Gnaraloo report

Just back from Gnaraloo and what a trip it was. Our best so far as we managed to get our 20kg per person fillet quota in five days. The trip in was on track was pretty crappy as the corrugations are shocking at the moment. Maaged to rattle a power steering connection loose on the column and lost all the fluid. Luckily just a retighten and fill up of fluid and we were up and running again. Was also peeved when arriving at our accomodation to find no light bulbs in any of the sockets , the toilet not working and no bloody hotplate on the barby. They like had a years notice of our arrival so pretty average. Anyway the important stuff. The weather was awesome for the five days we fished. My first drop resulted in a nice Red and we managed a couple of nice Rankins and a Spanglie to finish of the first day. The fishing just got better each day. With big Rankins , Reds, Spanglies, Estuary cods,Cobia And Mackies. Anyway enjoy the pics.First Red for the trip.Second day's bag.6kg Cobia on 8kg outfit (floating mulie)My double header.RankinsRedsPB Red for the trip 8kgAnother successful day's bagThe Hilton ala GnaralooJust launced for another big dayAlthough the colours had faded on this Cobia thought I'd post anyway as this was my first ever and at 9kg pretty awesome, it was caught on a trolled blue Xrap. That Xrap is now my fav lure as it caught heaps of other fish on the trip.13kg SpaniardCan someone ID this one?Thought I'd thow this pic on as the colours are pretty good.We only really fished in the 40's only once venturing out to 60m and catching a Cobia. One morning just out of the bay we drove over some promising ground and with one quick drop had two nice Estuary Cod on board. Thanks to the guys who helped with ideas and waypoints etc you know who you are and it's appreciated.Forgot to mention there are even clowns up there. Trolling out of the bay one morning we had a group of 4 boats run over our lures and cut one off. They didn't stop to appologise so I bailed them up at the filleting table that night. The response "We didn't mean it" Mine "Well stay the f#$K away from us then.Dickheads. Next year's trip ia already being planned ;)

Night time out wide

Well after months of sorting out the boat after it was stolen "Nigel" is back on the water!

I have taken  him out a couple times now to put some hours on him which have resulted in some epic local mackie action and some decent baldies from the bottom...nothing that gets me horny though.

Well after a carefull 10 minutes planning my deckie and i decided to try out wide at night time. he was at mine last night at 11.30pm and by 2.15am i was drowning baits some 40km off lanclin.

Poor old deckie never got a bait in and called it a night in the sleeping bag just as the drift anchor went out.

Well the first drift resulted in a 12.7kg dhue and the next in an 11kg friend.

45 minutes later a had landed 6 dhues (smallest would have been 5kg) lost a cracker pinky then got sharked. Loosing that rig and a good for f^&k all deckie it was an easy decision to head home and try my luck with the Mrs.

Wind kicked a bit which made for a slow ride in but boat cleaned fish fillited and in bed just after 7am. quick 5 with the mrs rounded off an awesome adventure.

Dhuies BEWARE! Im back!

Defensive game tactics

Ross Lyons your jugment day has come.

organising / storing fishing tackle

like alot of guys ive got a shitload of fishing gear, a recent tidy up made me realise just how much  thats not even a quarter of it!

i

been thinking of ways to store it so as  to have it organised so if your heading out on a days fishing you can just go through quickly and make a day bag to take with you for your intended days fishing plus a few bits n pieces for unexpected action...i found these tool boxes on ebay fairly cheap, reckon they would be ideal for keeping your gear clean n tidy as well as organised at home. whatya think and how do you have your gear stored at home???

14 metres high, and 110m long Wave!

Sorry, not fishing related but i know alot of you guys like to follow my photography getaways and thought i would share my lates "Box ticked off" location to photograph for more stock photos to sell. Well i had enough of the stress of Perth City and jumped in my car and made the 400klm treck to the world famous wave rock. What a location. As soon as i got there i noticed a few massive problems i was faced with. People every where! Shadows, tree's right up the the wave, no room for a panorama . I even struggles with my 17-55. With i still had the 10-22. I did the best i could then decided to treck to the rock in pitch dark. Pretty eerie in the bush against the rock. but a experience i wount forget. Starts were out and it was a still night. Took some great shots while popping the flash during the 30sec exposure. Took some time settin up the focus in the dark. kimberley live aboard

A mate of mine just told me how he recently booked a trip worth 25 grand for $1500.....

The advertising agency stuffed up the ad which was supposed to say $1500 off the normal $25,000 price instead it said $1500 per person... hahaha GOLD!!!!

Apparently the mob has offered quite a bit of money to him to sell them back the tickets and have put restrictions on when he can use the holiday (one set of dates in september) but hes refused to sell them back the ticket and is doing whatever it takes to be able to use the ticket when they have said.

I guess since the advertising agency stuffed up theyll have to cop the cost - not the tour operator :-)

I think its awesome, only spewing i didnt know about the typo before they removed the advert!

Sad day

Well the ReLisa has been sold to a fishwrecked member. Bit sad after all the adventures we have had, but the new boat will open new doors, with the Abrolhos island first on the list. and some deep water trips on the cards. Will look forward to seeing pics of her on the forum still catching fish I hope.

Good diesel Mechanic

Can anyone reccomend a good diesel mechanic?  I've just bought a '95 2.8TD rodeo and think I may have been shafted - the thing is chewing through oil.  It starts ok and power is ok, though smokes heavily when pulling away from standstill or starting up.

I may have one possible place to take it (and i don't mean the scrap yard!!!) though just wanted to find out other options if that falls through.  I'm SOR.  I want someone to check it out, do a compression test etc and estimate what I'd be up for to sort it out.  eg new rings, dodgy turbo seals, valve steam seals/guides, dodgy air intake gasket etc etc. I'll then make a call whether to do the work or take the hit and sell it with known issues.

Cheers

Matt

Air show

Anyone get out to the airshow yesterday or today? I thought it might make up for the shit fishing this morning, well it sort of did....watching the b-52 roar overhead and seeing the Hornets doing fancy stuff sort of made up for been stuck on the bloody grass for over three hours trying to get back out towards Neaves Road. Bloody shambles that was. An hour and a half getting in, two hours wandering around towing a six year old and a three year old who kept asking to go home (to their credit they didn't chuck wobblies), static lines just to try and buy a cold drink and then three hours moving a meter here and a meter there jostling with other irate motorists getting out, before finally ditching the queue we were in and then heading out back towards another entrance that had finally cleared after dark. Dunno if it was shit traffic management or whether the roads couldn't handle so many cars but it was very average.

Still, not every day you get to get up close to such machinery and walk through the maintenance sheds. The tool racks they had their would make any mechanic jizz uncontrollably.

Eagles rule, On top of the afl world.

To all those west coast knockers who had their sook about the eagles getting flogged last week, SUCK IT.

bimini top

hey guys just wondering i found i new cheap bimini for $99 cause they want to get rid of it, only thing is it is only to go to 1.3m wide, does anyone know if i could make it to fit 1.5 if ti can it would save me around $100.

Hope this wasnt someones pride and joy!!

Doh... was all I could think of today about 3 mins from Point peron ramp... could only get this pic(for some reason my deckie thought he was gonna get in trouble by the boys in blue if he took one from closer) Looked like someones cut ol' mate off and he t-boned them... Boat bent the front on the trailer and then jumped off.. how devastating...

But how good was todays weather out on the water!!!! managed a nice feed of whiting for the BBQ tonight

Apologies for the B&H advert

Bobcat Required!

Just thought I would ask the fishwreck community before going to my local rag.

Are there any bobcat owner/operators out there willing to remove a few cubes of dirt from my front yard in preparation for the boat hardstand?

or are there any recomendations?

I'm in Aubin Grove SOR.

valkoista

thanks whitey, brett and fellow fw's for giving me another one of many excuses not to spend a day with my loving wife and wonderful children. every minute on that boat honey, i was thinking of you. yes we bagged out. big swells good variety of fish and good company. note to other users, bring good filleting knives, stone and bags. preferably stay the night after the trip as opposed to driving home after a big day on the water so as not to be a statistic on our roads this year.

Where to go to have a rod surf rod repaired??

Hey guys anyone recomend a decent place to have a eye replaced on my surf rod. I live in the metro area. Cheers

Too Lovely

Well worth waiting for, to watch the Eagles go down to the Bombers.

It was all right for them to be classed as favourites for the flag when they beat teams on the bottom of the table but now they have to come up against real competition from now on.

I don't hate them , just adore any team that beats them, same goes for the red and white team in the South West league that has Hands oval as its home.

Stopping smoking with hypnosis?

Hi, just wondering if anyone on the site has used this method for quitting and if it worked for them, want to give up but finding it bloody hard, just wondering if it helps.   Cheers,    Paul.

Tragic story of a Blue Whale

Heartbreaking images of Blue Whale struck dead by ship as it slept

  • Body of majestic blue whale found floating on surface of Indian Ocean off southern tip of Sri Lanka

  • Experts want to highlight blue whales' plight in a bid to reduce ship strikes

These heartbreaking images show the body of a majestic blue whale fatally injured as it slept in a busy shipping lane.

It was spotted floating near the surface of the Indian Ocean off the southern tip of Sri Lanka.

A gaping wound shows the horrific point of impact with the bow of the ship - leaving the gentle giant's tail fin in tatters.

BLUE WHALES: THE LARGEST ANIMAL TO HAVE EVER LIVED

At 200 tonnes, the blue whale is the largest animal on Earth and the largest animals to have ever lived, they dwarf even the largest of the dinosaurs.

Living in the the open ocean, they are found usually found along the continental shelf edges and near polar ice.

A single calf is produced every two to three years, and from birth each calf consumes up to 50 gallons of milk every single day and in its first year of life, a calf gains 90 kilograms per day.

A blue whale's blood vessels are wide enough for a human to swim through.

Its scientific name is Balaenoptera musculus.

Marine experts believe the blue whale – an endangered species with as few as 5,000 left in the wild - had been struck by a container vessel.

The moving pictures were captured by diver Tony Wu, who wanted to highlight the blue whale’s desperate plight in a bid to reduce devastating ship strikes.

He said: 'The whale was collateral damage.  The animal looked like it had been struck by a ship during the night as it rested at the ocean surface.

Unofficial figures show thousands of whales – many critically endangered species – have been killed by container ships.

'The only statement that can be made is that ship strikes are a serious problem, and the number of whales killed by ships is far higher than most people probably understand.'

Snorkling in exxy opinions

We took a day trip into exxy this time up in Coral Bay. went snorkling in both Oyster stacks and for the first time Torquoise Bay.

IMO oyster stacks was far better with lots more to see. Also for those with kids i feel they would see a whole lot more without having to go into the deeper water.

What are your views on these 2 locations

Darts in exxy

Got a pic of a few of these guys as we were about to exit the water. only about 2 foot deep and they were everywhere
