Fishing Spots
Submitted by rickets on Thu, 2007-11-01 20:16right, this is a complimentary thread to the 17th of Nov fishing trip north....
Just discussing and trying to figure out a good location to do an overnighter fish....
between say, Lancelin and Geraldton...
We want to nail some big tailor if possible and all the other usual suspects either from groyne, jetty, rock or beach
We were thinking jurien but possibly want to get a better spot than that...
Anyone know some good locations to maybe try out as far as geraldton? (maybe a tiny bit further north)

Off to Hillarys
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2007-11-01 14:41After seeing all the great fishing pics on the site over the past few days I just have to go wet a line. I am going to try some plastics and bait casting at Hillarys North Wall. Checked out the Google satellite pics today and there appears to be a bit of a reef between the disabled platform and the lighthouse. I will give that a crack. Colin Hay

"Yamaha blasts the E-Tec Myth into the weeds"
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 2007-10-31 14:23Okay, the argument has gone on for a while now ie 4 stroke versus 2 stroke and Etec versus the world!
I'm a Suzuki 4 stroke outboard owner and rate my motor, economical, reliable and quiet.
The Etec debate has rattled Yamaha by the looks and they've done their own testing and the write up's called "Yamaha blasts the E-Tec Myth into the weeds".........wasn't a suprise to me as i've always stated the clever marketing sounds just too good!
Interesting read, E-tec marketing people will be working a few extra hours me thinks...hehehe

Big bitey close to home!
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 2007-10-31 07:39Media Release Large great white shark seen in Warnbro Sound Date: Tuesday, 30 October 2007
Department of Fisheries Regional Manager, Metropolitan, Tony Cappelluti said the report of a couple of sightings in recent days came from a commercial fisherman and was considered to be very reliable.
“The fisherman says he saw a great white shark that was around five to six metres long and, on both occasions, it was seen at the southern end of Warnbro Sound,” Mr Cappelluti said.
“No one knows for sure if it is the same shark, but we have two sightings, not far from the water ski take-off area, so we must warn people of the potential of this one, or other sharks, being attracted to the area by spawning fish.”
Mr Cappelluti said it was important to get the message of caution out to people who use the area for various activities.
“We understand the shark was seen within 100 metres of the beach,” he said.
“The Department of Fisheries is continuing to monitor the situation.
“Shark sightings should be reported to the Water Police on 9442 8600.”
Some precautions to reduce the risk of shark attack are to:
- swim between the flags at patrolled beaches;
- avoid time in the water around dusk and dawn, when there may be an increased risk of shark attack;
- avoid areas where there are large schools of fish, or other potential shark prey, such as seals;
- avoid areas where animal, human or fish waste enter the water;
- avoid deep-water channels or drop-offs nearby;
- do not remain in the water with bleeding wounds; and
- if you see a shark, leave the water quickly and calmly. Avoid excessive splashing or noise.

Fishwrecked Landbased Day #2 - 17th of November
Submitted by rickets on Tue, 2007-10-30 14:43Hey, thought id start a new thread, not taking any glory away from Spess' trip but due to my really wanting to go and the unfortunate circumstances of me not being able to make it on the 10th, id already arranged to get away for the 17th soooooo.... was wondering, who wants to mission up for some landbased fishing on the 17th? (the following saturday)
I know Tyson and Hoju are keen so we have 3 to start, but any interest in going again by any of the other lads would be great! And if for some reason, the 10th gets postponed for a week, we will amalgamate with the crew from the 10th.
But yeah, same deal as the 10th, looking for 4x4's but not essential... if we dont find any, we can mission up to jurien or a touch further depending on ideas etc?
Anyone keen that wants to go again a week after the 10th or anyone that cant make it on the 10th wanna come with?

Lunar Charts
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2007-10-30 12:46I know that there are some that swear by them and others that think they are a load of crap.
I have been doing a bit of research and according to one on-line chart today and tomorrow are supposed to be "Good Fishing" days. The best fishing day coming up is supposed to be on November 9, according to one chart. Another agrees with that and suggests that the 10th is also a great day for fishing. However, the first chart suggests that Nov 18 and 19 are also "Best Fishing" days. The other chart does not rate those days at all, and suggests Nov 23 and 24 are the "best" fishing days. Any day is a great day for fishing, but it would be good to be able to have a head start.

Pretty Sinkers
Submitted by Pete D on Tue, 2007-10-30 08:28Got hold of some plastic powder from a friend who works at a technical school. They use it to coat the handles of garden tools.
Thought I would test it on a few snapper leads. Tried one....and couldn't stop myself
Pity, only had yellow though.
Heat the sinker, dip and roll. Too easy. Produces about a 2mm thick coating.
Cheers Pete
ps Trying to find out where you can get the powder from. This lot has been in the cupboard for over ten years.

Barra trip 3/4 Nov
Submitted by jay_burgess on Mon, 2007-10-29 11:42Last set of neaps there was a 117cm fish caught in this system so Mick and I are hoping that we can get stuck into some decent fish.
Brad has told me he will be heading to the same creek where he caught his 91cm fish in September, departing either Saturday or Sunday and returning during the week. As a result of me not being able to take leave I will not be joining Brad this time. Mick and I will be further up the coast.
Full report when we return!

bottom bouncing - mono vs braid
Submitted by Italiano on Sun, 2007-10-28 18:47me and a mate were having a discussion today about fishing with braid or mono when bottom bouncing. I fish with braid but he fishes with mono just wondering what everyone else uses cause he swears by mono. we both use the same reels tekota 800's, so just like to get other opions on what other people use (purely bottom bouncing)
