just a quick question.

i bought a bario 11ft 6-15kg rod about a month ago and im about to buy a 8000 sphero reel.

now for the question, do you think 20-30lb sunline super PE braid would be better hoping to get 300m of line on it. the fish i want to be targeting is tailor, salmon, bonito when around, but also the chance of mulloway and also land the odd small shark.

what do you guys think?

hey guys, i have the opportunity to go down south, ie. busso/bunno or anywhere around there really this weekend. just tossing up if its actualy worth heading down, to save a trip if theres not much going on. im landbased and pretty much restricted cos we only got a stationwagon. is there much going on down there at the moment?

I would really like to get serious about doing one or 2 Exmouth comps......Fishwrecked comp is April 9, 10, 11.....australian international billfish tournament (AIBT) March 14-18......Gamex March 19-26.......Probably need to get serious and book accomodation soon....from camping to renting a house works for me.....anyone want to get serious about doing it ?

So after a good year of trying to find a big inshore snapper it still hasnt happend just after some help from the guys that are getting them inshore. To be honest im beggining to think i may be anchoring on the wrong ground. I have no problems finding ground for inshore sambo's or dhuies. Is it the same sort of ground where the snapper will be? (mostly reef/weed) or should i be anchoring close to the reef instead of ontop of it. Ive tried anchoring in 6-10m and 15-18m to vary it and both times we have caught our 2 just legals it was on the 18m ground. I normally anchor up and burley up with mulie cubes and a burley bucket over the side with half mulies and some chook pellets. So am i doing something wrong or am i just not having any luck?? As for rigs normally use a really tiny ball sinker if not any on a snelled mulie. My partner uses a paternoster with whole mulie or squid heads. Im finding skippy in plague proportions in the shallow 6-10m so seems our burley trail is keeping them around and as they are fun they can get annoying after a while.

Do any of the local fishing stores stock lure making materials like wire, grommets, weights... eyes etc.

Trying to source stuff for making up some top quailty poppers. Have only found american sites so far ( njtackle.com ) but dont think they will send overseas.  Would much rather buy local if i can, will be buying in bulk too.

Whats the go with a tackle shop in melville lately.

i went in the other day was going to purchase a shimano tiagra 30 & i was looking at the shop assistants then looking at the cabinet.  they didnt come over to ask if i needed assistance or anything.  they just sat there talking to each other.  i stayed in the shop for nearly half an hour then went to leave then they spoke to me & said have a nice day.

too easy, wont be buying much out of there any more.  not only that they used to stock alot of gear now theyre running out of lots of stuff.  are they trying to shut the doors or is this how service is going now.   blew me away.   they used to be really good but the last three times ive been in there has been the same.  just hope the manager might read this & lift their game a little.  ive been a costomer for a long time as well and spent thousands of dollars there over the years,  just a little disappointed

here in South Aus. i target alot of kingfish landbased mainly of jettys which is a hard challenge but very fun.

i have a Daiwa Saltiga 4500H Maverick spooled with 50lb braid.

now i dont really want to usin my jig stick off the jetty as it is bit to short

what would you think would be the way to goo in quality rods. budget is no issue.

wil be targeting kings from 3kg to 15kg

so somthing nice and strong but with  abit of flick for lures and live baits

before you all say have you used the search engine, yes i have and nothing conclusive.

I am slowly getting into squiding and found some ground that holds squid.

i have enough money to be a couple Yo-Zuri squid jigs.

I currently have 2 Aurie-Q ace 3.0 in pink and 2.5 in brown.

what i would like to know is what colours are preffered at night and at day.

and lastly how do you work the jig? like a soft plastic or with slow lifts etc.

went over to rotto with a mate on the weekend, the weather was on the bad side most of the time but come sunday lunch and the wind died off a bit so we went in search for some nice lumps and it wasnt long till we found em, took a while to find something bititng but then the 24kg backbone was doubling over like ive never seen, made my mate piss big time... dunno wat it was but i was callin it for a sambo or ytk but will never know. the bites stopped and so did the wind so out wider we go, found a nice lump in the 50's with only an hour or so of sunlight left, down goes a big chunk of fresh squid and my mate again was on nice lil pinky to 3 kilos(baby for the depth we were fishing). then next thing i know something hit my bait and almost pulled the rod out of my bloody arms, i was onto something good 10 minutes went by and we got colour, got it to the surface and i just moaned dhuy... stoked. got it in boat for a few snaps then straight on ice, after all ended up with 3 flathead(2 of wich was a double header), 2 sb fish, a huge foxy,1 lil pinky and nice dhu that pulled 16.9 kilos... not too bad considering ive only ever caught one and it wasnt even size. will post photos  when i pick my camera up.

Just wondering if anyone has any reports on how the Trout are going down south gonna take the family to Harvey to have a flick (cost me $20 to get me 7yr old a freshy license so better come up with something).

Morning all,

With a bit of time to kill this morning, and there being a slight breeze, I decided to shoot up to the PK Boat Ramp and have a look at how it was progressing.

Lots of bays, and parking for cars without trailers too.

Seperate bays either side of the car park for rig up and de rigging. Didn't notice any infrastructure for wash down facilities on the de rig side, but perhaps it may still be early days yet.

The FRP grating on the finger wharf looks good, as does the grating down the centre of each ramp.

Even though the breeze was only light this morning, I have a feeling that it will become rather messy down there when it does pick up. Even as light as it was this morning, it would create issues.

Hopefully the pics will give you the idea.

hi guys an gals finally back home from work and off to quobba in two days for ten nights just looked at the weather forecast for the next week dont know to much bout reading the charts but looks like its going to be windy and a lot of sw winds 10 to 20knots is there any locals that could check this for me and tell me what its been like and what its going to be like would be much apprieciated i hope its good cause i need my fix and the time has come finally will be taking 19ft trailcraft hoping to nail some nice mackies be great for some info thanks guys/gals
