Custom rod painting???

I have heard there is a guy in perth somewhere that does custom air brush paintings on your rod for a good price. has anyone else heard of this? I want to get some images done on some trolling rods. Any info would be sweet. Cheers Chris.

Avet Reels

Thinking about buying an avet reel, probably a SX or a MXJ.  So has anyone got one and what are your thoughts on them?

Going to be used for a bit of jigging and shallow water bottom fishing, and was also thinking of getting one off ebay which is a factory blem and quite a lot cheaper.

Cheers
Dean

Satelite images

I don't know if you have checked this site out, but it provides an interesting view of the waters around Australia. You need to hone in on the particular spot you want to look at using the arrows and the focussing tools and then click on the satellite button at the top right hand side of the page. Good tool for looking for reefs and things, though the image is not up to date, so not so good for looking for sand banks and such

Fishing Spots

right, this is a complimentary thread to the 17th of Nov fishing trip north....

Just discussing and trying to figure out a good location to do an overnighter fish....

between say, Lancelin and Geraldton...

We want to nail some big tailor if possible and all the other usual suspects either from groyne, jetty, rock or beach

We were thinking jurien but possibly want to get a better spot than that...

Anyone know some good locations to maybe try out as far as geraldton? (maybe a tiny bit further north)

Off to Hillarys

After seeing all the great fishing pics on the site over the past few days I just have to go wet a line. I am going to try some plastics and bait casting at Hillarys North Wall. Checked out the Google satellite pics today and there appears to be a bit of a reef between the disabled platform and the lighthouse. I will give that a crack. Colin Hay

"Yamaha blasts the E-Tec Myth into the weeds"

Okay, the argument has gone on for a while now ie 4 stroke versus 2 stroke and Etec versus the world!

I'm a Suzuki 4 stroke outboard owner and rate my motor, economical, reliable and quiet.

The Etec debate has rattled Yamaha by the looks and they've done their own testing and the write up's called "Yamaha blasts the E-Tec Myth into the weeds".........wasn't a suprise to me as i've always stated the clever marketing sounds just too good!

Interesting read, E-tec marketing people will be working a few extra hours me thinks...hehehe

What knot from bimini twist to leader

Fishing riches

I have jst comne across this article. I thought it may be of interest

Larry Suchor and Ron Pasco have combined to win more than US$365,000 in a fishing contest last week in Mexico.

The Bisbee Black and Blue is the world’s richest team sporting event, paying out more than US$3.9 million in cash annually.

The tournament took place Oct. 23-27 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. This year, the 27th annual tournament, teams from all over the world and 47 US states competed.

Fortuna, the team combining the talents of Suchor and Pasco, pulled in a 460-pound blue marlin on the 48-foot boat Riviera to place fourth in the tournament and win US$365,850 in prize money.

They were among 165 boats competing, including Bad Company Wyoming Cowboys, who finished third with a 539-pound blue marlin to win the most of any team in the tournament, US$1.4 million, the second largest purse handed out in tournament history. They won that money by entering all of the optional daily categories.

Spokesman Jason Jepson said the fishing was helped just days before the tournament when hurrican Kiko threatened to make landfall in Los Cabos.

But the day before the event was to start, the hurricane turned west, away from the area, and dissipated in the Pacific. That churned up the water, which, coupled with an "opportune moon phase," caused some of the best fishing the tournament has seen in years.

Tight lines, Colin Hay

Media Release Large great white shark seen in Warnbro Sound Date: Tuesday, 30 October 2007

Sightings of a large shark, which may have been attracted by schooling pink snapper in Warnbro Sound, have raised concerns for water users in the area.

Department of Fisheries Regional Manager, Metropolitan, Tony Cappelluti said the report of a couple of sightings in recent days came from a commercial fisherman and was considered to be very reliable.

“The fisherman says he saw a great white shark that was around five to six metres long and, on both occasions, it was seen at the southern end of Warnbro Sound,” Mr Cappelluti said.

“No one knows for sure if it is the same shark, but we have two sightings, not far from the water ski take-off area, so we must warn people of the potential of this one, or other sharks, being attracted to the area by spawning fish.”

Mr Cappelluti said it was important to get the message of caution out to people who use the area for various activities.

“We understand the shark was seen within 100 metres of the beach,” he said.

“The Department of Fisheries is continuing to monitor the situation.

“Shark sightings should be reported to the Water Police on 9442 8600.”

Some precautions to reduce the risk of shark attack are to:
  • swim between the flags at patrolled beaches;
  • avoid time in the water around dusk and dawn, when there may be an increased risk of shark attack;
  • avoid areas where there are large schools of fish, or other potential shark prey, such as seals;
  • avoid areas where animal, human or fish waste enter the water;
  • avoid deep-water channels or drop-offs nearby;
  • do not remain in the water with bleeding wounds; and
  • if you see a shark, leave the water quickly and calmly. Avoid excessive splashing or noise.
More shark safety information is available online at www.fish.wa.gov.au. Click on the Environment menu, then the shark icon to find out more.

Fishwrecked Landbased Day #2 - 17th of November

Hey, thought id start a new thread, not taking any glory away from Spess' trip but due to my really wanting to go and the unfortunate circumstances of me not being able to make it on the 10th, id already arranged to get away for the 17th soooooo.... was wondering, who wants to mission up for some landbased fishing on the 17th? (the following saturday)

I know Tyson and Hoju are keen so we have 3 to start, but any interest in going again by any of the other lads would be great! And if for some reason, the 10th gets postponed for a week, we will amalgamate with the crew from the 10th.

But yeah, same deal as the 10th, looking for 4x4's but not essential... if we dont find any, we can mission up to jurien or a touch further depending on ideas etc?

Anyone keen that wants to go again a week after the 10th or anyone that cant make it on the 10th wanna come with?

Lunar Charts

Has anyone had any success following lunar charts.
I know that there are some that swear by them and others that think they are a load of crap.
I have been doing a bit of research and according to one on-line chart today and tomorrow are supposed to be "Good Fishing" days. The best fishing day coming up is supposed to be on November 9, according to one chart. Another agrees with that and suggests that the 10th is also a great day for fishing. However, the first chart suggests that Nov 18 and 19 are also "Best Fishing" days. The other chart does not rate those days at all, and suggests Nov 23 and 24 are the "best" fishing days. Any day is a great day for fishing, but it would be good to be able to have a head start.

Pretty Sinkers

Got hold of some plastic powder from a friend who works at a technical school. They use it to coat the handles of garden tools.

Thought I would test it on a few snapper leads.  Tried one....and couldn't stop myself

Pity, only had yellow though.

Heat the sinker, dip and roll.  Too easy.  Produces about a 2mm thick coating.

Cheers Pete

ps Trying to find out where you can get the powder from.  This lot has been in the cupboard for over ten years.

Barra trip 3/4 Nov

Been planning a trip for this weekend for a while now and the anticipation is building. So far the plan is to head up to Cossack friday afternoon after work and fish cossack that evening. The following morning at 6am a couple of other guys will be meeting us in Cossack and we will be departing for our destination where we will fish for saturday and sunday, returning home on Sunday afternoon.

Last set of neaps there was a 117cm fish caught in this system so Mick and I are hoping that we can get stuck into some decent fish.

Brad has told me he will be heading to the same creek where he caught his 91cm fish in September, departing either Saturday or Sunday and returning during the week. As a result of me not being able to take leave I will not be joining Brad this time. Mick and I will be further up the coast.

Full report when we return!

For the last few years i have said i would pull my finger out and try to target the swan river bull shark.

Rod is a custom 1 piece 8 wrapp kilwell blank and reel wil be a penn 950ss with 50pound

I do know that the depths of freshwater bay boatshed have seen a boy get killed by shark in 1922

Anyone have any tips on how and where to get em?

bottom bouncing - mono vs braid

me and a mate were having a discussion today about fishing with braid or mono when bottom bouncing. I fish with braid but he fishes with mono just wondering what everyone else uses cause he swears by mono. we both use the same reels tekota 800's, so just like to get other opions on what other people use (purely bottom bouncing)

Mindarie Night Fish - Official - postponed to 10th NOV

Current Plan :
3rd November - Saturday Night - Leave 3pm from Mindarie Ramp - with a return time of 12pm.

If conditions aren't ok on weather forecasts then it will be postponed until:
10th of NOVEMBER - Saturday Night, same situation.
Every skipper makes there own decision as to whether the conditions are safe and acceptable.

Latest date possible for the fish is 10th November, as the pots are out on the 15th.

It is recommended that people double up and atleast be in sight of each other (saftey reasons).  You do have piece of mind that if you get on the radio other people are out there.  Some may head wide to the shelf or the bank, others around the inner reefs and others searching the 40m mark for dhuies and pinkies.

Back to mindarie ramp at 12pm.

Please put down your boat name if you are able to make it, and if you have any spots available for deckies.

Cheers
Dean
