Snapper closures and Dermal closure looming
Submitted by Tony Halliday on Fri, 2010-10-08 10:03well folks with the Sound closed to Snapper fishing from the 1 Oct already and the Dermal Closure a week away, it seems we need to get our options ready for the pelagic season.
Who's got what plans for the next two months???
I for one want to dust off the Sambo gear and get back into the bull-dog-fights,
then I really want to get a mackie or something good on the troll this year.

Boat lost at Ningaloo Station
Submitted by dallasthedog on Fri, 2010-10-08 08:12My brother in-law and sister have been camping at Ningaloo Station for the last 1 1/2 months. About 2 weeks ago their inflatbale tender (equipped with a dinky little outboard) went missing. They hadn't pulled the boat up onto shore far enough and sometime in the night it was swept away. They had a good search for it however had no luck.
I know this is a long shot but did anyone who was up that way find the dinghy? Happy to give you $100 bux for its return. They loved that little boat, it was part of the family.

Interesting catch at freshwater bay
Submitted by tailor marc on Thu, 2010-10-07 23:56Took my girlfreind fishin tonight to the local jetty down freshwater bay hoping for a nice bream.
This is the part where is gets really wierd. As we were walking to the jetty i said for some unknown reason " you should catch a seahorse tonight".
I dont know what gave me the idea. I have fished the swan river for 20+yrs and only caught one while fishing at point walter. It wrapped itself around my hook and i released it unharmed.
Around 8oclock Lisa got snagged then it came free. I was rigging up my rod and as she got the bait out the water i heard her say " oh my god , you said i would catch a sea horse and i have one"!!
What are the bloody chances of that!. I must be psycic!!!!!!!
Lucky this little guy wasnt hooked. He was hangin onto a lump of what looked like sea erchin or river erchin. Took a couple pics and let him go. What a spinout!

Harbour Dredging
Submitted by Juneka on Thu, 2010-10-07 12:49I went to an information night at EFYC on Tuesday - the Port Authority guy said dredging is ahead of schedule, and will be finished in 2-3 weeks. So, allowing a week for the crap to clear - we will be able to dive for some prawns before the cray season starts!!!

A question to the demeral jiggers out there
Submitted by Just1morecast on Wed, 2010-10-06 21:40Hi all,
Just a question on what reel you guys use when you jig/plastic for dhuies. I currently use a pfleuger supreme xt 9040 which is very very light but a drag of about 5kg. I feel it may be a little on the small side especially if i hooked up to a descent sambo so i may look for something new. Wouldnt have a huge budget but just wondering what you all use and if you think what im using is fine.
Thanks for all the help

Smith rod arrival
Submitted by Luke R on Wed, 2010-10-06 14:19hey all
Well sambo season is literally around the corner and with this ban coming in I’m sure a lot of you will be looking for other fish to target that will put a decent bend in your rods.
We have just received a great range of smith rods at the best prices in town!!! Smith rods are some of the finest jigging rods on the market today and we have priced them very competitively against other brands of rods to make them just that little bit more affordable. High quality components like fuji silicon carbide guides and fuji honey soft reel seats. Make sure to drop in and check them out
Below is some info on the amj range.
Offshore Stick AMJ - A specialized rod for technical jigging targeting Tuna and Yellowtail, with amazing slimness, lightness, maneuverability, and durability.
AMJ series, which are developed mainly to target tuna and yellowtail, are amazing jigging rods. The blanks are made of mid-high modulus graphite reinforced by kevlar graphite, which conveys angler’s technique to a jig accurately and quickly, and therefore, is optimal for technical jerk, like what is called “Hirado Jerk”.
Soft short tip section, long belly section with high tensile strength, and durable butt section are especially great for a maneuver to flip up a long, center-weighted balance jig and have it stay swimming long. Super high modulus and high strength kevlar graphite used from mid- belly section to butt section is so powerful that it does not allow amberjack to fight back, which runs straight to the bottom at the time of hooking,
◆ 1 pce spec.(Grip not detachable)
◆ Blank Material: 24t.+ 30t. + kevlar graphite/30 cross binding manufacturing method
◆ Guide: Titanium ion plating SIC ocean guide double-wrapped. AMJ-54L, 52M, SF510 are spiral guide spec. Spinning models’ butt guide are all reverse spec.

More from the S-Bend Weekend
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Tue, 2010-10-05 19:47This weekend was set aside for a trip to the S-Bend. Something I do as often as I can afford the time and money as this is prime country and somewhere I have frequented for 40 years or so as a GSHS student initially and then as a suburban "bogan" in the last few years.
I travelled alone (Chockie my dog came of course). On the way up I decided to try out the new Indean Ocean Drive. It was an exceptional experience. The road is great and not much left to be done up at the Cervantes end. Bitumen roads into Wedge Island and Grey. The scenery on that route is just fantasic and in some instances you are greated with gorgeous sea views. This is a potential road kill route so I would not really look forward to an night drive. My car doesn't like too much blood and my bull bar would make some pretty sad cases of the local wildlife.
Conditions up there were tough to say the least. Winds tended SSE in the morning but turned SSW and STRONG early mornings. Much sea grass was around so options were very limited. In some short opprtunities I managed to get line in the water and was well rewarded.
