Rotto Boat Parking for Dummies
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2021-02-11 12:31We usually go to Herring Bay or Carnac but I've been watching the weather and am considering taking the family to Rotto for our first day trip Sunday from Hillarys. I've scoped out the beach parking area but am still not entirely sure how it all works. It looks like there's attachment points on the beach to tie to the stern to stop the boat swinging around but is it BYO rope and if so how much will I need or can I drop the family off? ... or do I just drop the family off at the jetty and head out fishing all day?
Cheers JF

Next school holiday trip
Submitted by tennis coach on Wed, 2021-02-10 10:35After a very fun week in Monkey Mia in December, we have decided to take the plunge and book a week in Exmouth for Easter, luckily we snuck a site at Yardi creek caravan park. I have searched many posts on fishing inside the reef and realistically we may get out for a troll but will spend most of our time inside the reef, burleying up and chasing Spangos etc
Any info or tips will be fantastic
young lads want a Spanish so will pick our days to head out and troll the back of the reef but being a newbie looking for some rough ideas on getting a few bottom fish
Thx in advance for any replies

Shark bay - possession limit decrease
Submitted by scotto on Mon, 2021-02-08 15:40I just came across the screenshot below, from good old FB. It sounds as though a trip/possession limit of 10kgs demersal will be introduced to the shark bay marine park. This was triggered by a bunch of Shark Bay locals that whinged about the amount of fish frames in the fillet table bins from the July 2020 school holidays. At the time, there was a long window of exceptional weather, and the problem was amplified by the regional bans being lifted just before the holidays, and the metro population not being able to travel internationally, generally taking their winter holidays between Kalbarri and Karratha
from my understanding, recfishwest did a survey, and they and the consensus were against this proposal? I'm not sure if it's true yet, and still trying to get confirmation. But it's interesting that they are (apparently) introducing this without any studies on take, stocks, etc.

Size of craypot throat?
Submitted by Reefsta on Sat, 2021-02-06 13:12Putting together a craypot with some recycled jarra, but will use one of the red plastic throats for the opening. I have two sizes, both beachcombed last winter, with the smaller around 91/2" and the bigger about 11" diameter. Any advice on whether the smaller or bigger one would be best?

What prop? 140hp Suzuki
Submitted by saltyseamen on Fri, 2021-02-05 14:11Hey crew,
I have recently changed engines from a 130hp Yamaha 2 Stroke to a 140hp Suzuki 4 Stroke on my Southwind 550WR.
Boat performs just as I would want it while underway and on the plane, however I have noticed it struggles out of the hole when it is loaded with people/ eskies.
At the moment I am running the standard aluminium prop (can't remember specs it's getting serviced as we speak) but want to upgrade to something that gives me more hole shot.
I don't care too much about top end speed just want to be able to get on the plane a bit quicker.
So i ask, what prop do you reccomend/ are you running with a similar setup?
I understand that 4 blades have more 'grip' and hence allow the boat to accelarate faster than 3 blades.
All info is welcome.
Cheers.

June 2021 - Coral Bay
Submitted by Fishingsw on Tue, 2021-02-02 17:03Hey all.
Long time lurker, first time poster! Thanks for everyone's valuable content this far!
I've got a family trip to Coral bay planned for June this year (fingers crossed) and I'm going to tow our Quintrex 475 up. I plan on doing some bottom bashing for whatever we can find and some trolling along the back of the reef.
My question is to everyone, if you could take 4 rod+reel combos, what would you take? Also what tackle do you think I should be looking at?
We'll be up there for a week so hoping for a few beautiful days on the water.
Cheers!!

Thinking of a big boat
Submitted by BigbadDhu on Sun, 2021-01-31 23:56Hey you blokes
As some of you may be aware, i have in the last 6 montha bought a new stabicraft 2400. Its been bloody good so far, though i keep thinking of whats next.
We have 5 kids, who are all getting bigger, and we would like to incorporate some of the extended family out on fishing trips, cruising (mandurah estuary christmas lights and new years, rotto etc).
Im looking for some advice on the pros and cons of a big boat ( thinking 40-50ft). And i would most likely be looking at new.
Ive looked at pen costs at mandurah marina. And service costs for engines and ancillaries.
Though im unsure of antifouling? Once a year?
Any other out of water expences?
I know running costs will obviously be much higher.
Interested in opinions or experience from owning a large trailer boat, and a big boat.
Ps, long range trips to abrolhos and mobties would be garkn epic i reckon!!
Cheers
