First Metro Mack
Submitted by aalfred on Tue, 2012-02-21 19:02Hey Crew,
I went out this morning with my brother and my friend. After I got them on there first sharks, I now wanted to get them and myself on the first metro mack. So I went to buy some lures yesterday, I bought one cheapy one medium and one better one. I set up the rods and started trolling about 6.15 this mornig.
The first hit was just 20 minutes in, after a lil fight a nice size tuna was landed On the cheapy!
Then we kept on trolling along 3 mile but there was lots of weed and we moved a bit deeper. With the weed problem solved we trolled in the 20 -25 meters up and down the coast. And I never had some many fish showing on my sounder. We came across some hughe schools of herring and sardines ( I guess ). And at 11.00am the next run came and after a litle longer fight my first metro mack was in the boat And again the cheapy!
My brother was over the moon and had an awesome trip! And next week he goes back to the trout fishing in Germany.......
After that we keept going for another hour or so but no more pick ups!
We were back at hillarys at 12.15 and had an awesome start to the day!!!!!
Thursday we will be out again!!!!
Cheers Seb

SW Week
Submitted by Lamby on Tue, 2012-02-21 18:24Had a few trips out last week, Poseidon decided to play ball with my work schedule & I was able to head out for some good fishing. First day out had two drifts over an old mark which produced a pinky & BA to the bait boy with a dhu banger on McArthy to me. Decided to head on my way to another mark to see what was happening & stumbled over a small patch loaded with joy which only got marked as a wind squall had us belting back in for cover & to pick up a feed of squid.
Got some phone pics to show what it produced & also some more stuck on the Canon EOS until I can get them off (tech issues) & update the page with the rest of it
Big cheers to Till whom captured these next two pics for me after I forgot the camera, unfortunately I had onboard a 'junior' decky who couldn't handle his brine & tossed his cookies right at the start but hung tough for a few drifts. Kind of screwed the plans of more dhu's, seriola jigging & getting in with the straight hook to evict a pesky bull dolly that's hanging around a certain location that the SW boys will know about.
Alas it wasn't to be however I am sure he should be back down soon to sort unfinished business

my first blacktip
Submitted by falttymatty on Mon, 2012-02-20 18:57Hi guys havnt posted anything for a while so thought id chuck this up.
went down to our beach spot the other week just to see what was happening see if any tailor were around and to try for some mulloway aswell.
Rocked up to our spot about 5pm was starting to get windy but the weed hadnt hit yet so we set out our lines.First cast mate catches a 35cm yellowfin whiting then next cast a 46cm tailor things were looking good already. In the end we got about 5-6 tailor around 35 to 46cm my mate lost a bigger model in the surf would have gone 70cm biggest weve seen in a while. Also a few fat herring aswell that got used for bait.
Was starting to get weedy and windy was thinking of heading of as it felt like i was getting sand blasted. But thought id throw out one last time put out some squid this time and went into the surf to cast halfway through casting i slip and fall in the surf but the line had already gone out.
So i had a ciggy then thought im not happy with that cast so went to go grab it and reset it.As i did it took a screming run straight out for a good minute then i managed to slow it down.headshake after headshake was calling it for a mulla took me 300m up the beach left right then right chased it down getting line back then after 30mins in the surf i see a fin and tail woah we got a shark boys i yell. ended up grabbing its tail my other mate grabbed the leader and snap just got it by a strand on 100lb mono.
measured upto 1.7 metres total and 640mm precaudal and weighed 26kg thought light for what it was really. Was one of the best sharks ive eaten and all gone bar one bag in the freezer and my mates loved it aswel.
Caught on a stradic 6000 with 40lb acudepth on my spectrum 12ft 8-10kg with 100lb blackmagic leader and 9/0 gomatskus.
here are some pics

First Metro Makie and he was a Horse! (PE-3)
Submitted by Hook_er on Sun, 2012-02-19 14:25I was taking the mrs for a romantic little trip to rotto, when i decided to throw a few hard bodies off the back. It was blowing too hard for a bottom bounce, so i thought i'd do the rightie and swing around West End on the way to Geordies. I hadn't had the X-rap in the water for ten minutes when my reel started screaming zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, my first thought was I'd hooked a craypot, then i noticed the rod was thrashing about wildly. I quickly put the boat in neutral and grabbed the rod holding on for dear life. The mrs was a good sport and reeled in all the other lines.
I can't remember how long it took to land because it all happened too fast, all I know is that he really didnt like being anywhere near the boat. Once again the mrs was a star and nailed him under wing with the gaff, he measured just shy of 160cm. I probably should have trolled over the same ground a few more times, but I was so stoked with just the one. I retired to Geordie's to fillet the beast and crank up the babyQ........giddy up!

Submitted by Jeffree on Sat, 2012-02-18 23:122m tiger caught landbased. Had another wicked fast run, but spat the hooks.
We had 2 Balloons out about 50m apart from each other and about 300m out, and there was a XXXL Fin circling one balloon at a time, then did some aerials, and thrashed around for a bit and effed off.

Great morning on the mighty Swan !
Submitted by wadetolley on Mon, 2012-02-13 16:36Launched at 0830 and threw the crab nets around the Raffles area. Went out with a work mate, in his new boat.. a 4.85m Surtee. They are very nice boats, and handle very well.
Took us 3 hours to get 5 size crabs.. in between popping over to the Lucky Shag, for a flat white and toastie..got to love that river fishing. Caught most of them at the top of the tide. Good luck !

Two Days In jurien
Submitted by Luke R on Mon, 2012-02-13 15:40Hey all
Well we had our second Tackle HQ Jigging Tutorial day on Friday the 10th, The weather was looking very good for the thursday so I decided to go up a day early and have a bit of a fish with Whitey. Fishing was great the thrusday with over 20 Dhu Bangers coming over the side, there was only three of us jigging and 6 bait fishing, the jigs outfished bait yet again. I managed to FINALLY nail a dhuie over 10kg pretty much straight away in the morning, it pulled the scales to 15kg and put up a great fight.
The jigging tutorial day was a bit slower then the day before with the fishing really shutdown. It wasn't qauntity but its was ll about the Quality of the fish!! Nearly all of the fish that came over the side were of decent size. Whitey lost a HUGE fish that he was fighting for a good 5mins before it brought him into the reef. Quite a few of the blokes had never caught a fish on a jig before, the most memorable capture was Craigs 12kg dhuie that nailed his Flashing haoli, he was soo stoked to land and extremely lucky because the hook pulled when the fish was 5mts under the water, thanks to whitey's quick thinking he repositioned the boat and I netted the fish thankfully.
Anyway here's a few pics from the 2 days.
If you are interested in coming along to one of our Tackle HQ Tutorial days send me an email.

A Night At 'Pedoz'
Submitted by reddo_crothers on Sun, 2012-02-12 21:17Hey guys,
This is my first post so i hope everything works :)
Anyway this is at a beach just north of Sunset Beach in Geraldton. It used to be a nude beach, but i can't really remember where the name 'Pedoz' came from, Its just what my mates and i call it. Its actually the first time i've ever fished this beach. I was using a 14ft Gladiator surf rod with a Penn 850ss reel, using pilchards and herring fillets for bait. We ended up getting 7 tailor, a small shovelnose, a few small mulloway (around 40-60cm) and what i think is a threadfin salmon (perhaps you can tell me for sure??) The two bigger tailor were 54 and 55cm and the others around 40cm.
It ended up being a pretty awesome night, i just hope the photos work :)
Cheers

Jurien spaniards 9/2/12
Submitted by Reefmonkey on Sat, 2012-02-11 00:47Opened up the mackerel account for the year, even though we had to travel out of Perth to get em. Got these two coming back from a dive. We were ten minutes into the troll in 12 meters and scored the first double hook up for the little tinny, great fun in a little boat crossed lines and all. The usual mackie fight, two really hard and long first runs then swam towards the boat and went ballistic again at the sight of the hull, we had them both on board about ten minutes into the fight. Pro's were dropping there pots all in close for crays, found only one nest chokkas with kakkas and managed to get the only two sized crays amongst them. Great weather with some weak westerlies blowing all day, warm water and great vis.

Last nights effort
Submitted by aalfred on Wed, 2012-02-08 08:40Hi Crew,
I havent been fishing in over 2 weeks, cuz last time I went a bloody spider bit me and I got a nasty infection.
Last weekend my brother and a good friend of mine arrived from Germany for his first down under holiday! My brother is a keen fisherman also and my aim was it to get him on his first shark. So that he finally could feel how it is when a fish takes line of you.
So we went out last night and I paddle out one big bait and one slide bait and one cast bait ( intended for ray so no steel trace). With all lines set the waiting and beer drinking starts! About an hour or so after dark the first run happens on the slide rod. I set the hooks and pass the rod to my brother. The fish does some nice short runs and my brother holds on to the rod, I think it took him about 2 seconds to be fully loaded with adrenalin. It was a bit of an effort for my brother cuz he is not used to overhead reels but after a few minutes his first shark ( a bronzi and it was approximately 1.3meter) was safely landed on the beach. We took some pics and then I released it.My brother was stoked!
Bout 20 minutes later the cast bait started running, my brother grabs the rod tightens the drag and ping gone. No steel trace on the rig so no chance. And this rod has braid on it so my brother got his first ever line burn when he touched the line
I rigged it up again and this time with steel. Bout another 20min later next run on the cast bait. This time its on for a lil while. After a few seconds the fish hits reef and of again. So out goes bait number 3 on the cast set up. Again another 20 min later next run. This time my friend managed to land the fish, a lil smaller bronzi but still nice, removed the hooks and released it. So now I had my brother on 1 fish and my friend. The next run was mine, this time on the slide. I got the fish on the beach and decided we keep this one for a feed as it was perfect eating size from about 1.1meter.
Then we waited another hour or so for a pick up on the big bait but nothing.
So we packed up and went home. All in all a awesome night with 3 fish landed and 5 hook ups and I think its a bit better then the trout pond fishing in Germay my brother is used too
Cheers Seb
