New Sounder Input Wanted
Submitted by CalSmith on Thu, 2016-07-14 15:45Hey Fishos
I have decided that I am over split screens and want to now run two seperate screens! Currently running a Lowrance HDS 7 and will be turning that into my GPS and I am now looking for the best 5-7 inch sounder on the market in the $500-$1000 range. It will be used purely as a sounding unit but i would like to hear everyone's opinions on what they believe is the best on the market currently. I am not biased to any brand and am very open to any suggestions aka lowrance, garmin, simrad, furuno etc and also what transducers to match with.
Cheers in advanced!

Ever Green Poseidon slow jerker jigging rods
Submitted by Oceanside Tackle on Thu, 2016-07-14 13:47Shop owner Ryan Thipthorp has been using the Ever Green Poseidon slow jerker PE2 spin rod for a few years now. By far its his favourite demersal jigging rod and ideal for metals, octa and softplastics etc
On one of the Fishing WA shows he did last series he was jigging softplastic in shallow water targeting metro pink snapper. Since that show went to air we have been getting more requests for that rod so now we have it IN STOCK!
The Ever Green Poseidon slow jerker series is one of Japans most sort after slow pitch jigging rod on the market. The Poseidon is the Lamborghini of the slow pitch world so, if your after a high quality Japanese slow pitch rod you can not go past the consistent quality of the slow jerker.
Stocking the more popular spin models first up and overheads to follow. In stock;
PSPJ603L 6’3 PE2 3oz Spin
PSPJ603L-5 6’3 PE2.5 5oz Spin
We also stock the Shimano Stella reels like what Ryan's using and the Gosen braid which is Japanese silky smooth 8py braid and our/Ryans favourite. Gosen braid is the best on the market without the crazy price tag and we stock 15lb - 80lb in 300m plus larger spools for heavy poundage's ie 500m - 1200m.
Pop in and check out the range, if your wanting a combo deal we're happy to help. Open 7 Days and Fishwrecked Discounts Apply
Fishermen Rescued
Submitted by Tom M on Thu, 2016-07-14 13:31 Fishing with a mate 6 miles off Rockingham on Tuesday morning when we noticed 2 rescue boats heading towards us, within a hundred meters away they veered around us to a boat several hundred meters behind us. We figured they must have broken down, we watched as 4 of them climbed on board one of the rescue boats and then within minutes their boat sunk. What shocked us was we were unaware they were in trouble. We spoke to the rescue team when we came in and it appears they made no effort to contact us as they were panicking trying to bail out boat. One of the guys used his phone to call for help. When you are in trouble and start to pannick logic can go out the door a lesson for all of us. It appears their flares were wet and radio did not work. Luckily for them we are not reading about 4 fishermen drowning.

Camping on bluff knoll
Submitted by br3nno on Tue, 2016-07-12 18:49
Please delete if (too) irrelevant.
hey fellas,
I figured there are guys in this forum into camping. So I was thinking of hiking to the top and bluff knoll and setting up camp. Im hoping I could just set up a tent somewhere on the peak or near the peak. Just for the accomplishment and to hang out with my friends. Is this possible?
thanks

Gnarloo pics (pic heavy)
Submitted by sea-kem on Tue, 2016-07-12 18:38So as promised a few pics of the trip. Only really had two good days of weather but managed to do very well on those days. The boys were red hot with the jigs and plastics and literally smashed all my stock. Found a couple of new spots up there with massive flares and they produced our only Reds of the trip but also big Rankins. The boys were absolutely stoked with the place and what it has to offer and feel spoiled now thinking of the local fishing ahead of them until next year.

metallic paint
Submitted by Cheeto on Tue, 2016-07-12 16:03hi all,
im in the process of getting a new ally boat built, and need to finish my colour choice in hte next two weeks. its driving me NUTS!
can i get first world experience with metallic paints on ally boats and sinekrs etc. forget hte extra cost for a minute, im eyeing off a metallic grey and hte boat looks a million bucks with it, but touching up metallica is harder. i cant see myself toching it up, more like a full respray if its looking shite at sale time..
can i get any actual feedback from the real world on salt, sun and sinkers. (and implications of towing up north...stone chips etc)
just a last FYI i look after my stuff, clean polish, detail and store in a shed so its really just the things i havent thought of. standard grey or a deep sea blue are the fall back options but my favourite choice would be the metallic grey.
am i making a big deal out hte fact its metallic or should i stay away from it?
thank you in advance

Rod length advise
Submitted by GGs on Tue, 2016-07-12 15:00Hi all
Im in the market for a new spin rod and just chasing some advise/opinions on length.
The two rods im currently looking at are the Yamaga Blanks Early Plus 88ml (8"8', lure 7-28g) and the 92xml (9"2', lure weight 7-32g).
It will primarily be used for tailor, salmon, bonito both off the stone and beach. Will also use it up north on the flats.
Will be paired with a twinpower SW 4000xg and PE1.5
Im leaning more towards to 88ml because its a little shorter so will be easier to handle fish solo from the stones but not having used a light spin rod over 7" im after advise from those who have.
Cheers

Fuel Burn
Submitted by southpoint on Mon, 2016-07-11 12:46Hi All,
I am doing some preliminary work looking for a new boat but I’m really struggling to find a solution.
Most of my time is spent out at the trench either deep drop or dragging lures. So I do 70 mile round trips straight out and back most trips, often more when running lures.
I like the speed that outboard(s) provide but i am just not sold on twin outboards for the high fuel burn of twins, single outboard is obviously the best choice for straight line burn but diesels obviously kill them all for trolling. Mymate has a Caribbean 40 that used 2.9 litres / hr a side at troll speed (just in gear). Pretty amazing numbers , down side is is 55 lt/hr per side on the way out at 22 kts
I was wondering if everyone with access to fuel flow data would give me their fuel flow figures for normal cruise speed /fuel burn and then say 7 kts (troll speed) in the below format. Happy to share the end product if anyone is interested
Boat type
Length
Engine / Engines
Petrol / Diesel
Fuel Burn 7 kts
Fuel Burn 25 knots (or your cruise speed - please state the speed)
POB
Would be an interesting exercise all the same and would love some bigger boats too in the hope of getting a decent data set
Any help greatly appreciated

Exmouth Prawns
Submitted by Rowanhill on Mon, 2016-07-11 12:25Hi Guys
Finally heading up to Exy this fri for a few weeks. The past month of weather up that way has me thinking I need other stuff to do as its unlikely we'll get out wide most days. Has this rain brought on the prawns down in the Gulf? Any general info would be appreciated. we will have a tinny as well for prawning/muddies, so thinking it might get a bit more use than the big boat if the weather pattern continues.
I presume the roads are all open, just a bit of water around on the edges?
Cheers

Typical of the weekend weather
Submitted by rigpig on Mon, 2016-07-11 10:03What's with the weekend weather??? It seems just about every weekend fishing trip is done in by ordinary weather of late. Yesterday you could have surfed the chop in Safety Bay and then today its glassed off in the river..
It's doing my head in.. I'm not sure if I can get away with taking another day off work during the week...
This is what I'm looking at right now.. damn it....

Karratha help needed!!
Submitted by choc on Mon, 2016-07-11 06:21Hi Guys
I'm heading to Karratha to visit a mate who has recently moved up there. I'm only there for four days and was hoping to get a quick fish in for some threadies( my favourite eating fish) while I'm up north. Can anyone let me know if this is a good time of year in Karratha for these? I know there is plenty in Broome at the moment but will not have time to get up there.
Never fished Karratha before so any tips would be greatly appreciated, have already got some info of the search section but the more info the better.
Cheers, Choc.

Lucky Bay Kalbarri
Submitted by tadpole on Sun, 2016-07-10 19:11Have pencilled in a trip to Lucky Bay for a couple of days next weekend. Been on the bucket list for a while so pretty darn excited. Unfortunately the weather gods aren't smiling and a bit of rain is forecast. Have done a bit of searching on here, but haven't found much in way of winter time fishing reports from there. Has anyone been there this time of year and can tell me what to expect? And how productive is the fishing inside the bay, in comparison to outside (landbased)?

Boat Shed/ Garage
Submitted by Kakkerlak on Fri, 2016-07-08 07:58I’ve recently bought a new boat. The boat is glass and foam filled. I’m thinking of putting up a small colour bond shed to keep the boat out of the sun and elements. Space is limited so a brick garage can’t be done. I’m concerned about the heat in a shed in summer as I can imagine it will get very hot in there. Can the heat cause damage to the boat trailer? Does anyone else have a similar set up?
