Montebello Islands - who's coming? September
Submitted by da_houghsta on Mon, 2014-07-07 11:59Hey guys!
I currently have a charter booked with Blue Lightning Charters in the Montebello Islands in September (the 4th - 12th) heading out from Karratha. Unfortunately I have had one person unable to come due to work which means that there is a spot available to whoever gets in first! Please PM me or text me on 0407451156 for additional details but this is a great trip! Blue Lightning is one of the best in the business, we will be on their 55' Conquest for the trip and have access to their 26' Boston Whaler and a 40' Blackwatch is also available for hire for the game fishing.
The fishing will be a mix of GT fishing, a bit of jigging (depends on the sharks!) as well as soft plastics etc. Bait is available for those who want to do that as well. There will be 8 people coming, so plenty of room on the boats. We are all arriving on the 4th September in Karratha in the afternoon, on the boat first thing on the 5th and staying out until the 11th where we come back in and leave from Karratha on the 12th. This is a 7 day charter and the boys on board certainly know what they are doing and where to find the fish. You can bring your own gear, but there will be gear on board as well. BYO alcohol, but food and other drinks supplied.
Let me know if anyone is interested and please pass it on to anyone else you think may be interested as well!

Went fishing down at challenger beach saturday arvo
Submitted by NightWolf on Sun, 2014-07-06 22:01I got the ok from the um wife to go fishing i guess because she wants to go to scrapbooking next weekend
Any way i got in the car and left around 3:30pm got down there pulled out some gear i bought a siena 4000 and a torium 30 on a crank rod and a pfluger conternder on a timber wolf not completely new but to me they where.
I took prawns down and 2 frozen herring i put 1 herring on .the pflugger reel only cost like $15 its a nice reel but i found out the clicker dont work .Anyway i cast the herring out was out no linger than 10 minutes and the rod got pulled down almost out of the rod holder something hit it hard but didnt hook up.So i put a big bait on the torium and cast that out as well well 20 minutes later the pfluger reel was of and running there was a salmon on it what a sight my first salmon jumpingf out the water doing back flips got it all the way in to shore and i had to cross over my other line thats where it got of right on the shore my falt gave it enough slack when lifting over the other rod that it got of i ended up with 4 herring used them for baits no more big runs stayed there till about 8:15pm then went home..
i was spewing it got of but it got the hard pumping and blood flowing there was other slamon caught by other people 4kg salmon have been a few caught down there the last few weeks

Whale of a tale...Not
Submitted by meglodon on Sun, 2014-07-06 18:02In todays Sunday Times Paper ( page 23 news section ) there is an article about one of the unwanted side effects of changing the cray fishing process of the pro's to a quota system.
The article describes how the entanglement of whales in cray pot ropes etc. has increased significantly due to the pro's fishing over a 12 month period instead of a specified period.
This was something raised by the previous federal government some 8 - 12 months ago if my memory serves me correctly, and I believe that the then government issued veiled threats to the industry that it will have to come up with a solution from the stake holders or one will come from government sources, and we all can guess what sort of solution they will come up with. My guess is that what ever the solution is that is the pros come up with may be forced onto amateurs as well.
Now in my view considering the number of pots placed in the water by the pros as compared to the number used by armatures such a move would be way out of order, also as the Fisheries or whoever undertake the task of releasing the whales it would be easy for them to record if they have or are being ensnared by pro pots or armatures'.
Any comments from anyone about what could become an expensive thorn in the side for amateur cray fishermen

Redfin
Submitted by lachieH on Sun, 2014-07-06 16:29Because it's the school holidays, I wanted to try fishing freshwater for the first time. I live in perth metro and am willing to travel for 1.5 hours at the most. Does anybody know any good Redfin spots? I have seen most minnows are good for Redfin and the odd trout.

Hunting
Submitted by Industrymanboy on Sun, 2014-07-06 12:23Fishwrecked People,
Myself and my old man are looking for a place where we would be allowed to shoot vermin (Foxes, rabbits, ETC), we are both responsible, mature and environmentally minded people who enjoy a spot of hunting and eliminating introduced vermin. We have typically frequented my uncle's property however this has recently been sold, so we haven't had the opportunity to go for a while. We will bring our own equipment, abide by any rules you want to put in place and pay (beer, money or both) for access to the land.
If you are willing to have us, or know of anyone who would be. Please PM me or drop me a line on 0488 088 912.
Cheers

Carrarang
Submitted by timboon on Sun, 2014-07-06 08:33Gday there,
Can anyone post a link of info relating to Carrarang, I've tried to search and for some reason its wigging out...
Taking a 5.6mtr boat so just wanted to know about access getting the boat in and out...
Also is it easy enough to get to DHI from Carrarang as I'm assuming the best fishing will be at either end of DHI...
Cheers

Dry Run
Submitted by Swompa on Fri, 2014-07-04 13:24Hi,
My name is Swompa, and it is 5 weeks since my fishing gear last touched water.
I am starting to develop a twitch.
Had dreams of a snapper session in Challenger Passage tomorrow morning but 15-20 knots early morning has changed that.
As a Yachtie you would think I would be happy with plenty of wind, but no.
Early morning North Westerly - you suck!

Busso heads up
Submitted by Brad Y on Fri, 2014-07-04 12:35Just a heads up for boaties, I lost an anchor last night north of the marina. Ive marked the rope with a float so I can go get it when the weather improves. Hopefully some scum hasnt done it for me, but just beware that there is a rope below that float. Im not overly concerned about the anchor really, but dont want someone to wrap that rope around their prop.

wilbinga access from two rocks?
Submitted by Versus on Thu, 2014-07-03 10:00Had a run up to Wilbinga last w.e mostly just for a look (chucked a few lures but no tailor). Took the track in from the pine plantation, which has been cut down btw, but the tyre is still there.
Just wondering if you can still get onto the tracks/beach from Two Rocks? Last i heard they had closed the main access or something? Looks like it would be quicker from Two Rocks...
And on a side note, might head up early sat morn to have a go for tailor, any one had any luck there lately?
cheers

Been closed since the crabs stopped running and last time I looked there was 2 very large black plastic things on the driveway. They look like large inflatable pillows. Submitted by Swompa on Wed, 2014-07-02 13:07Howdy All,
Looking to put a new unit on my boat as my Hummingbird black and white unit is a bit long in the tooth.
I have had a look at a few sites (overtons.com, bias and whitworths) but with so many options, I am not sure.
My fishing, with, this boat, will be limited to on or around 5 fathom bank, so nothing really for deep drop stuff so please answer this question:
In my opinion, the best unit under $700 is:
