WINNING: Today’s Catch - Big shout out to mjohns!
Submitted by Helen on Sun, 2018-09-09 23:51I just wanted to shout out a big thanks to Mick (mjohns) for letting me tag along today on his squidding expedition. It wasn’t meant to be the greatest conditions so we originally decided to not head out too far and stick to squidding. We successfully managed to score a few squid and then not long later there was a change in weather conditions so we decided to head out further for some bottom bouncing. With the amazing view watching whales circling us for a little while we managed to score a pinky and a few Dhuies before calling it a day.
Not only did Mick make time to take me out on the water, but he also taught me to successfully fillet my fish and clean out my squid. Loved every second. Thanks again Mick you are a champ!
Next step... Win lotto... Buy a boat!

Nothing Huge
Submitted by brenz on Mon, 2018-09-03 09:14Finally managed to get out for a perth fish after taking a break for the last 6 or so months. Weather was kind and managed to round out a bag in the 40's rather easily with a couple of snapper, good Harly and a Breaksea
Hopefully it was enought to relight the fishing flame and there be a few more adventures to come.
Cheers to Nelly for taking me out much appreciated, not having a boat really makes you apreciate the opportunities that are put forward so much more.

Awesome Weather and some Puka
Submitted by Spence on Mon, 2018-08-27 07:03Its great to finally have some decent weather...so I took advantage saturday and headed out to 300m. First couple of drifts managed a bag of Hapuka between 7-10kg, looked around a bit after and headed in on flat seas for lunch.
Ramps are horrendous at the moment, had to pull a couple of blokes out at Point Peron bogged to axles. Why is the council leaving it this time round? I can understand a few days to a week delay, but now its been a number of weeks, surely they must be feeling the heat from the public to do something. I think i could have stayed at ramp charging $20 a snatch out and made a killing.

A few fish since my last report
Submitted by beau on Sun, 2018-07-22 16:43Havent posted in a while so thought I'd post a few pics since my last report on here. Working locally now has really limited my outings, working 5 and half days a week and the young fella at 19 months old keeps me pretty busy these days. If the weather is mint on a friday I tow the boat to work and head straight to the ramp on knock off for a quick sunset flick and a brew.
Snapper numbers seem to be picking up inshore last few months. Have been finding great numbers on the sounder but getting them to eat is a different story, have managed to pluck a couple here and there though.
First fish of the season I was trolling a small plastic for some herring for fresh bait to try my hand at some gummies when i sounded over some solid fish in 6m. I harassed this school for a good 45mins before finally getting an eat. 90cm long and the boat anchored nearby was stoked when I offered for them to take it home.
A successful after-work session, 2 snaps and a size-able skippy :/
Headed out with fellow member scotte last week and had a great little session tagging and releasing numerous snapper and also keeping a couple fish for a feed.
Mid 50s keepers.
Dad requested fillets so off we went. 4 dhus and a pink for the arvo. Has been some mint weather between the storms.
Mum and dad will get a few meals out of those
Headed out with fellow member Uncle and Blake from Compleat Angler Rocko to target salmon. Nothing crazy by salmon standards but we boated a few and had some laughs. Timed our run perfect as the season was almost non-existant this year, apart from a few stragglers on the northern beaches, the schools disappeared as quick as they arrived, it was all over within a week or so.
Have been having some pretty crazy sessions doing some metro popping. Hard work, but the results are awesome. I have never fished for GT's but I imagine this is about as close as it gets, especially out of Perth. The surface explosions are pretty insane, with sambos climbing over each other smashing the popper, eventually hooking up sometimes just a metre or 2 from the boat. Unfortunately ive lost 8 lures since the last fish I landed, these guys play realy dirty in the shallows. Our last successful session saw us land one kingy out of 3 hookups.
Old mate underneath waiting for the next cast.
A few other bits and bobs..
Im guessing the sounder shot with the solid arches hugging the bottom are big pinks or mulloway.
This guy went gang-busters in the reefs behind GI

Early Morning Pinks
Submitted by richie68 on Wed, 2018-07-11 14:08Took Carl and Heath out early this morning before Sunrise. Dropped the pick, lines out, burley and it was on...
2 nice snapper onboard thanks to Heath's netting skills.
Lines back in, more burley, and another screaming run. Then all went quiet.
Ended up with 3 Snapper, 66, 85 and 87 cm. All spiked and bled put in ice slurry. flesh was excellent.
Good morning with the boys, home by 0830.

Christened the new tub
Submitted by PJim on Sat, 2018-06-30 14:07Cracker of a morning at Two Rocks. Anchored on some ground in 12 mts and dropped a 2 hook paternoster over the side baited with squid, threw a handful of pelets over, lifted the rod and was on, pulled hook let baits settle again, lifted the rod was on again, pulled the hook a second time. Let it settle again and tbis time came up solid. Nice dhu in the esky. Took the dopper rig off and put a plastic in, got the berley trail going and landed 2 smaller dhus which were released.

Next Gen
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2018-06-29 19:26Brother and I have synced our fortnightly Fridays off and decided to take our youngest ones both 3 out today. Headed out from Hillarys after lunch to my whiting patch and managed to get 20 fat sandies in just over an hour in amongst a tonne of tiny flatties and race back for school pickup. My lil nephew was a star landing 3 on his own. Can't wait for dinner tomorrow night!

Huge Landbased GT
Submitted by Chris fish on Wed, 2018-06-20 10:11About bloody time!!! I’ve tried for nearly 6 years to crack a good GT off the rocks and far out it’s been a struggle but this past trip north I managed to pull it off on light gear from a very rocky spot somehow!
No idea on weight or length but at a guess we’ll over 25kg and length somewhere around 130cm I reckon. Caught on the old metal after I’ve spend thousands on dedicated GT gear.
Gear used:
oceans legacy specialist pe3-6 10ft rod, Shimano Twinpower 10000 SW-A, 50lb (pe4) Tasline, 100lb Varivas leader and 85g metals with upgraded hook and split rings.

Anyway enough yapping ill let the pictures do the talking The deckie on lure retrieval If ur planning a holiday look no further than half cast fishing at voli voli good frew good food and awesome fishing

New boat record.
Submitted by SEAFORCE CORAL BAY on Sun, 2018-06-10 06:40I’m not a huge fan of Reds, there are better eating fish out there and you don’t get much fillet off them for their size. But they do look good so they seem to be at the top of the wish list for most customers. They cop a hammering and finding them yet alone a good one is getting harder, so it is nice to be surprised by a good one. While testing some new spots in the 80’s a bit north this one popped to the surface with very little fight. I knew it was good but it had been a while since we had seen a 10kg + red so was not too sure but still very happy. But when we got the scales out it was more shock than anything. It went 15kg on my good tested set of scales (went 16 on the first set). If you told me last week that you got a 15kg red I would prob say they don’t get that big here. Boat record prior to this was 13kg. It was part of a cracker 4 days of fishing with one of our groups. Bagging out every day and the and the next day having a 1 anchor bag out of big Goldband in 40min. Also went 4/3/2 on blacks with the little bit of trolling we did in the 4 days, biggest we put as 300lb.

Jurien Skips
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2018-06-09 09:52Arrived with the old man yesterday and got a carton, some supplies and we were in the water by 2:30 with the mandatory pic for my brother who couldn't make it. With the swell pumping the outer reef we had no idea where to start looking so hit some drop offs just north of the lead line and anchored and burleyed up. As you can see in the pic they sell good burley up here.
Lots of undersize snapper and then something went a bit harder and the skippy had arrived and he had an awesome session even pulling out the bream rods for a bit of fun.
Remembering I had beer on board around dusk I took one sip and my floater was taken by something decent, I caught a glimpse of some big before it smoked me and I spent the next 10 minutes trying to pull a ray off the bottom but my PE2 rod was no match for it so I snapped off rather than snap my rod. Forearms are still burning
No snapper action by 6pm so we decided a pub meal was the go and dropped my homemade oxy pots and headed in.
