to go Quobba/exmouth, but that really isn't on the cards. How does Kalbarri fish on a high swell? 

Whilst I understand that the ocean doesn't belong to me, I cannot believe the blatant spot stealing that was going on, on Saturday, off Mindarie. My brother has worked very hard to find good ground and has spent lots of hours working the around to see people drive within 10 metres of where you are fishing to Ping your spots left me feeling less than impressed.

This got even better when one boat load of guys came straight up to us, pinged the spot and then when we went up to ask them WTF! they said "we weren't fishing mate what's your Fuc=$ing problem". My problem, you dickhead, is that you should find your own spots or learn some ocean etiquette. If they had come up and said hi or even been half civilised the outcome might have been vastly different but their attitude , language and total bullshit story really had me fired up.

We took their Rego and a photo of the boat and I am still considering the name and shame as they clearly intended to go and steal everyones spots even though they "weren't fishing" with five rods, a sounder and bait??

There were several others that were circling like seagulls and triangulating the spots, clearly this is becoming the norm but it is piss poor in my opinion

What do you do, pull out the Shot gun and fire a warning across the bow, ram them and ruin your day or just suck it up and accept that some people clearly haven't learnt any respect. To their credit the others on the boat looked very sheepish but the skipper was being a right nob end

Anyone had a similar experience recently as i could not believe what i saw.

 Hey guys, was out last Thursday and we got a moray eel about a metre long! Do more people come across these and do people take them home to eat? My mates mum cooks them up but I didn't want the sly looking thing on the boat!
