Monties 2019
Submitted by Robpado on Sun, 2019-05-05 19:05
Gday All,
Read most of the the trip reports and info on doing monties trips with your own boat and there's a some goof info for sure.
What im after is the best Camp spots out the monties with preference to places that the tide does not dry out, been searching maps and charts and have a few in mind but really would like the experience of other that have done the trip a few times and know the area better.
We ideally wanna stay in the northern section but open to others experiences and stories. Photos of bays an camps are much welcomed.
Cheers guys
Rob

Pinkies before or after the 5. Sunrise and sunset
Submitted by barnes on Fri, 2019-05-03 10:43So are pinkies mainly on the chew at sun up and sun down?
10 to 12 meters?
I seem to struggle to catch them during daylight hours
I see reports with them being in the shallows to the 5.
i have been looking for small reefs and sitting next to them and burling hard but still not getting any action with the big horses.
maybe I need to be there for daylight
whats your thoughts

House/car break in x8
Submitted by little johnny on Wed, 2019-05-01 07:34Here’s a good one open for discussion. My boys car got smashed into plus guy he shares with car ( smashed windows) Next door neighbours house and fair few others on street . Wallet/ cash/ Id gone. House hold goods from other people on street. Reports to police after event didn’t do anything. This was called in while there running away 1 am.Cut a long story short later that day around lunch time gets a call from local ranger . Your dog has attacked someone last night and dog needs to be put in pound.( needle). Anonymous caller. What a friggin joke. Obviously they also tried getting in his back yard also. Wtf is wrong with people ,dog protecting house in back yard. According to ranger doesn’t matter. The caller hasn’t gone in to fill out forms at rangers as of yet. But you bet your last dollar if they did nothing will happen to one of the many people doing stealing that night. And there was a few of them.( due to there indigenous back ground). Gero.

Barra lures
Submitted by roddo on Tue, 2019-04-30 19:58Hi all
What lures are the go to for barra.
We are in the final stages of packing for our trip around oz and I'm super keen to land a barramundi so what lures should I pack I have never fished for one before. I have plenty of lures for Mack's and shallow water trout, emperors and the likes. do Barra like a particular action? We are taking a dinghy so will fish land and boat for them.
Cheers

Coral bay
Submitted by Hügh_Jörgén on Mon, 2019-04-29 12:44
Hi people
First post from me, another long time stalker.
I’m going to be in CB from the afternoon of the 1st of May for 10 nights
and was wondering if there was going to be any other FW members around.
I’m just looking for a contact on the water (radio,
for safety reasons ) I’m solo this trip , family too young for outside the reef.
I have fished CB 1/2 doz times before so I’m not looking for spots.
Cheers
Geoff
Bunbury Squid
Submitted by matt1 on Mon, 2019-04-29 12:15Hi all, looking to get into squidding for the first time. Anyone know of any land based spots within 20 minutes of Bunbury (preferably around town or south, I'm in dalyellup) where I could try my hand? I had a look around on google maps satellite view but couldn't see any weed beds nearby, other than maaaaaaybe next to the old bunbury power house on the eastern side of koombana or just north of the lighthouse? Busselton jetty seems to be recommended but was looking for somewhere closer where I could zip down after work for an hour or two.
what sounder combo
Submitted by wez0062 on Mon, 2019-04-29 09:53hey guys, if you were going to spend up to $2500.00 for a new GPS / fish finder combo, including transducer, what would you recomend please.

Tow vehicle
Submitted by DanM on Sun, 2019-04-28 21:34Hi there, I need to upgrade the old hzj75 as a tow vehicle and am looking at either a 2004 Lexus lx470 (4.7petrol v8) or a newer Isuzu mux 2014 3 litre turbo diesel. My boat is a 6m Haines hunter at approx 2600kg. Is there anyone currently towing with these vehicles of similar weight? Any feedback would be appreciated, cheers.

Monties from Fortescue
Submitted by Ryno Macca on Sun, 2019-04-28 21:14Hi Guys,
Heading out to the Monties in a few days from Fortescue and I was wondering if the river crossing and the ramp is still in good condition for what it is. We will be launching a 7.8m plate boat and are aiming for high tide. Also is it still pretty safe to leave vehicles out there?
I have done a fair bit of research buy can’t find anything current on the condition of the track.
Any other tips would be appreciated. I’ve got a mooring rig if needed, 480L of fuel (300hp Verado), 5 days, spear and line fish. Maybe a couple of bubble dives too.
TIA for any assistance.

Releasing Mulloway opinions
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2019-04-28 09:56Just curious as to thoughts on releasing big Mulloway. A 16kg model was caught up our way last night and kept but I was of the thinking it's better to let them go? Not sure of the story of the condition at time of capture regarding a healthy release. Are they any good to eat at this size?

Ningaloo trip
Submitted by Outwide on Sun, 2019-04-28 08:44Had a ball in Ningloo at the start of the month, Caught some good fish but as always with this area when the wind blows it blows hard which shut it down for 5 days. All our good fish were caught on lures, all undersized fish on bait, very weird. Caught alot of queenies and trevelly off the beach right in front of camp
also made a little movie to capture out trip

Abrolhos for Anzac
Submitted by Timtilbs on Tue, 2019-04-23 20:28Gents,
8 months new to Perth and fairly new to the forum - so my thanks in advance.
Planning on heading to the Abrolhos this weekend for a two night, three day, family trip (wife and two kids). I've done a bit of research but still have some gaps - Can the experts help me with some queries?
1) Boat ramp in Geraldton to launch from - my research says the Batavia marina looks ok - is it safe to leave a car and trailer there for this time?? If not, what have others done??
2) Motel in Geraldton (boat friendly) - any suggestions for a Boat Friendly motel in Geraldtion to keep the boss happy before we sail the high seas? About 9 m long on the trailer and 10 ft high.
3) Weather forecasting - i've been watching Seabreeze, Windy and Meteye - which one best portrays the weather on the islands?
3b) Thinking of heading over Thursday afternoon with the ESE 12-14 knot winds. From what i can see it still says 2.3m seas. Will this be an easy following sea or does it stand up with a S'ly or SW'ly swell?
4) Any suggestions for a family trip? A bloke from work said he was swimming with the seals at Morley anchorage a couple of weeks ago. Any other 'family friendly' suggestions?
If anybody else is going to be over there this weekend - i'll be sitting on VHF 16 - "Lady Bird" - Dark Blue hull - Formula 233, twin Suzi's.
Tim
