Express Dhufishing
Submitted by sonofdarryl on Sat, 2018-03-10 13:41With seabreeze predicting 13 knots and fishranger predicting 7kn offshore Perth eartly Thursday, I knew most seabreezers wouldnt be at boat ramp and there wouldnt be much of a line. I had just enough time to head out for a couple of quick drifts then head back. I thought it would be good to test out my new gopro clamp mount so I did a little bit of filming too. I was rigged up with Dhubite jigs in the western brown colour and the Dhubite dual assists (less stressful as theyre only $5 a pop at the mo).
Going over some of my ground on the way out didnt show much activity, so I gave them one drop each to be sure and continued on.
The next spot showed a couple of good specs so I gave it a quick jig. First drop produced a tasty blackbum and second drop a pesky sergeant baker who went straight back. Had a quick glance at the sounder and saw a decent singular bar directly under me. Dropped straight back down, hit bottom, held the jig upright just off bottom incase any predators heard the thud and were wandering over to investigate. Before any retrieving I got a decent strike. Being only the second time Ive fished this spot I hadnt noticed any lumps or caves here, just some small ledges so I played it safe and kept the drag resonably loose incase he was hooked in the gut. I wasnt too concerned with the fish taking line, until I realised he had just hugged up against a ledge and I could feel I was rubbing rock (easy to spot this part on the video - serenity now). The ocea 100lb fluro did me well and with a solid pull out he came. From there I kicked into second and didnt take anymore chances! Got him in with some very frayed leader, lucky this time.
On the way in I had a quick troll which produced a SBF tuna using the dhubite deep diver.
Finished by 9am, always a good way to spend the morning!
In case anyone was interested in the video:

More massive walks and epic fish
Submitted by Chris fish on Fri, 2018-03-09 11:15Did another mad dash to the south coast with a good mate just for the days fishing on Sunday. Arrive sat arvo and slept the night before getting up at first light and starting the walk. Went to a great sambo spot of ours and I picked one up 4th cast on my light gear which reefed the crap out of me on the 40lb gear. Persisted for a few more hours for nothing exciting then decided to walk further and explore up the coast further. Found an insane looking hole just absolutely littered with Bommies. This has groper written all over it. First cast for me and missed a big bite. Rebaited and second cast my crab got smashed. This fish tried its best to reef me but I got the upper hand and a lovely groper about 10kg came up. Josh’s turn and his first cast resulted in an absolute smoking. Second cast for him and he stayed connected and landed a great fish. We took turns for a bit more with him landing a tiny one, I pulled hooks on 2 more which one of them was massive. My crab got hit by something that felt like a car and I had my Stella 18k drag tightened all the way down with not another click to go and this fish pulled drag as it hit my bait before pulling hooks shortly after!! That was very large!!
after a mad hour fishing for groper we packed up and started the 2 hour walk back to the car then headed back to Perth.

Fish or swimming carnival
Submitted by Tom M on Fri, 2018-03-09 08:46Had to make a descision yesterday go watch my grandson Koby in his school swimming carnival or go fishing, no descision really was to watch Koby. My fishing buddy found a replacement Ron who managed to catch his first Dhuie and has a 90 cm fish at that. Koby won champion boy for his 2nd year so it was a win / win situation. Plenty more fish in the sea

Landbased Mako shark for Aron
Submitted by Chris fish on Wed, 2018-03-07 08:25My brother Aron has been hoping to tick off mako shark from his list of landbased captures for a fair while now and yesterday he had an insane day. He landed a 3.2m tiger shark then later that day a monster mako off the rocks.
This is what he said about it.
“Smashing goals I thought was out of reach! Ended up selling the majority of my shark gear but kept 2 wire traces, well I put them to good use today! First two shark baits I’ve put out this year and managed my pb shark and also my first tiger shark around 3.2m, after getting the hook out and releasing that beast watching it swim off strong I didn’t think the day could get any better, after throwing in all the burley and fish scraps ready to go home we saw a mako cruise in so I quickly raced back tied up again and sent out another bait and within 5 minutes the mako was on it! after an epic battle that lasted over an hour we finally washed it up onto the rocks! most insane day off the rocks I’ve ever had with the others landing some awesome fish to.”
he landed the sharks on a Purglass B Extreme South African sliding rod, Avet LX Raptor spooled with 50lb Tasline backing to 24kg stern mono top shot. Massive achievement to get from the rocks!!

The Wifey is back
Submitted by brown364 on Tue, 2018-03-06 20:59After a couple of frothies friday night with the wife, bro inlaw and his girl, we were feeling sat morn wasnt going to suit for a run out at early hrs and a sleep in was in order.
Well when i awoke at 6:30 I was up and dragging them down the driveway promising the goods. Even my wife who hasnt been out for a loooong time (1.5 yr) due to recovery from lifes challenges and that she swims every sat morn said , Screw it, I'm coming. Well just as well she did!
On the water by 7:30 for a big steam to a 16mt mark i found during the cray run of 2017. We were anchored and throwing out the berley in no time and Caz was quick to bait up and send it down so she could out do the rest of us while i sorted gear and bait for the guest. It must have been the second drop when Caz loaded up with the first keeper of the morning at around the 670 mark. She was happier than a little pig in shit with herself, though no time to gloat as a line out was a line not catching!
Ten minutes of silence past with not much activity until I heard expletives flow from her mouth again and the new rod I grabbed for her a year ago was buckling over again with alolt more go in it this time. To our surprise a smaller 580 model appeared on the surface and her smile kept grew and the banter started as we were not even getting a touch on ours.
We sat out for another hr or so and picked up some skippy for the bro inlaw before calling it a day and heading in (not to mention some muppet forgot the esky) to avoid the heat of the day and clean the catch.
I would give up every catch from a fishing trip to see that chuffed look of happiness on her face! Not the look in the Pic as that was pain from teeth in fingers, well composed though!
Enjoy Peeps!

Monday’s catch
Submitted by Paul_86 on Mon, 2018-03-05 19:56Great day out on the water today a few hours north of Perth. Tried hard for a Mackie but it wasn’t to be. Got a nice constellation prize of a few nice SBT, wire traces didn’t scare them off at all.
Got a few good fish off the bottom too with a bag out of 2 baldies and 2 dhuies. My decky outfished me 10-1 today, but at least I caught the biggest fish haha.
Also just finished running in my new motor after my suzuki died on me end of last year. Stoked with the new Yamaha, does 50km/hr at WOT with the boat as loaded as it ever will be, and gave me an average of 2.6km/L for the day.
Cheers Paul

Sometimes second prize is ok!!
Submitted by IncognitOh on Sun, 2018-02-25 16:36Agree with Robpado in a seperate post " a few nice snapper around at the moment"
Went out this morning specifically targetting SBT as it seems I have lost my SBT mojo at the moment.
Dropped the second lure in this morning, doing a couple of knots, just getting started and bingo.....850mm pinky!
A PB pinky for me and it followed a 13kg PB dhubanger and a 45cm PB KG from a couple of weeks ago!
Our fishery is in great shape....although, I rate myself as a bit of an SBT guru I still dont know where the SBT are for 2018! Can't find them out wide and too much weed in close for my limited patience

Bag out
Submitted by Tom M on Fri, 2018-02-23 08:45Had to put in the hard work yesterday, well when you are retired not so much hard work as being patient, but landed our limit, 1 Dhu, couple of Black arse and a nice Baldy that we dined on last night, throw in a KG and sambo for some exercise and it was a nice day on the water. Good to see fisheries at the ramp (point peron) doing their checks, amazing to see people still getting caught out when checked.
