Private Boat Leasing/Rental
Submitted by nesbar12 on Wed, 2015-08-19 21:29Hey guys, thinking about a concept to connect skippers without boats with owners willing to lease their rig. Assuming insurances can be covered off, what are your thoughts regarding peer-to-peer leasing (Air B&B style) of your boat for a few extra $$$ to cover your fuel bill, boat rego, maintenance, etc? How many (good) days a year could your boat be made available to do this? What sort of $$$ would you want for leasing your boat? What reservations would you have?
How about those of you who have a skippers ticket but no boat - how likely would you be to rent a boat on a peer-to-peer basis? What sort of $$$ would you be prepared to fork out for a good day on the water in the boat of your choice?
Speaking for myself, I have an old 19' Guardian on trailer with a smokey 175 Johnson on the back - not pretty but great for a day's fishing off Two Rocks, out back of Garden Island, Rotto, or squidding off South Beach. I'd be happy to get $150 a day if someone wanted it.
Please let me know your thoughts.

Trailer brake lines
Submitted by Rob H on Sat, 2015-08-15 08:43 just out of curiousity, is there anyone on here who is in the brake industry who is able to make (or give me some info) on getting brake lines made up from a more corrosion resistant material than steel bundy lines?
I know you can buy SS braided but they are a bit blunt on the price.
Kodiak make a set that is available in the US for $100US but here $250-havent found a US seller with reasonable postage yet (many dont do international)

Nick Kyrgious what a tool
Submitted by petermac on Thu, 2015-08-13 19:18I hope Stan Wawrinka smashed Kyrgious's head in the locker room, his sledge at Stan just confirms what I have always thought, he is a total tool, Tennis Australia should drop all financial support for the idiot, don't forget boys and girls tennis australia gets a big chunk of money from the aussie tax payers money to develop the likes of that tool. he is an embarrassment to Australian sport

Snapped my Daiwa 3 piece blackjack
Submitted by Mungy86 on Thu, 2015-08-06 18:51$170 worth of rod snapped during whiting fishing in Geraldton just now, drove to bcf to catch late night shopping and they closed seconds before we got there. Not winning. Anyhow after all that was wondering what I should replace it with, going to be soft plastic and bait fishing for bream and other bread and butter species, it'll be paired with my nexave 2500 . Any ideas on decent rods?

Im looking for a 90HP 1998 Mercury Power Trim Tilt Cylinder rebuild kit - PN: 813432A3
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 2015-08-04 13:24Hi guys,
I have been without a boat for a while and have just got another one, with a 1998 90 HP 2 stroke mercury engine, and after the first trial run, noticed fluid leaking out of the top seal on the Trim Tilt cylinder.
I have been searching for this part for a few days now online, but seems there are only a few in the states, and the postage is ridiculous..
Does anyone know where I can get this kit, as suppliers are telling me it is superceeded with a full shock rod Kit at over $500...?
I could settle for just the front end seals, as it seems to only leak there, and i have stripped the cylinder, and there is no damage to the O rings or piston bore inside..
One more thing - does anyone know how to remove the bottom trim assembly pin if it is ceased onto the shaft, as the cotter is removed and the shaft only moves slightly left, until the piston bottom mount touches the left bracket, and the piston is ceased to the shaft on the bottom bush? I have ordered a bearing puller to try and put some pressure on the shaft to free up the bush, and dose it with inox every evening..?
I started by removing the bottom section to replace and check the waterpump, and have got the kit for this, and have noticed that there is a rubber seal in the kit that was not on the waterpump when I removed it, and looked at youtube to see if this needs to be fitted on the main shaft, and it is shown on all youtube videos of this model, but have the manual on the boat and this top waterpump seal, on the shaft above the waterpump casing, is not shown in the manual? to fit or not to fit?
Anyone have experience in this area? I think it was left off by mistake by the previous mechanic, as the reason I pulled the bottom end, was that too much water was flowing out of the casing joint, IMHO, and the tell tale was not blowing out faster on increased revs, so deduced water pump issue.. it would make sense that the water pressure was escaping through the casing, not getting forced through the motor, if this seal was left out at the last repair... there are so many models and info on these engines, it is hard to work out what information is for what engine.
Would appreciate any help or advice regarding this.
Cheers

Who Race cars/motorbikes , or raced them in the past, especially Rallying
Submitted by crasny1 on Thu, 2015-07-30 14:19Since my mate Michael Guest now basically crossed over to a fishing identity rather than Rallying just wondered how many other fisho's share adrenalin between the sports.
Used to organize Rally Australia and Co-drove in Rallies. Ahh the good old days.
BUT now have a financial reason to get better fishing gear. A race in tyres alone cost as much as a top Stella and top of the range rod combo!!!!
Just interested.

EDIT - Went new :) opinions sought. cars - new vs used
Submitted by randall df223 on Tue, 2015-07-28 18:31This is sort of fishing related because I need a replacement vehicle to tow my boat so I can go fishing.
I have a fixed budget. as close to, or less than $20k.
must be cheap to run.
must be capable of towing at least 2.25 t.
I can buy a new 4X2 tata xenon cab chassis ute with a tray and fitted tow bar for $21k, with a four year / 100k warranty. 2.2l diesel that uses about 7.4l / 100 kms (combined urban). for about the same I can get a 2014 badged 4x4 tata xenon.
today I saw a 2007 Nissan navara diesel 2.5l 4 x 4. it ticks all the boxes I need. my dilemma is it has 207k on the odometer. and that's a fact my wife isn't keen spending money on. The navara is listed at $16,990.
interested in people's opinions. and please don't suggest spending more money. It's not an option.

Big $$ on fishing gear
Submitted by Dale on Mon, 2015-07-27 20:21My last night for the time being on Groote. Went down to the jetty to see what was happening, the indigenous kids were fishing with hand lines and cheap Kmart rods and reels, I saw barramundi, jacks, fingermarks, skinnies (queenies) and a few others I couldn't identify hitting the boards regularly. I must bring a rod back here if I get to return.
