Deep Drop Rods
Submitted by mrwinta on Thu, 2013-01-31 11:51G'day fellas- I' after bit of advice / encoragement on rod selection for 'Deep Drop'. I am in the process of setting myself up with an electric outfit and I have the 80lb braid, I am settled on the Tanacom 1000 FE and I am fairly sold on the rod but I wanted a few oppinions first.... I was looking at the Daiwa Saltist G and the Tanacom rod both at about the same price but I am leaninhg towards the Tanacom rod as the bent butt is detachable... Any input is welcome...
Cheers....

Learning? Accept help if offered ..........
Submitted by alfred on Mon, 2013-01-28 22:22Was at Mindarie today and watch a guy make 16 attempts to come alongside. I had tried to help, after his 6th attempt and walked down to the jetty to guide him in twice but he got abusive at me, so I decided to walk back to my kids and just watch.
He came in really hot every time, didn't account for the wind, then went into full reverse to back out when he realized he wasn't getting anywhere near the jetty and tried again and again and again ................... the approach to the jetty looked like a surf zone.
11 boats were retrieved in the meantime and everyone was telling him to slow down and motor up wind, but he wanted to do it his way. He finally managed came along side when another boater grabbed the railing of the boat to prevent it from smashing the jetty. While this boater was hanging on to the boat the skipper was trying to reverse out and nearly pulled the guy off the jetty! Everyone was shouting for him to stop. He finally did then tied up right at the end of the jetty and went to get the trailer.
Took 8 attempts to get the trailer wet.
His deckie took the winch line to clip on the boat on. He started by unrolling all the line off the winch. Then he walked out and shouted "FU*K" dropped the winch line and ran up the jetty taking his now soaked mobile out of his pocket. Mean while the skipper is being pulled by the boat as the wind was pushing the boat across to the other jetty, after abit of swearing the deckie finally went back down picked up the winch line and clipped on the boat, then started to wind the boat back on but it took forever as he had pulled out all the winch line.
There was so much line out that it got snagged on the trailer and the boat had to be pushed off a couple more times before they realized that the winch line, which was webbing, was all twisted.
Now before anyone gives me crap for not helping, we, myself and about 6 other guys and gals that watched his various attempts to come alongside, tried to help, but he blew us all off. Don't know if it was because he didn't want to look like he needed help infront of the two bikini clad gals onboard.
I know we all have to start somewhere, but it's really ok to accept help when you are learning.

custom rod building
Submitted by chookc on Mon, 2013-01-28 15:47Hi guys,
Been thinking about building a rod for my daughter. My father made me one 30 plus years ago and I still use it today. be a cool thing for her to have.
My questions are:
Is there a shop or shops in perth that specialize in rod building gear threads blank guides etc? I know I can get the stuff online thru mudhole etc but I would also like to chew the ear of someone before with a million questions before I jump in and give it a go.
Also if you have built your own rods any tips/ tricks or things you would do differently.
I am looking to start of with a basic eastuary cspining combo for the daughter and then if all goes well will look at upgradeding my jigging rods from there...
thanks in advance for any advice tips etc. also feel free to add photos as well..

Mine connects but the ring just moves around. I am thinking its not fully connecting and something is stopping the plug going all the way into the unit. HELP!!!!!

Super Trawler is back.
Submitted by Seafarer 5.8 on Fri, 2013-01-25 16:13I have cut and pasted this from another forum as we need as much help as we can get. Please take the time to read and fill in the Objection to the AFMA. It is our waters and our Fish. "Surprise surprise the super trawler has found a loop hole". WE NEED TO ACT NOW BEFORE IT PICKS UP MOMENTUM. The legislation that recently passed through the senate prevents a super trawler of this size operating in Australian waters for 2 years until further research takes place. Well now the super trawler has applied for permission to act as a massive mother ship for smaller vessels. Therefore the massive quota that the owner of sea fish Tasmania influenced AFMA to get over the line still stands but the only difference is a large number of smaller trawlers will be used to reach that quota instead of one large one. The reason why these smaller boats are not actively fishing for them now is at $1 per kg it is not viable for them by the time they pay for fuel costs, etc. However if they can stay out at sea for long periods of time and have it unloaded and processed it then becomes profitable. Therefore if this gets passed by AFMA it would be no different and a bait schools and therefore our pelagic fishery will be wiped out. PLEASE TAKE 10 minutes of your time to send an email to AFMA to stop this from occurring. PLEASE DON'T HAVE THE MENTALITY THAT SOMEONE ELSE WILL DO IT. JUST 10 minutes !!! For further reading click on this link http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/...-super-freezer Or to send an objection to AFMA click on this link http://www.afma.gov.au/managing-our-.../#.UP8leqPZXJt

July Fishing Suggestions?
Submitted by Us3 on Fri, 2013-01-25 15:31Hi all,
Anyone got any suggestions for where to go for a week away in the July school holidays? Just got back from Walpole which was great (caught a stack of black bream in Nornalup - excellent!) so wanted to try somewhere different in the colder months.

dinghy mods
Submitted by scotto on Wed, 2013-01-23 12:53was thinking about pulling the middle bench seat of of my savage 4.2 wide body. my neighbor has the same boat, but without the middle seat, and it looks a much more practical layout.
its only riveted in, so it would just be a case of taking out the rivets, and fillling the holes, but im not sure how much strength or lateral support it provides to the sides of the hull, or overall structure.
does anyone know whether a savage kestrel with 3 seats, is the same build as one with 2 seats? or whether removing this seat will compromise the structural strength of this hull?

Xtreme seconds sale.
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Tue, 2013-01-22 21:08Hi all. Introducing you all to our first ever seconds sale. Every now and then we get a few boxes from the factory that do not come up to our standard for sale. We have now been in business for three years and to have our first seconds sale now is testimate to the factory and quality control. We have a few boxes for sale at a reduced price. The seconds coolers are equally as efficient as the A grade models. I am just not willing to sell them at the full price.
1. XT180litre marble. SOLDThis box has an indentation on the right front corner and is just not finished as well as it should be. The latches and seal are perfect and will do a great job for those who need a box that will fit some big Dhu's, harpuka. bass and blue eye. Bernie on Mahi Mahi 11 has two of these and uses them every day.
Seconds price is $200.00 for FW members save $130.00
2. XT120litre marble. SOLD this box is slightly discoloured compared to the signature marble colour. It is also a bit lighter.
Seconds price is $160.00 save $100.00
3. XT120litre marble. This cooler has not been finished perfectly. The front wall is slightly angled.
Seconds price is $160.00 save $100.00 Still available.
4. XT27litre Blue. SoldThis box has a faulty bung that drips. Everything else is perfect.
Seconds price is $50.00 save $35.00
5. XT70litre marble. SOLDThis box also has a faulty bung which drips. Everything else is perfect.
These small imperfections do not affect the cooling efficiency of the cooler.
If you are interested in any of the above seconds specials, simply PM or call Dave on 0403978583.
Email: xtremecoolers@live.com.au
First in gets priority. I will update the thread to advise what is still available.
All boxes can be picked up from Mt Lawley or South Perth.
Cheers

Get together
Submitted by Beerburper on Sat, 2013-01-19 22:12As a relative newbie to fishwrecked this may already happen i dont know but, Just thinking aloud here people, maybe admin should organise a get together one weekend where fishwrecked members can meet at a venue with a BBQ and brews?. Possibly with a cover charge, or a pre paid ticket system (to benefit a charity). Where we all go by user names maybe, if that's what people want, swap stories, sell gear, generally have fun. I say "a stranger is a friend you haven't met yet!".
Your thoughts on this would be great. What do ya think?
