Saturday swell
Submitted by Poppy on Tue, 2016-08-09 18:42It's been 3 months since I have taken my 4.5 metre f/g dinghy out and I have been sick of hearing tales of the snapper that are around at the moment. The wind on Saturday looks great, but the swells are around the 2 metre mark. As a relative newby at navigating through the reef off Hillaries, can anyone tell me how that swell forcast will affect getting out to clean water? Thanks in advance.

Buying Secondhand Boat Privately
Submitted by southcoast on Tue, 2016-08-09 18:20OK - in the market for a secondhand boat and looking more and more at private sellers.
Now for the question - (N.B. I have looked at DoT site and it doesn't provide the answer)
If I buy a secondhand car I can get a REV check to make sure there are no amounts owing on the car. What process do I take to make sure when I buy my boat there is no finance oustanding on the boat and some finance company wont come and retrieve the boat off me?

Denham Launch Ramp.
Submitted by Deckie on Sun, 2016-08-07 20:30Hi folks, i heard that the launch ramp at Denham will be shut down for 2 weeks from 8 August 2016.
I think its the ramp in the ceter of town.
Can anyone tell me what the ramp at the end of town is like, the one opposite the caravan park.
I am taking a 4.0m tinnie up there at the end of this week & would be good to know if it is ok for launching.
Thanks.....

Abrolhos Tackle Must Haves
Submitted by Browndog on Sun, 2016-08-07 17:10Lucky enough to be heading to the Abrolhos at the end of this month and haven't fished there for a while. Thought I'd put this out there for the regular visitors, what do you regard as your "must haves" for bottom bouncing tackle? I have a few jigs and soft placcies, also a bit of trolling gear but I expect we will mainly be dropping baits to the bottom. Taking the usual spare spools of braid, leader etc, just after some advice from the Abrolhos regulars on anything that works particularly well. Don't want to get out there and think "Damn, I wish I had of brought ......"
Cheers,
BD

Where to live
Submitted by woodnfish on Sun, 2016-08-07 11:42Been around the site for a fair while but have lurked in the background since moving to the country 5 years ago. Had enough of travelling hundreds of kilometres to fish and of the cold here in the central wheatbelt.WE ARE MOVING!
First choice was Carnarvon - been a Quobba regular for over 30 years non-stop and also love the flats fishing for whiting etc. Sadly, the crime rate and anti social behavior precludes our buying there. That leaves Kalbarri or Karratha. Any views on which may be best from a fishing point of view for a couple of retirees? Mainly landbased fishing but do have a tinny.
Thoughts appreciated.

Rod leash
Submitted by Yewiefish85 on Sat, 2016-08-06 18:49Hi guys, wondering if any one that has used a rod leash find they get in the way?, I have just recently bought my 2 boys (4 & 6) a new rod each, problem is I am worried that they will drop them in the drink, these aren't cheap Kmart rods so was thinking of the leash idea but thought they might get in the way, any feedback is greatly appreciated

Saltiga Handle
Submitted by GrahamM on Sat, 2016-08-06 08:44
Hello its been a while.
I went out for a fish yesterday and borrowed a saltiga reel for a try. Only to find that when i got to the fishing spot ( 20miles ) that somehow the handle had worked its way off the reel and was no ware to be found. The rod and reel was in a rocket holder on top of the roof/canopy. Why and what can i do to prevent this ? The reel seemed fine before setting out for the trip.
Cheers Graham

Suzuki yamaha merc 2016 models
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2016-08-05 21:33Anyone have the latest merc 80hp? I'm upgrading my engine in the next couple of months (once good deals start rolling out) and I was considering a suzuki yamaha & now the merc as the 80 is 2.1lt engine capacity. Weight isn't a issue as a heavier motor would be in my faviour as I have a bowrider.
Boat is used for skiing crabbing fishing. Along with a lot of ravo pub runs.

Moving to Karratha - what gear do I need ?
Submitted by maulbeagle on Wed, 2016-08-03 10:48Hi everyone,
The family and I are moving to Karratha to live for a few years.
What gear do you recommend for beach fishing and maybe small boat fishing ?
Looking for myself, pluys my 2 sons aged 10 and 12.
We don't want to spend a fortune, we're not mad fishermen or anything like that, but would like to experience the fishing as I've heard it is awesome up there.
Cheers !

Numpty
Submitted by crowie on Wed, 2016-08-03 06:24Some super smart fu-$^& idiot decided it would be a good idea to leave 100m of rope on the surface out from point peron just near the swell buoy in 30m of water. Obviously i managed to run it over while at speed and lucily it didnt do any damage. Another boat drove past me whle i was coiling it and just missed the other end of it. The rope was green 12mm and i put 4 shortening coils in it. Fu^*(% idiots. if its still there be careful.
markfish is anybody using one
Submitted by willy2668 on Wed, 2016-08-03 05:34Has anybody got one of these for the transfer of a mark from a furuno sounder to any plotter

linking Lowrance
Submitted by wez0062 on Tue, 2016-08-02 10:28hey guys,
I have brought a new Lowrance Hook 7, to run along side my Elite 7 HDI. Can these be linked ?? is it hard to do?. I am thinking that if I spot some lump / fish on the Hook 7, that I could mark the spot somehow & it would show on my HDI unit !! or am I wrong. The Hook 7, does NOT have GPS, it is solely for scanning what is below. Searhced the web, can't find any useful info about linking these 2 units
thanks in advance

Canal Rocks 31 July 2016
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2016-08-01 18:54Nothing to do in Busso yesterday with 7m swells and 30kn winds so decided to head to Canal Rocks to watch the carnage roll in and boy am I glad I did. There were waves breaking 1km off the rocks and covering them in foam when they hit with some mad bastards jumping off the bridge into the water as it rushed through.
I've been down there before in some severe conditions but was left gobbsmacked at what I saw mother nature throwing up yesterday!
Got back to me car and it was covered in about 1mm of salt!
